The gamepad works, but in a strange way. It’s impossible to perform combos, you have to use the keyboard to confirm actions, and in the settings menu you have to switch options using the mouse. They released the game and then lost interest in it. I got stuck on the first challenge, where you have to collect 2,000 helmets, but I always ended up below 1,000. I repeated it more than 20 times. The first level is extremely boring, but I told myself I’d push through. For those who grew up with this game, it might feel fine. But it’s clear that it’s an old game, and even if you like Asterix & Obelix and genuinely want to play it, the oddly functioning gamepad makes it impossible. I don’t have any nostalgic attachment to this game since I only played it in 2026, and there’s no chance they’ll improve gamepad support. I don’t recommend wasting your time on it. From what I’ve played, it’s quite a repetitive and empty game, and what’s strange is that if you clear an area and later return to it, it’s full again. I don’t know if it affects the game’s progression, but it’s odd. I can’t really imagine how this could have been a popular game at some point. Maybe for kids around 8–10 years old, but not nowadays. As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t even have the fun factor of old console games that are now somewhat popular on emulators or mini console replicas. I am disappointed. Simply no. That’s all.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Camera angles are annoying. I want to be able to have more control than that.
As much as I WANT to recommend this remaster from one of my favorite childhood games, I just can't. There are so many things wrong compared to the original, even playing on retro mode only does not give you the actual XXL experience I've grown to love from the PS2 days, nor does it give you a great new experience updated for modern platforms as the game fails to do this in almost every way imaginable. Audio problems related to helms, boxes and even the soundtrack itself were never fixed. Added extra challenges feel shallow and lack polish like quick-restart, meaning you have to walk back to the starting point MANUALLY and EVERY SINGLE TIME making more than one attempt boring and tedious. Retro mode does not capture the original game's feeling at all, be it audio mixing, the lack of actual original HUD icons (you get a semi-reworked HUD instead that still disappears temporarily when talking to the shopkeeper) and many other small issues that are just too many to count. The reworked look is just unplayable and feels wrong in every way, with sounds often being too soft or just worse than the original sounds and the previously mentioned audio problems. Especially destroying too many boxes leads to just ear-destructing levels of audio overlap AND THIS PROBLEM IS PRESENT REGARDLESS OF ROMASTERED OR RETRO MODE! There's way more problems I could list like awful draw distance, half-baked controller support (IT EXISTS but you need to setup Steam Input) despite releasing on every recent console, visible level borders, drastic weather changes when changing areas with no attempts to hide it, AND AND AND. I just can't be bothered to list it all, Youtube reviews did a very good job of that already. I feel sorry for anyone experiencing the A&O XXL series for the first time in this state, this is NOT how I remember it. Just play the original PS2 or Gamecube releases of XXL 1 and 2 in any way you can instead of this failure of a remaster. As long as this developer doesn't go back and clean up every major complain about this game and refuses to pump out an actually finished game when it's ready instead of half-arsing it for profits, I can only see them and the XXL Romastered series as a prime example of terrible remasters and why this stupid slop trend should just die already.

I don't have any nostalgia for this game. Unfortunately It does still feel like a 3d platformer that came out in the early 2000s. There's not enough freedom with the camera. It feels very restrictive. I don't like how the game automatically switches characters. It just feels off to me. I failed the first challenge and barely had 60% of what the game was asking. Tried it again and again but not even close to fill the requirement.
☆_Review in english & deutsch!_☆

Asterix & Obelix XXL: Romastered is a challenging 3D platformer!
Asterix & Obelix XXL: Romastered is a polished version of the original game. Anyone unfamiliar with Asterix & Obelix missed out on a childhood spent in front of the TV or console. The game captures a fantastic sense of nostalgia. The story is clear and easy to follow. The gameplay is great; you brawl your way through the chapters, gradually utilizing newly acquired abilities that you have to purchase. It is incredibly satisfying to wipe out hundreds of enemies using these abilities. The game gets progressively more challenging from level to level; you’ll often get taken out, especially on the higher difficulty settings. The Ultra HD graphics are razor-sharp and beautiful. The levels are all designed with great attention to detail. Switching back to the original graphics works seamlessly. The sound and voice acting are solid, and the music is pure nostalgia. Some of the achievements are very challenging and require many attempts. You also have to play through the game on Normal or Hard first to unlock Extreme mode. That mode has been the toughest playthrough of my gaming history so far. Warning: may cause rage! I bought the game on sale for €1.99. I recommend this game if you're looking for a challenge and enjoy Asterix and Obelix! Top. ---------------------------------------------------
☆_Review in english & deutsch!_☆

Top.
Boring.
