Apes Warfare

This is a pretty solid turn-based strategy game. It feels like a game that focuses heavily on the combat side of Sid Meier’s Civilization. There are more situations that require strategic thinking than I initially expected, which was a pleasant surprise. That said, those moments do not happen very frequently, so I sometimes wished there was a bit more strategic depth. In most situations, capturing buildings tends to be the most effective option. Without fog of war, it is usually possible to respond to the opponent’s actions without too much difficulty. Overall, this feels like a game where tactical decision-making is more important than long-term strategy. Personally, I felt that the early game has a very large impact on the outcome, which can make comebacks difficult at times. Multiplayer was enjoyable, although waiting for other players’ turns could occasionally feel a little slow since there is not much to do while spectating. I also felt that the multiplayer victory conditions could have been explained more clearly. That being said, the standard levels and tutorial are well designed and fun to play. Even with a few shortcomings, I still think this is a good game that strategy fans can enjoy and worth recommending.

저는 평소에 게임을 엄청 많이 하는 사람은 아닙니다. 나이도 이제 50대이고, 최근 게임들보다는 어렸을 때 즐겼던 슈퍼 대전략이나 패미컴 워스, 그리고 어드밴스 워 같은 턴제 전략 게임에 대한 향수가 더 큰 사람입니다. 이상하게도 그 시절 게임들은 시간이 지나도 계속 기억에 남더군요... 아재스타일 인터넷에서 이것저것 검색하다가 비슷하다고 해서, APES Warfare를 알게 되었고, 요즘에도 이런 스타일 게임이 있나? 하는 마음으로 스팀에서 한 번 도전해보게 되었습니다. 스팀도 익숙하지 않아요. 처음에는 솔직히 배우기가 쉽지는 않았습니다. 예전 기억도 다시 떠올려야 했고, 유닛 상성이나 시스템을 익히는 데 시간이 조금 걸렸습니다. 하지만 익숙해지기 시작하니 정말 재미있었습니다. 무엇보다 예전 스타일의 턴제 전략 감성을 유지하면서도 게임 진행 속도가 훨씬 빠르고, 화면도 보기 편하게 잘 정리되어 있어서 플레이 흐름이 지루하지 않았습니다. 특히 좋았던 부분은 단순히 돈 많이 벌고 유닛 많이 뽑는 게임이 아니라는 점입니다. 퍼즐처럼 이번 턴을 어떻게 풀어야 할까? 고민하게 만드는 요소가 많았습니다. 방심하면 바로 밀리고, 져버리고, 어떤 맵은 한 번에 깨기 어려울 정도로 전략을 요구했습니다. 그래서 오히려 더 몰입하게 되었습니다. 또 재미있었던 부분은 계속 플레이하면서 새로운 콘텐츠가 언락되는 구조였습니다. 새로운 유닛도 사용해보고, 멀티플레이나 워 아레나, 맵 에디터 같은 기능이 열리는 과정이 꽤 동기부여가 되었습니다. 물론 어드밴스 워 스타일 영향을 많이 받은 건 사실입니다. 하지만 단순 복제 느낌은 아니었고, 지뢰 시스템이나 잠수함 소나 같은 새로운 요소들을 넣어서 나름의 차별화를 만들려고 노력한 게 느껴졌습니다. 이런 요소들을 잘 활용하면 게임 흐름이 크게 바뀌는 것도 재미있었습니다. 멀티플레이는 제가 원하는 시간에 바로 사람을 찾기는 조금 어려웠지만, 디스코드에 가보니 유저들끼리 활발하게 이야기하고 있었고, 직접 사람을 구해서 플레이하는 분위기였습니다. 영어라 조금 불편하긴 했지만 커뮤니티 분위기는 좋았습니다. 물론 인디 게임이다 보니 완벽하지 않은 부분도 있습니다. AI가 가끔 사람처럼 영리하지 못한 경우도 있었고, 약간 다듬어야 할 부분들도 보였습니다. 하지만 이런 점들을 감안해도 2만원대 가격에서는 충분히 만족스러운 경험이었습니다. 예전에 어드밴스 워나 클래식 턴제 전략 게임을 좋아했던 사람이라면 한 번쯤은 꼭 해볼 만한 작품이라고 생각합니다. 특히 빠른 템포와 끊임없이 흐름이 바뀌는 전투 덕분에, 생각보다 훨씬 긴장감 있고 중독성 있게 플레이했습니다.

ファミコンウォーズの系統。UIとか操作性？の残念さが否めない。パッドで操作してて、R1ボタン？を押したら即ターン終了となる仕様。ユニットや地形の視認性なんかも少し悪い気がする。未行動のユニットを探す便利機能なんてものはない。地形や天候変化といったギミックが豊富だが、これは何？何だっけ？と思ってもヘルプが少し使いづらいとか、そういうところがイクナイ。中断セーブは無いぽい。 盤面数は、キャンペーン？はチュートリアルやギミック紹介マップみたいなのを含め３５ほど。アリーナが18ほど。他、マップエディタ（Beta版）がある。作成できるサイズは１０×１０～２４×２４。作成した盤面を共有できたら楽しそうではあるが、現状不可ぽい。ここにテコ入れがあればなと思う。 楽しめなくもないし、光るところはあれど、上記のようなマイナス点などが結構ツラい。

I got this because it was bundled with Warside and actually Apes Warfare was more fun than Warside. It felt a little bit more like Advance Wars. Recommend this game

It’s a bit of a brain teaser, but it’s a strategically engaging game. The thrill of victory when you exploit the strengths and weaknesses of each unit and position them strategically is truly exhilarating. I highly recommend it to fans of turn-based strategy games.
