The gameplay is a bit clunky, but i don't see it as that much worse than Madden's. They just focus on making reliable gameplay instead of having animations dictate everything. The Franchise mode is very in depth though. You can build your team's philosophy to your liking more so than in Madden's Franchise mode. You get to dictate what practice strategies will be, you get to pick all of the coaches on the team from the wr coach to the defensive line coach, and finding gems late in the draft is less about random chance and more about finding players that will fit your system. It still has a ways to go, but the improvements from Axis 2018 to Axis 2019 are very significant and I can't wait to see everything they added in Axis 2020.
It is still... just. not. done. it doesn't work correctly. I wish they had released it at an actual complete state but even a year later the game is just infuriating and just not fun. I'm trying to play football, this is not football at all. Try out Gridiron it's awesome! Its's completely different, you play as one position on a team of about 7 other real people and you just play a game and it tracks your career stats and ♥♥♥♥. Free too!

Looking to satisfy your mild football fix for less than madden $$$?? Buy this. Looking for a seamless game with excellent graphics, accurate animations, and wicked smart AI? Look elsewhere. I'm happy with this buy because it's definitely cheaper than Madden, I'm not feeding EA's grubby hands, and I get to have some level of football strategy with playcalling. The AI is buggy sometimes and I definitely can tell it's a game instead of a simulator. Still, sometimes I just want to see how I would be calling plays and this satisfies me for that.
broken. needs removed from steam. do not buy
Very enjoyable as an alternative to Madden. Obviously, this game does not have the same polish or resources as Madden, but it nonetheless offers some interesting game play and team building.
It is a great game with its franchise mod and mods
Fun game.
very poopy
This is a fun upgrade from 2018, definitely worth the money. I put in a ton of time with the 2018 version and it was refreshing to start this year's version and see that the computer is tougher - the opposing WRs don't drop so many wide-open passes and the computer controlled teams seem to show no mercy if they get a lead. The only suggestion I would make is to bring back Hollywood Sports! :) Update - I have never seen a game have so much difficulty with gamepads. You can literally play the game for a couple days, changing nothing about your gamepad setting and then come back and see that it won't accept input from the gamepad any longer. (Well, it will take a button to get off the splash screen, but anything AFTER that doesn't work.) So frustrating, so completely frustrating. It's still a good game, but Christ do I have a million other things to do than chase gamepad issues with this franchise every month.
surprisingly fun
