A good idea, poor execution. This game's problems lie in its narrative and its characters. They evoke no emotion, save irritation. No empathy, no sympathy, not even hatred. The main character is completely insensitive. They try to portray every female character as "strong," "stronger than the main character," and they do it so poorly that the game feels absurd. For 1695 America, there are too many people per square meter with a nontraditional sexual orientation. The dialogue is boring and often ridiculous. The enemy variety is very limited. The problem with this game is that it's designed for a "modern audience" that doesn't exist. Ultimately, you don't believe in this world (setting); it doesn't feel believable, and you don't empathize with the characters. I'd start this game and put it down for 3-4 hours, then force myself to play for 15 minutes, couldn't take it anymore, and put it down again for several hours.

A brilliant game with a unique atmosphere, setting and plot. Plenty of action but primarily story heavy, so if you're looking for a straight shoot-em-up, this ain't it. Content is as long or as short as you want it to be as the main story line is a decent length but relevant side quests are insanely abundant almost like they're mini-stories, not just "busy work" like some games. I'm not crazy about the steering landscape and would like a more open world, but that's always been a pet peeve of mine personally and this one is exceptionally so. I can't traverse ankle deep water, walk through light foliage or drop off a 3 inch ledge because of an invisible wall. Yet at the same time being in labyrinth-like mines seems severely lacking in directional hints and can get very frustrating. But given the rest of the game I can look past these and I would absolutely recommend this game and I will be replaying it and going for 100% completion.
