I'm actually enjoying playing this game, but I'm realizing you need to ramp up your stats before you actually get to enjoy it, so it's a bit of a slow start scenario. But the overall vibe is nice. I like the crafting system, since I'm big into that, but I've just starting gathering some of the more basic resources. I decided to give it about 3 days (15 hours total) and see where it goes. To be honest, you can tell it's early access with some minor animation glitches and whatnot, but that'll probably get fixed as more people play the game. Overall, worth giving a try and playing for 10-20 hours to see if it's your thing.
Review Written on Sunday, May 15th, 2016
Review
My review will take into account that this game is in ALPHA and therefore there are still lots of bugs to be dealt with and a lot of game features to be added. The good news is that if you are the sort of person that likes to make suggestions and see them implemented then this is a good game to choose. The developer is very approachable and adds regular updates of users suggestions to the game on a weekly basis. I wont lie to you. There are a lot of bugs and at the moment and there is not much to do apart from building objects, Terraforming and exploring the infinite world. The terraforming element to the game is interesting and has promise but I believe it is not yet stable in its current state and you will often find yourself stuck underground. The terraforming tool is a big colourful cube which appears in front of you and can be moved upwards and downwards and closer or farther away. It digs into the ground and you can form tunnels which go downwards as far as you like. When the tool is perfected I can see this being a great way of building tunnels and passageways underground. Currently I found the tool difficult to use accurately and that is something the devs will need to improve on to really make this game stand out. The building elements to the game are quite good as they stand and you can easily build structures to your heart's content. The game does include combat and magical spell elements but these are in early development and at the moment any creatures you encounter are easy targets. You can create your own worlds and name them and create passwords for your friends to join. I can see this game being a really good game in the future, it just depends whether you want to jump on board and ride the journey with them. Be warned that in this state you will be joining the fun right at the start and I imagine there's a long way to go so don't expect a finished game yet. In conclusion, I cant really recommend the game in its current form but it is in an ALPHA state so that is to be expected. Can I see promise in the game? Yes I can, and therefore I would recommend it to anyone who likes to get involved and make suggestions that if worthy will be implemented quickly. I guess this is why Steam releases games in ALPHA states so that users can mould the game and help develop it. I have seen first hand that my suggestions and my friends ideas were included in updates within the week so if this excites you then I would say go for it! Neat fantasy setting and the world editing tools are really cool. Exploring the 4 biomes of the endless procedural worlds is a nice time sink as well. Looking forward to being able to create a town once more content is in place. It has bugs but meh, what Alpha game doesn't.
Early access to early grave, don't buy it...
After playing Astral Terra, I decided have really enjoyed this game and it'd be nice to see more people enjoying it too. I started the game up and gave it a go for myself. I went into it with an open mind, knowing the game is still in alpha stages at this point. I had the options to play single player or multiplayer, but I stuck to playing solo. I created my character and chose to be a Dwarf, though I could have been a Fey, which are some kind of woodland type of elf, or a Dark Elf. As the game is still in alpha, there wasn't much character customisation, but there was a tab saying there is more to come. Before I started playing this game I was excited to try out the terraforming. I've not played a base building/survival game where I was given the option to do this before. It's safe to say I wasn't let down by this feature as it was as fun as it looks. I spent a solid half an hour building an underground base with the tool. It was really cool. I can see endless designs being created using the feature by some talented individuals. I moved onto building myself a little base above ground after playing around with the terraforming. This is done by collecting wood and stone, then refining those materials to build foundations and walls etc. It was very basic, but so is every house I build on games where you build! The building mechanics however, as well as the rest of the games controls, has a learning curve to it. Everything feels a little clunky to start. I looked past this though due to the game being in early access. The game allows you to fight monsters, craft items, level up skills and survive. I never did much fighting as I have been too busy building and overusing the terraforming! There's some fun gameplay to be had and will only get better. The devs are active on putting more content into this game so it's definitely worth keeping and eye on. The game as some good potential and is already on the right track to being a brilliant survival game. I'd say if the sandbox genre is your kind of game then pick it up. It's cheap, has some nice graphics and with the devs constantly working on it you can expect more content to arrive!
I love the idea of this game but it is just so full of a lot of bugs.It cooks my system fans are screaming then skips CTD and goes straight to Computer shut down. Can't honestly rate yay or nay for this game. I am still hopeful and patient.I uninstalled and will wait for awhile .
Barely can move to place/construct anything.
Love the genre and the overall look and feel of the game. For an indie game, this little title has a lot going on. I started off by customizing my dwarf and spawned into a town area that I made my own. I see lots of gameplay in my future and cant wait to see it develop even more.
Terrible looking game. Movement is all but choppy and the grapics/engine look like they come from the 90's. No wonder some people claim they get 60FPS with a crap PC. I don't see how they can possibly make this game any good unless they rethink/redo everything. Also, I don't think there's sound. I turned off the music because it probably sucks, just like the rest of the game, so I don't know if there is music. Oh well.
Review Written on Thursday, May 19th, 2016
Review
Ok so Astral Terra is a sandbox survival game, so to start off i created my character which was pretty easy to use and then i created my world, Once loaded the game looks good and the detail as you look up at the sky and upper part of the tree is quite impressive compared to some of the other sandbox games that are similar to this, So i started to do some exploring and ended up doing alot of running around and basically terraforming EVERYTHING in sight which is pretty fun. I know this game is at the alpha stage but there has to be some objective or quest to keep me entertained or even wanting to keep playing as wandering around terraforming can only keep me going so long. The game has single player and multiplayer of which you can use your own created world for mulitplayer which is a great idea if you want to show friends something you have done in your own world and vice a versa. The game has a minimap which is awesome but not one thing was shown on it apart from direction. The game has a fully configured steam controller which made the game alot easier with the steam track pad. I have seen on some other reviews that you need a monster pc to run this but i disagree with that, my pc is or wasa budget pc, paid about 550 GBP and i can run this on ultra and with no issues Overall i feel this game has huge potential and i am honestly wishing the dev the best with it as it seems like he really cares about this game. It looks good and the the idea and concept of it all are great, but for me i need something to do more than just run around
Rating:
5/10
Pros:
[olist] [*]Graphics are really good. [*]Terraforming works really well. [*]Steam controller works flawlessly, trackpad made it easier than using a keyboard and mouse [*]Easy to move where you want, so if you need to get really high up, you can move yourself and no need to spend hours building or terraforming platforms. [*]Active dev, has been 3 updates recently and they are very open to feedback and constructive criticism. [/olist]
Cons:
[olist] [*]No objective or quests [*]No tutorial for the alsolute newbie on the game mechanics. [*]There are still many bugs but the dev is sorting them out. [*]The music in my own opinion started to get on my nerves abit, This should be varied with some other music. [*]The game should not be early access just yet as i feel there is still a way to go before it should be sold as early access [/olist]
Hardware Information

[th]Hardware[/th] [th]Type[/th]

Monitor 32 TV

Headphones turtle beach px3

Keyboard logitech g15

Controller xbox wireless

Mouse logitech mx518

Microphone turtle beach px3

Motherboard gigabyte

CPU hex core 3.4 ghz

GPU radeon 7750 OC

RAM 16 gb

OS windows 10

HDD 1tb sata

Disclaimer:

Source of consideration: Tethys Interactive LLC
