About
Palo Pori is a beautiful and peaceful village of artisans and tastemakers. Beyond the village’s protective wall, darkness has begun to stir. Ravenous monsters have claimed the land and threaten to sink their teeth into this final morsel of hope and happiness.
Play as Panko, a young, talented chef, helping to run the local eatery. When Panko’s teacher goes missing, a mysterious visitor arrives with warnings of the dangers beyond the wall. It's up to Panko to step up and take over the restaurant and tend to the ingredients and patrons. But that’s not all, Panko also finds himself serving the Caretakers, brave adventurers, sent to save the world. In this adventure, preserving peace starts in the kitchen!

In Palo Pori, fresh is best! Gather ingredients and resources, care for animals and grow your own fruit and veg to build up your very own cozy town to table restaurant. Forage for wild herbs and unlock new seeds to grow to expand your meals.

Chop, flip, and sizzle your way through mouthwatering mini-games as you whip up delightful dishes for the townsfolk. Good food is always better with company, so work hard to improve your cooking and experiment with ingredients, to keep your patrons happy.
Tailor your restaurant to the tastes of your community, develop new meals, progress your know how through a skill tree and adjust the decor to increase your restaurant’s appeal.

You’ll also need to feed the hungry Caretakers; these brave denizens of the land will venture out into the wilds to fight the ravenous monsters threatening the peace of Palo Pori. Each Caretaker hails from their own flavour region, affecting their own tastes and preferences: some like it bitter, some like it sweet and some are just looking to fulfil their craving of the day! Craft thoughtful meals and balance the flavour profiles to boost their spirits, sharpen their skills, and unlock new abilities. Because let’s face it… Who can save the world on an empty stomach?

Now it’s time to put your meal to the test! This is where taste meets tactics. The dishes you serve will build your Caretaker’s deck – each ingredient unlocking a card. And once they’ve eaten, they’ll venture into the wilds to fight the monsters. Upon their return, they’ll recount their journey and play out their battles through a charming puppet theatre sequence. They might even bring you back some MONSTEROUS ingredients from their ventures. Fight the monsters in turn-based deck building combat, inspired by traditional trick-taking card games. Outplay the monsters, by matching their flavour magic or neutralising it with a balancing card. Add an enhancing card to power up your moves! Your magic can turn the tables!
Utilize the unique effects of your ingredients to put your enemies to sleep, blow away their cards, and more, but watch out, you’re not the only one with special abilities. If you’re not paying attention, you might get burned.
In this food-based fantasy adventure, it’s time to give peas a chance! - Are you ready to get cooking?
Unlock the magic in food.

Beastro is a mix of cooking, light farming/restaurant management, mini-games and turnbased battles with cards structured like a roguelite. The mix might sound odd but it comes well together to create something unique. There are 3 different biomes, you can send one of the 3 venture caretakers to do the roguelite part. They each have their own cards and passives to distinguish them from the rest. What you feed them determines how strong they will get for the next run and you can make them permanently stronger when you give them what they ask for (there are 5 friendship levels). The economy is built around having more money, ingredients and dishes that is gradually unlocked the further you are in the game. The story is also a focus with multiple characters involved and this determines when you can move on to the next biome. The village acts as your hub where you take care of the restaurant/farm, pick/buy ingredients, do fishing, buy upgrades/ingredients/cosmetics and talk with NPC. The game is very neutral for a 'furry game'. I didn't get any creepy vibes, it looks like a kid friendly game, similar to the older Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games. The graphics can look gorgeous at times with so many colours, effects and things popping. The music is a highlight with many strong tunes. The gameplay loop works and it's pretty addictive. It's just the perfect amount of gradually offering you more options in many different ways and yet not overwhelming the player. The achievements were generally well thought out and not stressful. You're basically asked to try out your options, see all the monsters/ingredients and do a couple of actions. Its flaws are minor to the overall experience but they should still be mentioned. For starters, we should have gotten the helper to gather ingredients for you sooner. It came too late and the way it works is a little confusing too. It was a bit annoying finding all the spicy enemies as it relies on RNG. I played the game longer and kept repeating a certain biome to find Langoferno for the achievement. The next one might be too much of an ask but the story did lose some impact with the lack of voice acting. I wouldn't have minded the lack of if there weren't so many characters who often had something to say. And lastly, the mini-games seem to be weirdly balanced. Some are fun while others can be very challenging to get the higher scores with the timers you have. It feels like that part wasn't tested fully. I wasn't planning on getting the game soon. 20 euros is not a price I easily pay to be there day one, but the game had an interesting deal, it was possible to get it for 10 euros day one on steam. I was still hesitant because I wasn't in a rush to play the game but I still went ahead with it and I'm happy to say that it was worth it. Not only that, it's also worth the 20 euros now that I've fully completed it. The game is polished and ambitious while offering something different, it knows what it wants to be and it has a strong vision. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an interesting overall package that isn't very complex (don't expect a deep card game for instance). It's a good cozy game with more involved gameplay and mechanics compared to your average cozy game. It took me less than 20 hours to complete the game and get all the achievements.

overall good, the world, characters, art, and creature designs are all charming, but the gameplay loop can get pretty repetitive, but i thought the deckbuilder & roguelite aspect was fun and interesting the dialogue and story were a bit flat, i think it could've benefitted from being longer and fleshing out the characters more
This game's cozy vibes left me in such smiling from ear to ear. The characters are lovely and the Ventures are surprisingly fun. And this is coming from someone who's not a fan of deck-builders. Highly recommend if you need a chill game to play in your off times.
I don’t normally write reviews, but I felt it was important to share how much I enjoyed this game. Initially, I picked it up as I thought the art style was nice, and I was looking for a more cozy game to play. I was blown away by how much I liked it, so much so that I decided that I wanted to get all the achievements in the game, which is something I seldom do, especially if I find getting them tedious. It combined some of my favorite things, rougelites and card games, through a very unique system of combining ingredients in an inventory-style puzzle to assemble your decks while balancing out the flavors for more particular caretakers as well as the regions you will be exploring. Having a bit of Stardew Valley vibe as you tend to your crops, caring for the animals, fishing, collecting all sorts of things around town, and upgrading your equipment before transitioning into a restaurant phase. I do wish it provided a little more information on certain recipes, and that the cooking mini-games were more advanced, as they felt random at times. It would also have been fun to include some of the new versions of cooking mini-games used when learning to work with new ingredients. It is still super engaging, and I was enjoying cooking and putting meals together so much that I put off completing the game for a decent amount of time. I even just enjoyed running around town gathering items, really taking my time to explore every nook and cranny, which could be easily done as the cycles of the day do not change unless you transition into them, making it feel like you can take your time without stressing. Overall, I really enjoyed Beastro and would highly recommend it to those interested in a game of this nature.
Beastro is a beautiful (if somewhat short) three-in-one game: One is a simple life-sim in which you talk to people, and do some basic farming and caring for animals. Two is a collection of cooking-themed minigames. And three is like a deckbuilding roguelite. The deck for the last part depends mostly on what you feed the adventurer when they visit your restaurant. What you can cook and feed them depends on the ingredients you gather both in the life-sim part and the adventuring part, so these are all interconnected. Each part is pretty well-done and there's a good enough connection that it feels like they all belong together. It took me 15 hours to finish the campaign. Long enough to make it feel worth the price to me, and short enough that some of the more repetitive parts didn't get to feel annoying. I'd wish for some kind of endless-mode though, or some more variance in the campaign. As of now it sadly feels like a one-and-done kind of game for me. With the campaign finished it's over, and I don't really feel enough of a pull to start over again.
Beastro is a very lovely cooking game mixed in with a deck-building rougelike that somehow just works and comes together into a lovely game. I especially love all the character designs, world building, and art this game has to offer. While cozy most times, I also appreciate the stakes and drama and friendship that comes along your journey. Highly recommended!
