Backlog Game: 7 I'm by no means a professional review writer, but, I have decided to write reviews on the games that I have finished from my backlog. Understand that reviews are subjective and experiences may differ from person to person. I may not have liked a game everyone else liked, or disliked a game everyone else disliked. I have not necessarily done everything there was/is to do in the game as I'm only playing games as a hobby. Keep that it mind as you read on. Art/Graphics - 9/10 The art of this game is amazing. I love it. I love the almost painterly style of it all. There were many times I found myself just stopping to look at the surrounding area. From the thickets of a jungle, to the almost fort like structure. I thought the art was amazing Sound - 9/10 The sounds in this game were very nice. The weapons sound pretty cool, the hammer being my favorite. The narrator was incredible for the game. Narrating on a lot of little things you do, and overall sort of telling the story as you are walking around on the way to an objective. Soundtrack - 9/10 Absolutely beautiful soundtrack, very much a vagabond kinda feel to the whole soundtrack. Which makes sense given the overall theme of the game. Story - 9/10 You play as 'the kid'. You are a guard on the 'wall', you wake up on the wall with ♥♥♥♥ hitting the fan. This being referred to as the 'calamity'. A voice in the sky tells you that you need to get to the bastion in order to try to fix the damage the calamity has done. Gameplay - 8/10 The gameplay was pretty good, the camera isn't quite top down, but more offset to the sit. Similar to an isometric game. Though for me, the aiming could get kind of awkward at times, and sometimes it can get kind of confusing where the edge of the level is. Yes there is a big black void on the level edge, but sometimes you walk somewhere you think you can and fall of, and sometimes the other way around. Nothing too extreme, just something I ran into as a problem. Overall - 9/10 I really enjoyed my time with this game, the story kept me interested throughout the whole thing. I would recommend at full price.

Throwback gold. Early Supergiant Games. So good.
Recomendado.
At first game looks very confusing and it was hard to understand what was actually going on, however after couple of levels and with great storytelling everything becomes very interesting. I actually enojoyed wondering around upgrading weapons, getting a new skills and other additional stuff. For those who wish to unlock all the achievements after the game ends you have possiblity to start from beggining with all the skills and bonuses included. Although old game is still very playable today and I would recommand it if it is on discount.
GREAT soundtrack not just the songs but the score as well!
Bastion doesn’t feel like a studio’s first game, it feels like the moment a great studio announced itself. Years before Hades made Supergiant Games a global name, you can already see the foundation here. Starting with the reactive narration is still one of the most striking storytelling devices in gaming, commenting on your actions in real time and making the world feel alive in a way few games manage. Coming to this after loving Hades and Hades II, it’s honestly incredible to spot so much familiar DNA, the tight, responsive combat, the wide range of weapons that completely change how you play, and a world that feels hand crafted down to the smallest detail. Bastion may be simpler, but the soul of Supergiant is already fully formed. More than anything, it proves that their later success wasn’t luck, it was inevitable. Bastion is an essential play for anyone who enjoyed Hades, both as a fantastic game on its own and as a glimpse into where one of indie gaming’s greatest studios began. And if this was step one, it makes diving into their subsequent releases Transistor and Pyre feel less like catching up and more like exploring a legacy. For any Supergiant fan, Bastion isn’t optional, it’s archaeological. It shows a studio that didn’t grow into greatness so much as reveal it, piece by piece. If this was their beginning, then their dominance was inevitable. An indie developer yes, but one that entered the stage already carrying the weight and confidence of a juggernaut.

One of the greatest games I have ever played. I have been gaming for 30+ years, and out of the hundreds and hundreds of games I've beaten, this is near the top of the list of my all-time favorite. I near-100%ed this game during a time where I never bothered to even care about the achievements (I'm tempted to go back and get the last one just thinking about this game—at the time, I didn't really like achievements that required you to play the game again like the Score Attack Mode one). Its isometric action RPG gameplay is amazing beginning to end. It is truly a masterpiece of gaming, as the story, audio, visuals, and gameplay all come together to create something so beautiful and wonderful that it sticks with me to this day. The Positives: -This took the "Are video games art?" question and didn't just say, "Yes!"—it said, "HELL, YEAH!!!" From the narrator who adapts to what you do in the game to the graphics, art style, colors, beautiful voice acting, and gripping story, this is up there for me against the early Final Fantasy games, Zelda, and other classics in terms of emotional impact. -The gameplay worked well for me. It's balanced in terms of your abilities against the enemies you face. It's tough but fair—I beat the most punishing trials after a few tries, so it wasn't easy but wasn't impossible, either. The controls worked just fine for me (I'm seeing complaints in other reviews that I don't recall having when I played). It felt like you were the character and could do whatever you needed to do to win. If you lost, it was either your fault or an unpredictable enemy, both which are better than the controls sucking reason that some games have. -Everything is so amazing in this game that I can only explain it based on how I felt while playing: I was engrossed in the world, the story, the narration, and the next thing I could get or get to do. I couldn't wait to hear the next thing the narrator would say. I usually push through games to beat them and feel that accomplishment, but this game I pushed through to get to the next cool thing that would happen. When you're playing the game for the sake of the game, you know you've found a good one. The Negatives: -No doubt, it has its difficult parts. Replaying those trials is difficult and can get frustrating. I can't recall whether they were only required for achievements/accomplishment or if they required for game completion, so I can't remember if that's something people complaining about could just avoid, but no doubt it's punishing. -I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel here because I can't think of anything bad about the game, but it is aging and so there might be modern graphical or gameplay elements that you might miss here. I don't personally believe there's anything missing, as it's gorgeous and plays just fine to me, but I might as well mention it to be fair as to what other gamers might experience. Okay, I really give up trying to think of negatives. This game is amazing. If you like the Zelda 1 and 3-style combat upgraded in graphics with an isometric view and voice narration, this will be right up your alley. If you like games that are fun and artistic, this is phenomenal. The only reasons I can think of people not liking it are if they have any trouble with the game's performance or controls as it ages (seems to be the biggest complaint in the negative reviews), but I personally didn't experience any of that when I played. Enjoy this game—you can only experience it for the first time once. Treasure it. It is excellent. There are plenty of games over the years since this came out that married art style, controls, story, audio, etc. into one amazing package (e.g., Hollow Knight, Guacamelee), but this is one of the OGs of that type. Story-based games before it like Final Fantasy didn't have the graphical capabilities, and most other games were focused on shooting things, platforming, or other gaming elements. This brought it all together without compromise, and many a game after it with the same quality can say that this was an influential piece of gaming history that showed what games could be.
The hype is real. Over 10 years old and the gameplay is still as clean as any of the other titles coming out today. And even in an internet oversaturated with content, the story is just as memorable and sad as if I'd played it only yesterday. I don't know if everyone will like this game, but among the rare titles capable of achieving unanimous acclaim, I'd recommend placing Bastion among them.
