Reviews
Some games just beckon to the player: "Wait for a dark and stormy night. Brew some hot chocolate and wrap up in a warm blanket, then boot up this JRPG and lose track of the time for the rest of the weekend." This is one of them. While the core gameplay loop is simple and repetitive, Battle Chasers: Nightwar maintains its cozy and welcoming old school sensibilities from start to finish. As this adventure is chock full of secrets and side activities to complete, the obsessive completionists among us will find much to indulge themselves in here. Prospective buyers must love repetitive JRPG combat, which is the core of the game and most of what you'll be doing aside from running around the landscape with your analog controller. Nothing precisely new or innovative is accomplished here, but the journey through endgame and NG+ is enjoyable and rewarding, and the graphics and characters are fun and engaging. I'm glad I gave this one an honest shot. It won me over with its atmosphere and dedication to self-paced fun.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I saw Battle Chasers : Nightwar on a list of games to play and the name intrigued me. Checked the Steam Store to see what the game was about, and what I found was a really cool-looking Turn-Based Rpg. I like Turn-Based Rpgs ! So I decided to give it a shot, and I'm glad I did. Good looks always help, and this game might catch your eye like it caught mine. The technical side is just good, but the design is fantastic. After a quick search online, it turns out Battle Chasers is a series of comics, which explains why it looks so nice. But that's not all it has ! It's also a very good game, even if it doesn't stray too far from what other Rpgs offer. The world map, of a decent size, will be how you get to dungeons and other places of interest, while coming across loot and groups of monsters to fight. Once in a dungeon, or an "exploration area" as they put it, the camera changes and you can move your character freely without following the road. This lets you explore, avoid traps, find loot and ambush enemies (or get ambushed) and will constitute your dungeon gameplay. Surprisingly they're procedurally generated, but it actually works and encourages multiple excursions on higher difficulties, for more experience or better loot. There's a particularity to how mana is used in the game. Any action that doesn't use mana generates some, and you can use that "overcharge" in slightly different ways. Unfortunately, this mechanic is mainly used when you reach the mastery of a character's skill tree, which happens when you invest 100 points in one of the two trees available. Problem is, at the end of my first playthrough and with my characters at max level, they had access to 80 points... Now if you're as good at maths as I am, you can see that 80 is less than 100. It could be by design, to save mastery for New Game + after you've spent some time farming, but I doubt it. As the one fancy mechanic of the game, I would have liked to use it earlier, as it can change the way you use your characters. There are 6 of them, but you can only play 3 at the same time. Good news is, they're all viable and different, and experimenting with the new skills they learn by levelling up is fun. They all have clear strengths and weaknesses you will have to understand to progress, as the game is not necessarily easy. You can play it risky and level up faster at the risk of dying (but not losing much), or safer at the risk of having to grind a little, up to you ! Regardless of the way you play, there's a good 30 hours of gameplay before you see the end of the game, and even more if you start to dabble in the side activities such as optional bosses called Hunts, side quests, a bestiary and a "fishiary" to fill, treasure maps, an arena, or the quest for each character's ultimate weapon... There's a lot ! And that's before talking about New Game +, which even if you take the time to prepare for it, will turn the difficulty up significantly. You will only keep your skills, perks and knowledge of the game for a different, but worthwhile experience. Some people found the game and its animations too slow, but I didn't. And, well, Turn-Based games are not usually the fastest-paced games around anyway... I do, however, think a few things would have benefited from a little tweaking. As mentioned previously, mastery of the skill trees is one of them. Another one would be the grind required at some points in the story, and lastly the potions, that are completely useless apart from the revival one. A medium healing potion restoring 100 Hp when my character has 12000 of those ? Go home, potion, you're useless. Fortunately, those don't really impact the quality of the game, and I had a great time until the very end. Actually, that's pretty much all I played these last two weeks and now that I have beaten the game, I'm already starting to miss it. For anyone who enjoys Turn-Based Rpgs, Battle Chasers : Nightwar is a safe pick, and an 8.
While Battle Chasers: Nightwar has its merits, it ultimately feels like a shallow imitation of better games, offering nothing new. If you're looking for a dungeon crawler, this game can fill that void, but prepare yourself for a grind-heavy experience that may become monotonous. With a somewhat strong start, the game boasts stunning-looking environments and character models. The characters are enjoyable to explore with and the art direction is commendable, however, the game falls short in several areas. The occasional long load times detract from the experience, and the pacing becomes tedious in under a dozen hours. The need for excessive grinding and lack of balance makes the game feel like a chore rather than an enjoyable adventure. Furthermore, despite being pleasing to the eye and rather intricate, the dungeons ultimately lack personality and fail to offer an immersive environment. Despite its potential and excellent art direction, Battle Chasers: Nightwar fails to deliver a truly captivating experience, making it difficult to recommend.
Game was in my backlog since 2020. Forgot it was in my library. Tried it on a whim on Friday, 14 hours played by Sunday. Guess I'm hooked. Nice turn based RPG with JRPG mechanics and original art based on an Image comic book I haven't read, but heard good things about. Probably will try to find an anthology of the comic book, because the story and the characters in the game are interesting. Not a perfect game and it does not reinvent anything, but good enough to give it an 8/10 rating as of 14hrs of gameplay. Will update review once I finish the game. Just hope it won't take 6 years to have the time to finish it though!
Very lacking in all areas.

Short review after completing the game (missing only 2 very ginding achievements): a turnbased rpg based on the Battle Chasers comics delivering great art, combat and dungeons while lacking in the story department. Pros: - Very beautiful art style for environments, world map and dungeons, very impressive for and indie studio and probably the main attraction of the game - Great soundtrack for battles, dungeons and great sound design for multiple actions like opening doors, chests and hitting stuff - Nice looking world map reminiscent of a fantasy treasure map - Great desing of monsters and bosses (also good animations for them, they are not static like other indie RPGs) - Competent itemization (good amount of weapons, armor, potions and trinkets) and crafting/enhancing system (able to craft all types of gear and potions and also enhancing weapons and armor) - Dungeons are the main bread of this game (8 unique dungeons beautiful in their design with their unique monsters, boss and puzzle mechanics with a small touch of roguelite randomization) - Great turn based combat system with its own perks, mana is rare, however normal attacks/actions (each character has 4 unique normal attacks and even more skills) generate a special overcharge which can be used instead of mana. Normal attacks/actions are instant cast while each skill has a different speed of cast depended on their strength making all actions viable even at endgame - A cast of 6 characters relatively unique to each other in terms of play style each having 2 massive skill trees to invest in and 3 ultimates per character - Decent fishing system with great rewards to break up the monotony of combat Cons: - Main criticism you will find of this game is that its grindy. This applies to getting stuff to craft everything and to get steam and ingame achievements. While the steam achievements are just for decorations the ingame ones are not, as they permanently increase multiple stats of your party, and as they are so many of them the boost is massive and are a requirement as the game can be hard (this means multiple runs of same dungeons to kill/find stuff and some of the achievements require RNG events to happen and if you are unlucky you will loose a lot of time replaying) - The main story is very lackluster in combination with barely any sidequests and character development it only serves to move you from one dungeon to the next one - A lot of monsters appear as reskins in later areas (this is very noticeable for slimes, bats, bandits and spiders) - Some bugs are present as you can get stuck in some puzzles in dungeons, or in the fishing menu if you press to quickly and before each combat start there is a slight delay If you can show some patience regarding the grind and weak main story this game is pretty good, its beautiful art style and great combat makes this a solid indie turn based RPG worth a buy.
Slightly above average generic RPG So there are positives here: The game's got a nice perks mechanic. Every main character plays different than the other. You can choose the difficulty of the dungeon you're going. Has a very nice aesthetic. Innovates on little things from RPGs. So the cons... when the game is generic, is SUPER GENERIC, when it is not trying too much it's not trying at all. You can get to a grind block even if you play the story and fight every enemy, game uses % which make a single level the difference between dying in a dungeon and breezing through it. The story seemed like something new, but has a pitiful twist with a cliff hanger and mostly feels -again- generic. The combat felt good, but it's only the variety of stages that keeps you going, since the enemies after stage 3 will be recycled and repurposed. Voice acting varies from great to trash. When you find the best comp you won't use the others in any circumstance. The world is way too small. Lots of questions, especially the first one in the story, is not answered and completely forgotten. I could recommend this but the studio made, mostly, the same game with the League of Legends IP, that game has more bugs but has a better fighting mechanic, every character can be used, and I don't think the studio will come back to this IP after that.
It's just a mediocre game, with cool ideas and great characters, but I rather play something fun and interesting.
