This is my first Axis Football. I wasn't going into this thing expecting the polish and graphics of Madden. I wanted to get away from EA, and now being a Linux user, can't even play their games now, anyway. When I saw the visual improvements between this and last year's version, I decided to give it a go. As launch neared I was actually pretty excited about it, and purchased it as soon as I got home from work on launch day (today). I know this is a 20 dollar game, but ... man this just feels cheap. I'm using a computer that can easily emulate games, and I'll be honest with you, the 2K series on the Dreamcast plays better than this (not talking about looks); a series that's a quarter of a century old. The controls feel floaty and off-putting. I never really feel like I genuinely have full control over my player. Pass deflection feels good, and throwing feels good. I'd say the passing game is the game's strength, and offers everything you'd expect. However, running and ESPECIALLY defense, I feel like it's on rails. I don't have the ability to control the player in a way that ever feels like the success or failure was earned. Breaking tackles feels random, making tackles feels random, and everything feels hollow. Nothing FEELS like a hit, it feels like people in the backyard with no pads on, playing football without trying to hurt anyone. I swear running vs not-running feels like the exact same speed to me. It feels very slow and clunky. Play selection works well. The menu system works just fine. However, there are bugs and I've only played for about an hour. I called a timeout, and when I came back from the pause menu I couldn't hike the ball. It forced me to wait the 30-odd seconds until I got a delay of game. Controls worked after that play, but screwed up my drive. I've had players circle around doing laps near receivers, like he couldn't figure out where he was supposed to be (also, making it clear how little control I have over my player...). Players run through each other like they don't exist nearly every play; even players that should be interacting with each other like receivers and defenders, or defensive players vs a QB who they're trying to sack. I literally had dozens of plays go in completely different ways than they should have simply because players ran through the other team's player. Again, reinforcing everything feeling scripted and out of my control, as if the game was basically saying "well, the play SHOULD look like this... unexpected player in the way of the play be damned". I won't get into graphics much; you've seen the trailer, you get what you get. It only plays at 1440p, it's sharp, but in an "I'm emulating an old game on really high end hardware" sort of sharp, as if the graphics don't really match the resolution you're playing at. Crowds are cardboard cut outs, the statium looks simple and blocky, lighting is VERY bright, but shadows are exceptionally weak. They need some contrast on the field, it looks like the players are floating. But again, I'd be ok with all of this, and frankly, EXPECTED all of this... if only it played well. If it looked primitive but played great, I'd have kept the game and left a glowing review. We don't need fancy graphics, advanced animations, and flashy crowd reaction shots to make a good football game. You can have knock off teams, a lack of deep modes, and for 20 bucks will be more than good enough to get people to switch from Madden. But it has to FEEL GOOD. And this really does not. I wish the team the best. I saw somewhere they're working on animations for Axis Football 2028. Maybe it'll be better then? But even with better animations, they need to get the weight of players right, and offer controls that make the gamer feel they have full control over the player on the field. At this point, in defense and running plays, it nearly feels like the computer gets to just interpret whatever I'm doing in whatever way it seems fit. And if I'm not really in full control, I'm not really playing a game; I'm watching it. I hope this helps anyone on the fence. If you're ok with my complaints, by all means give it a go. Worst you do is refund. It does work on Steam Machine beautifully with ZERO tweaks; so it has that in its corner, and I thank the devs for that. I really hope I can come back to the franchise when it doesn't feel like a mobile game or something as I feel they have the ingredients for something more. But it's just not with this release.

Not to be dramatic or anything, but I think this is the football game I've been hoping for my entire life. To provide some context: - I'm 62 years old. I had a Pong console and an Atari 2600. When I say "my entire life," it's been a minute. - I once worked as a programmer for a company that made sports games, including football. What I want in a football game is to be able to coach and develop the team. If I'm playing an FPS or something like Assassin's Creed, sure, give me a controller. For football, however, I don't want to skew the results with my twitch skills. I want the full-on strategic experience. So while Axis Football 2027 allows you to grab a controller and get involved, nothing about my review touches on that part. I jumped into franchise mode and I've been making trades, upgrading my infrastructure, and calling the plays. If you know anything about this game, you probably already know that the graphics aren't trying to compete with the bigger titles. The graphics are, however, in my opinion, sufficient to give one the feel of seeing the game they're coaching play out on the field. I watch it and I get excited (almost!) like I'm watching the Vols on a Saturday afternoon. I want a football game to be full of under-the-hood stats about players and probabilities. I want heavy rain to affect play styles. I want to make the best choices that I can for my team - on the field and off - and, realizing that there's some chance involved, know that the software gave me a fair shot based on my choices. Axis Football 2027 really seems to be a game that takes football seriously and focuses on making the numbers work.
Just one gamers opinion here. This is my first Axis Football game... I've seen it around for years but never tried it out till now. For a franchise that's been running for more than 10 years... I expected more. PS1 Football games from 30 years ago are designed better and more satisfying to play. The controls are glitchy. The animations are wonky. The players feel like they're gliding in the air. It's just not a very satisfying experience... and I'm not even comparing it to the current Madden games because I haven't played them since the 360 days. I can't possibly recommend this. $20 is too much... you can get Madden 2002 for $10 on Ebay which is light years ahead of this in every avenue. I really hate to be so harsh. It doesn't use a real roster... so why are we releasing this game every year? They're probably already working on Axis Football 2028... and are never going to finish fixing the problems they had in their previous game. They really should just stick to one Graphics System and Physics Engine and build upon that for the next 3-5 years. If they did that, this would be promising... but this franchise, I feel like; is in an endless loop of mediocrity that it really can't get itself out of unless it just focuses on one game. A good example of this is Strikers Club. It's a great soccer game that was released recently by an Indie team... as far as I know, there is no plan to release a Strikers Club every year. They just keep working on the game and it already is better than what a lot of the AAA studios are doing... and you can play online. Football games were never easy to do. Even in the 16bit era, it took about 40 people to develop Madden 94. You either need a big studio or TIME to develop it. That's what this game needs... but by then Axis Football 2028 will be out. I play very little of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e04J9YLs3ss&t=560s
Axis 27 is definitely my Madden alternative. It's the go-to simulation sandbox football game. Create teams, plays, leagues, fields - everything I want. The graphics also took a noticeable step up this year. Nice work with the grass and weather system. Overall, this is a fantastic game, and I'm glad to support the series.
This is the newest entry on the axis football franchise, and it is the best one yet! If you're looking for a game that gives you the deepest franchise mode on the market, team customization options that put Madden to shame, improved graphics, and serviceable gameplay, then axis football 27 is for you! Pros: -a new graphics engine -lighting was overhauled and looks good. -over the course of the game, lighting changes. If a game starts in the late afternoon & ends in the evening, you'll see the game start out in bright sunny weather before transitioning to night time by the end if the game -weather effects were overhauled, which was desperately needed -snow effects look way better -rain not only looks way better, but the amount of rain that comes down differs from game to game (and can be adjusted in play now) -player models are the same as last year, but they look better because of the new lighting and graphics engine -while not as good as other games, the graphics in Axis Football 2026 are easily the best in the series -new presentation -the UI of the menu was changed for the first time since 2020, and it looks great -player chatter was added to the game, mostly with pre-snap QB cadence and players screaming as they get tackled. -combined with the overhauled crowd noise & color commentary from axis football 26, this creates the most immersive axis football yet -new gameplay features -defensive AI was overhauled so that AI pass defense is not as helpless as it was in Axis Football 26 -gameplay sliders were introduced this year so that if the default AI skill and difficulty is not to your liking, you can adjust -a new tackling system was implemented into the game, one based on physics and momentum. New tackling animations were added as well. -new animations were added for ball carriers and receivers for diving over and rolling over defenders in the goal-line area. -when playing inside a dome stadium, all weather effects are disabled, which was not the case in previous games. -new team customization features -thanks to the new graphics engine, the field editor received an upgrade where you can change different parts of the field that you couldn't before -you can change the goal posts, the font and position of the yard-line numbers, the turf types, the colors of specific parts of the field, the sidelines, etc -the create-a-team, create-a-playbook, and create-a-play features return, giving axis football 27 a level of team customization that crushes madden 27's team customization options -new additions to franchise mode -a mock draft during the season that projects which players in the draft pool will go to which team in which round. -when scouting players, you can now view their college stats. -they added AI-generated team newspaper articles and league newspaper articles that cover team and league news. We're talking full-length paragraphs highlighting players, game previews, etc. Not even PS2 Madden games ever did that. CONS: -default player speed is slower than madden -setting the game speed to maximum in game settings makes the game speed more tolerable -the animations and physics need to be smoothed out more on tackles. -fair catches need to be added to the game -in-game instant replays are not present -adding these in future games will make the game's presentation feel more like a tv broadcast -no online play -no practice mode -still more work to do on adding more user control -the ability to create our own formations needs to be added to create-a-play -while graphically improved, the game's player models are still behind industry standards. That could change when new player models are rolled out in next year's game. Based on the standards I hold AAA games to, I give this game a 7.4 out of 10. Please support this small indie developer by purchasing this game and spreading the word about axis football to everyone you know.
I just spectated a game and, oh my, the graphics are 100% better than AF 2026. The player animation seems greatly improved too. I'll be tinkering away in this game's various customisation suites for many hours to come; uniforms, player stats, stadium layout, playbooks, plays, they're all waiting for my attention as I love these components of the game, but for those that want to get straight into things, one-off games or franchise playthroughs, everything is ready to go straight out of the gate. I played AF 2026 to death it was that good, and I've been counting down the days for this release. Thankfully it was worth the wait. This latest version seems twice as good - no exaggeration. Giving this a massive thumbs up.
Found my old copy of NCAA for PS3 a while ago and I remembered how many hours spent playing that game. Then Axis Football 2027 released. The stars aligned and I am now enjoying a good football game which is very customizable and full of features again from the comfort of my sofa. 10/10
Axis 2027 justifies its existence with stunning new graphics, an all-new addition in the field editor (SUPER dope by the way), and improvements/additions in Franchise, the on-field logic and animations, and even audio updates! Is it perfect? No. No game is. It has its bugs, but at least you know Danny Jugan (one of ... 3 developers? with no funding btw) will listen to your gripes and make efforts to better the game in the areas where it lacks. This game has no large price tag, no microtransactions, no pay-to-win, no gimmicks, no rigged AI that makes you feel like you have no control over the outcome, and no propaganda from dozens of paid streamers.. that being said -- promote this team! Our Madden alternatives are all dead or dying, and Axis is the only surviving one worth its salt! Above all else, Axis 2027 is a fun football experience, and a customizable one too. Buy the game, promote the game, heck I know there's a patreon for the devs too. I'll sign up.
Won my first game, so must be awesome! Also it's not made by EA so gets a double thumbs up.
I really wanted to like this game but I just can't. First, let's start with the positive. I was able to get the game up on running on my Steam Deck with absolutely no trouble. Unfortunately, that's where the positive end. On the Deck, the gameplay was so choppy that it was hard to even keep track of where the ball was, especially respond to it. After about 5 minutes, the strain on the eyes was just not worth it. On my PC, I couldn't even to see the gameplay. The UI was so buggy and unresponsive to the point where I actually could not click my way next into an actual game. Perhaps it's not all the controllers since the Deck worked, but my generic mouse and xbox controller that works on every other game that I have (and I have a lot of games), did not work on this game. I really wanted to like the game and have something to invest in that's not EA's Madden, but you took a page right out of their playbook: better graphics, more flash and worse gameplay. Unfortunately, that's something that I just can't overlook. I hope that next year things get tested before a full release, but as of now, I'm refunding this game and I'll have to give it a thumbs down.
