About

Attention Operator,
You have been selected to oversee a critical mission. Our team of elite soldiers is set to descend into a newly discovered abyss, believed to lead to uncharted territories beneath the earth. Your role is to monitor the soldiers' progress, ensuring their safety and collecting data.

As they venture deeper, remain vigilant and provide guidance based on their transmissions. You will have access to a status monitor, a radar, a radio to scan various frequencies, and other equipment to assist in your mission.
Be aware that communication may become sporadic as they descend. Strange anomalies have already been detected, and the nature of the abyss remains unknown.

Prepare for the unexpected and maintain operational readiness at all times. Prepare to face the unimaginable.
End of message.

enjoyed it a lot. do not pet the goat.
In my humble opinion, beign scared is about the road, not the destination -while not having a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ clue where you are going. "Below, Rusted Gods", takes on the challenge of creating fear through minimalistic gameplay, with interesting uses of well known mechanics. The game delivers good scares for everyone, and sustains an oppresive atmosphere all throughout the few hours it may take to complete. Lights and shadows, sounds and silence, all elements contribute to build tension. It left me unnerved and feeling guilty, but wishing for more.

"No, officer, I've never heard of Mikhail, nor do I know how he met his tragic and ultimately unavoidable demise."
Solid game, great sound and set design. It doesn't rely on jumpscares but forces you to face the horror directly. The weakest part is the plot but the story was great. The best kind of horror is the type that utilizes your imagination. I got the same vibe as "Stories Untold" but horror. Also it crashed my friend's computer when I was streaming, so they also got a good scare from it.
Unique and genuinely spooky horror game for a very fair price with a cool ass eldritch plot. There were a few confusing moments where I struggled to understand what I was supposed to do to progress, but other than that I really enjoyed my time with the game. Looking forward to replaying this in october, trying to get a different ending, or reading more about the lore. Played it only on my Steam Deck at native resolution with a mostly locked 45 fps during regular gameplay with a few drops below 30 when stuff was happening.
The story seems so typical in the first few minutes, and things gradually gel into a really compelling nightmare. Gameplay reminds me of Killer Frequency, another game in which the player guides NPCs with advice over radio. Doesn't rely on jump scares, and has a lot of set pieces I found to be very original and a lot of fun. Definitely worth the price of admission.
On paper, this game was made for me. I loved the aesthetic, the VHS vibes, the concept of sending a team to explore some buried, ancient temple, with a sleeping god, etc. Unfortunately, the expectation didn't really line up to the reality. Firstly, the pacing is kind of off. You go from knowing nothing about anything to sending your team of 1 dimensional characters into Satan's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I would have appreciated a slower experience, more character setup to get you involved, ect. As is, I didn't feel much attachment to the team names you send to die for your shadowy, unexplained Old One worshipers
(if that's what's going on, I don't know)
Secondly, there is 4 endings to the game, but they all kind of suck save for the big bad one that I won't mention. Having played the game for just over 2 hours, I really have to reason to replay the game to get the other endings, which is unfortunate. The lore isn't front heavy, and it does that thing where you find VHS message logs that add virtually nothing except that they're "Spooky." Lastly, and I'll include spoilers for this one because I don't want to ruin the experience some people, but
The big bad demon looks goofy as hell. It's just a big skull-face fetus with long ass arms that are barely posable. It's ruined in some of the promotional material, so it's not even a big surprise when you see it. At one point, it's got angel wings or something, which make it look even worse. Seriously, the design sucks. It's like, on par with some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ blender short. Sorry guys, but that's just how it is.
TLDR: I really wanted to like this one, and I was really looking forward to playing it, but it just couldn't live up to the hype. The multiple endings aren't worth replaying it, and it's just long enough that you won't be able to get a refund if you're disappointed by the ending.
