This game feels like a massive "safety" over-compensation after misreading the room with character and story writing in BL3. There's a lot I could say about the game itself or the circumstances surrounding it, but I'll stick the biggest let down. I really agree with commentary highlighting the poor character writing and simple story. Gearbox has resorted to writing characters with well worn ruts and limited risk. There's little variety in personality archetypes and humor is bland and safe while trying to rely on sexual innuendos and crude humor. Its boring. At one point, Amon, who I play as, literally says "I get it, you had sexual relations" in response to the asinine banter at one point and it felt painfully self-aware yet clearly trying to further sell/excuse the over-used humor. Also, what is so damn sinful about including 'simple' 'rational' characters, especially male ones? Nearly all the males are soppy sniveling narcissists who are obnoxious for no reason other than "THIS IS BORDERLANDS NORMALITY DOES NOT EXIST". Roland, Axton, Mordecai, and Wainwright Jakob are examples who had their humor quirks, but carried some semblance of "wow this is FUBAR" and made it easier to connect with the world happening around them. In BL4, I found I could only feel some relatability or empathy for a very small selection of characters, mostly female/other, who didn't feel the need to scream dumb jokes about caring more for their hair while facing slaughter and extinction. Zadra's personality (the female Order scientist) embodied my mood towards the characters of BL4: cold, exhausted-from-your-bs, and distantly empathetic. Truly, I am not attempting to insert political commentary here; my point is that it was hard to feel any connection with the story and characters because the writing tried to rely on absurdity-humor/commentary to carry the mundane plot. BL 1 & 2 did well because they used such characters with temperance and paced their 'camera' time well. Also, while I agree with many reviews celebrating the gunplay as this games saving grace, I'm still frustrated by many of the minor decisions in how guns function. Examples: Why do Maliwan snipers almost always come with burst fire OR torgue sticky jet bullets? Both ruin the point of sniping. Why do COV magazines wait to BEGIN their cooling down for the same time as reloading would take? COV mags are an instant sell for me. Sure, combat was fun and paced super well, but after the initial novelty of learning BL4's weapon selection and spawning patterns, I found my self struggling to enjoy anything beyond a limited selection of weapon patterns that would spawn. To the games credit, that limited selection I like is really satisfying and one of the few things keeping me going. I'm just disappointed overall. I'm going to finish the game, but it will be hard to want to play past the credits.

Of the 12 markets with a position on both sides, 5 climbed and 3 fell. The same sale, the same day, opposite directions — which is why nothing here is averaged into a single arrow, and why one sale is not a trend.

One market had a chart position on both sides of this cut. One sale in one country is an anecdote — read it next to the store-wide figures below.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 41.86/day in the week to Jul 31 → 47.29/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Where to start... I mean i legit do not know what to say about the game. 3 was a HUGE miss in the borderlands franchise and this follows suit. Its a continuation to a game that was bad and did not feel like a borderlands game. I want to like it but it just feel, for lack of better words 'meh' Its not as fun. The dialogue is 100% FORGETTABLE. Nothing captures the interest or magic of what was Borderlands. Characters, forgettable as well. I finished the first part of the game and i could not tell you at ALL what the story is, or whats happening or why im doing what im doing. The into from Marcus even felt short and non descriptive at all. The most fun thing about the game, i kid you not is the gliding and climbing. That shoud tell you everything about the game. As far as performance, its absolute dog doo doo. The developers took the lazy way out to rely on DLSS and frame gen to run "smooth." Even with my 5080, it runs HORRIBLE. Only bought the game because it was discounted otherwise i would have not of bought it. The Vault Hunters skill trees seem so cluttered and almost feel completely useless. Even when you allocate points to the appropriate trees, a psycho will 1 shot you....... this is on easy BTW. It feels like a game of catch up instead of a fun shoot em up loot game. As a fan and owner of all Borderlands titles, i do NOT recommend this game at all. IF you want to dip your feet in the world of Borderlands...... I cant even recommend it for that. Really disappointed in the direction Borderlands has taken. It doesnt matter. Fans have voiced their opinions LOUDLY regarding the game. Randy, however thinks he knows whats best and its clear the games, since the Pre Sequel, have been designed to his like and not what the consumers have wanted. BL3 was a flop. Tiny Tina was a flop. This is a FLOP. Take the hint Randy.
Edit: Added a few clarifying statements about the loot drops. To start off, I love the borderlands franchise. In Borderlands 1,2, and 3, the writing was done with care. Boss fights felt rewarding. Vaults left you feeling like you could take on the next stage of the world. The final boss gave you a small fountain of golds. Characters made sense. This review is a disappointment to write. I dont typically write negative reviews unless it was really sad. "Borderlands" 4 visually looks like the Borderlands art style. It sounds like Borderlands. Its even named Borderlands. But this is not Borderlands. Its got some good things. Skill trees and guns feel good. Playing with your friends is smoothly done. Stuff like that. But it feels empty and hollow underneath. Warning: Minor spoilers below. 1) Unrewarding gameplay and careless story writing You are not a vault hunter. You are a lackey for the local militia who calls you a vault hunter. Claptrap is around just long enough to make it feel Borderlands-like and then he mostly fades to black except for the occasional comment. Same with Moxxxi, who barely makes it into the game near the end. There is a siren NPC in the campaign, who has a metal arm. The siren says the powers they have cant be used because their arms were injured (or something of that nature, you get the idea). Alright Siren, that's not the lore, but if you say so. The siren later says that the powers come not from the arms, but from within. Run that by me again? You cant have both. The siren later has their metal prosthetic broken and screams in pain... holding their metal prosthetic that is somehow in pain and supposedly has nothing to do with the siren's agility and ability to fight. This is just an example of the laughable and careless story writing. Characters would come back and I would have to remember who that character was, instead of being excited. Other reviews cover that topic in more detail. They are very weak and unmemorable, except for the few that were memorable because they were so laughable. 2) Unrewarding loot and fights. Boss fights were a joke. I played on the max level difficulty and had to check multiple times to see if I was indeed playing on the hardest difficulty. Many were dead by the time I finished asking "Is this really a boss fight?". I've never seen a boss HP bar drop faster than in B4. Some of them were literally alive maaayybe 15 seconds. On the hardest mode. Gold drops are equally as unrewarding and are far more rare than the other three games. You might get a gold weap every 10 or 20 times killing said boss. Vaults were very dry by comparison to previous games as well and left me wishing I had done something else to level up. You are not a vault hunter and the vaults are not the prize, and this is a slap in the face reminder of that. Dungeons (I can not remember what they are called but that is what they are) felt like a waste of time and yielded a "thats all?" (the loot for that fight) even late into the game. Vaults and Dungeons are a waste of your time. The final boss was one of the few halfway decent fights, and left me wondering where the small fountain of gold weapons were. By the end of any other borderlands, my inventory would have been loaded with golds. By the time I finished the story in "Borderlands" 4, while i had some golds, only 2 or three were usable for my level. I kept hoping for better rewards near the end. They never came. In summary, Borderlands 4 smells like Borderlands just long enough to pull you in. As the game goes on, it leaves you wanting for more of everything if you are expecting a borderlands game (and why would you not be due to its title), and not in a good way. Combine that with careless writing, unrewarding fights, loot on the floor that you take one look at and realize its not worth your time... Oh and also, this is the worst optimized game I have ever seen. I regret prepurchasing. I regret purchasing. I regret playing. I actually bought a DLC and I will not be playing it. Save your money. Go play the other borderlands again.
The performance was dire when I played and also. Just look at the first 3s of the first preview. Everything looks WAY too refined for a BL game. Where's the messy handstrokes, the linework that's just a little off. Where's the texture. Honestly it feels, and looks like an ubisoft game. Which isn't really a compliment. For a BL game I want that rugged style, the guns with mouths the guns that can nuke you if you mess up. That's the game I played for hundreds of hours. This is like getting a piece from picasso and making it modern. An absolute disappointment of what could've been my new favourite game or even game of the year. A real SHAME.

Despite what many folks are saying, I don't think this game is a joke. I think this game is a punchline. I just don't know what the joke is. And I don't think anyone else does either. Even the devs.
A really decent and fun shooter stuck in a game that's still marred by a bunch of performance issues almost a year after Its launch. Despite some nitpicks I have with the open world It's my second favorite BL after 2, maybe even tied in some ways for me. Unfortunately it seems Randy would rather release DLC that costs half as much as the base game before even fixing it to not run like dog water. Even if It's on sale I would recommend you wait until Its fixed for sure, if by some miracle that ever happens. Then I'll give it a thumbs up.
I was so profoundly disappointed by this game after hearing some good revies and eventually bringing myself to give it a shot. I was a fan of the early Borderlands games, but this has nothing that they had. Playing it, I got the impression that nobody who was developing this game had an idea they were excited about. - The writing feels like a bad AI parody, soulless, meaningless, chasing its own tail and inflating its own ego. It cannot make a decision about what it wants its story or characters to be and then stick to that decision. - I found zero likable or even interesting characters. - I had zero feeling about the main villain except the expectation that he would represent that there was no plot or story development. - There were factions of enemies with different types, different groups, different abilities, and I still felt like I ran down the list almost immediately and ran into nothing new for the rest of the game. I don't know how much of this is due to the art and how much is due to the combat. - Absolutely none of the skins looked interesting, which doesn't matter because you still spend most of your time seeing none of the character. - I couldn't crouch and shoot because the character's knee blocked my view. This should never have gotten past beta. - The menus feel like someone spent tremendous effort to make them easy in exactly the wrong way. You can sent items to your vault from the item menu, but most of the time, when you get a gun, you can equip it but can't compare it to what you have equipped. - Getting to the echo logs you pick up is incredibly tedious. About half of them don't play automatically and aren't identified in a way that lets you find them in your inventory, and when you do find them, you can't play them while you play the game. You have to stay in the menu. This is lunacy. - I've completed the game and I have absolutely no clue what these icons on the left of the main menu are for. They seem to be a leveling up system for my gun and a class mod, but there's zero explanation of how to change or get rid of them. These pertain to items I think I picked up in the first hour of the game. I'm not going to look it up. I'm not going to do the game tutorial's work. - The skills feel pointless and are poorly explained. At no point did I feel like maxing out a skill would affect how I played the character. I still have no idea whether I need to invest a point into a skill to benefit from a class mod's bonus. - Class mods show an icon of one of SO MANY DIFFERENT SKILLS but don't tell you what the skill is called or where to find it in your skill tree beyond "one of these three paths." You have to just equip it over the one you already have (which will take a while to find in your inventory again) to see the effects or go hunting the icons on your skill tree by nicknames you give them. - Every gun looks the same. You can't tell at a glance what is a shotgun and what is a pistol. - The new different-brand gun mechanics are largely a variation on "it takes longer to do damage." - There are three types of guns: Worthless guns, guns that have a shot of being worth equipping (purple only), and the guns that trivialize every battle. - The plane clipping was astonishingly bad. It doesn't matter how clear a line of sight you have to your target, your bullet still might be blocked by a boulder to your right. - Invisible walls. You knew this was coming when they gave you a double-jump and glide mechanic. Some visibly climbable things just want to punish you for even trying. - And come on. This is a cel-shaded game. It's supposed to run on just about anything, and look cheap, cartoony, and fun. This game feels heavy with contrary design decision that work against that. Nothing that added to the game justifies putting it out of the technological reach of people who want the game. And somehow, that isn't the worst. The worst is that they're still doing that horrifying thing with missions where after you drop something off, your next step in the quest is locked behind minutes upon minutes of poorly-written dialogue. You know you're going to be sent to point X on the map, but you're going to stay right there and listen to every word until they give you the go-ahead to leave. This has been a problem since the Pre-Sequel. My blood boils as my time is wasted. If I'm good at the game and I love the game and I remember the game, don't hold me up from playing the game, make me stand and listen, and call it gameplay.
