Bloody Heaven 2: Prologue is a free-to-play action roguelike developed and published by ShaneGame. Designed as an introductory chapter to the broader Bloody Heaven 2 experience, it throws players into a dark fantasy conflict centered on a warrior serving as an agent of Heaven. The journey leads downward from the divine realm into territories controlled by demons, with the ultimate objective tied to confronting Thanatos deep within hell. It is a familiar setup for an action-focused fantasy game, but the straightforward premise works well because the real emphasis is placed on combat, character building, repeated runs, and experimentation rather than elaborate storytelling. The core gameplay follows the recognizable structure of a top-down roguelike action game. Players move through hostile areas, defeat groups of enemies, collect rewards, improve their current setup, and attempt to survive increasingly dangerous encounters. Combat revolves around four fundamental actions: light attacks, heavy attacks, skills, and dodging. This relatively simple control structure makes the game easy to understand at first, but the customization systems gradually add considerably more complexity. Instead of overwhelming players with numerous commands, Bloody Heaven 2: Prologue builds depth around how those basic actions can be modified and combined. The Rune Frame system is the feature that gives the game its strongest individual identity. Runes can be placed into weapon slots associated with different combat actions, allowing players to change the behavior and effectiveness of their attacks. With six rune series and more than 50 rune types described for the game, there is considerable room for experimentation. The location and combination of runes can influence how a build functions, turning equipment management into something more involved than simply choosing whichever item has better statistics. Discovering an interesting rune can encourage players to reconsider their entire setup, while successful combinations can noticeably change the rhythm of a run. Weapon and class variety further supports this experimentation. The game advertises more than three classes alongside 12 weapon types, creating opportunities to pursue different approaches rather than relying on one universal combat strategy. A build might emphasize frequent light attacks and mobility, while another can concentrate on powerful heavy attacks or skill effects. This variety is especially important for a roguelike because repetition is unavoidable. The appeal comes from having enough variables that consecutive attempts do not feel completely identical, and the Rune Frame concept gives Bloody Heaven 2: Prologue a respectable foundation for accomplishing that. Progression also includes a meaningful relationship between temporary power and permanent development. Demons can drop gems during runs, and these resources are connected to the process of improving weapons and their rune configurations. When the player returns to Heaven, collected gems can be transformed into dust that contributes toward permanent upgrades. As a result, failure does not necessarily mean that an entire attempt was wasted. Even an unsuccessful journey can provide resources that make future attempts more manageable, establishing the gradual sense of advancement that is essential to keeping repeated runs satisfying. Death nevertheless carries consequences. A particularly notable mechanic involves losing the currently equipped weapon and its installed runes after dying. This creates tension because a powerful build represents something the player can actually lose rather than an arrangement that automatically returns on the next attempt. The possibility of recovering lost equipment during a later run softens the punishment and introduces another objective. Instead of treating death purely as a reset, the game can turn a previous failure into motivation for the next expedition. It is a clever idea that makes equipment feel more valuable while maintaining the risk-and-reward nature of the genre. Visually and thematically, the game commits to an appropriately grim supernatural atmosphere. Heaven, demons, frozen hellish environments, divine revenge, and monstrous enemies provide a dramatic backdrop for its fast-paced combat. The top-down 3D presentation keeps the battlefield readable while giving attacks and enemy encounters enough visual presence to make combat energetic. Its aesthetic may not completely separate it from the large number of modern dark fantasy roguelikes, but it complements the aggressive gameplay effectively. The contrast between divine imagery and the increasingly hostile descent into demonic territory also gives the adventure a clear thematic direction. There are areas where the Prologue status becomes noticeable. Balance is not always completely even across the many possible rune combinations, and some configurations naturally feel more effective than others. General polish can also vary, particularly in areas such as interface presentation, localization, combat feedback, and occasional technical roughness. The basic fighting system is enjoyable, but additional refinement could make impacts feel more consistently satisfying and improve the transition between experimentation, equipment management, and actual combat. These weaknesses do not destroy the underlying concept, although they prevent the Prologue from feeling as polished as the strongest games in this crowded genre. Another limitation is simply that this is an introductory release rather than the complete adventure. Bloody Heaven 2: Prologue was created around the opening chapter of a larger experience, so players should expect a demonstration of the main ideas rather than the full extent of the planned content. In that context, its relatively focused scope is understandable. More importantly, the free-to-play nature of the Prologue makes it easy to evaluate the combat and Rune Frame mechanics without financial commitment. It functions effectively as an extended sample of the developer's ambitions. What ultimately makes Bloody Heaven 2: Prologue interesting is the amount of customization built around an accessible combat foundation. Light attacks, heavy attacks, skills, and dodging are immediately understandable, while runes, weapons, classes, permanent improvements, equipment loss, and recovery mechanics gradually provide additional layers. The result is a game that can initially appear straightforward but becomes more engaging once players begin deliberately constructing builds rather than simply accepting whatever upgrades appear. Bloody Heaven 2: Prologue is therefore a promising, if imperfect, introduction to ShaneGame's larger action roguelike project. Its Rune Frame system provides enough flexibility to encourage experimentation, while weapon loss and persistent progression give individual runs meaningful consequences. Greater polish, balancing, and refinement would strengthen the experience, but the core ideas are entertaining and sufficiently distinctive to justify giving the game a try. For players who enjoy top-down action, dark fantasy settings, repeated progression, and creating increasingly powerful combinations from randomized resources, the Prologue offers an enjoyable glimpse of what Bloody Heaven 2 is designed to become.
