Thoroughly impressed as I didn’t have any expectations going in other than it was highly rated. Excellent modern Quake with a fantasy twist. Pros: - Beautiful environments and lighting - Weapon Designs & Functions - Atmospheric Music - Enemy Variety - Level Design & Variety - Power Up Gimmick - Final boss - The Black Labyrinth expansion Cons: - Bosses (Generally too easy) - No Map - Trident is underpowered - AMD GPUs can’t use RTX feature To keep it brief, this game impressed me. I’ve played many old and new boomer shooters (Doom, Quake, Prodeus, etc.) on various systems. This one is a must-play if you’re a fan of shooters because it feels and looks fairly different in a great way. It has interesting level designs, cool weapons, good enemy design, unique power-up system per weapon, and it kept me entertained throughout the entire game despite some minor repetition. Also, Black Labyrinth DLC is worth it as it's one of the best expansion packs for this type of genre I've ever played. There's not much to criticize in it really as it's just a great experience from beginning to end with a markedly good soundtrack + scripted events too. The biggest criticisms against Amid Evil I can think of is that some levels can drag on for a bit too long, I’m not the biggest fan of the music (although it is good), the trident is underpowered compared to the rest of the arsenal, and the bosses can be a bit too easy if you choose to use the power-up gimmick. It’s unfortunate that I can’t use the RTX feature even though my 9070 XT GPU would be more than capable to use it. This game understands the genre, has lots color (which is nice since usually, this genre’s color palette consists of a whole lot of grey, brown, and black everywhere), and you don’t get lost too much within the levels so the pacing is kept (which is huge). Highly recommend. 9.0/10.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

QUAKE with magick
Absolutely quintessential boomer shooter. This game's visuals will immediately jump out at you with both their familiarity and their awe-inspiring colors and breathtaking atmosphere. I genuinely cannot praise these visuals enough, the Arcane Expanse stopped me dead in my tracks when I first experienced it; helped generously by the gorgeous soundtrack lacing the stars with piano chords. The gameplay is not as dynamic as New Blood's other published shooter releases - Amid Evil is much slower paced and less complex - but this is in no way an issue as the various weapons you find as you play will give you plenty of options and incentive to swap between them and use them for puzzles or movement. My personal favorite was the Star of Torment; you are LITERALLY flinging sharpened crystal fragments so hard at enemies that their bodies go careening into any wall or surface behind them. Levels are often quite open ended and will lead you all over the map, which can be a little confusing sometimes but is generally consistently quite good. Some areas like the Sacred Path feel more winding and labyrinthine, while areas like The Forges feel much more focused on diverse combat, especially with an enemy that can mess with your movement using a chained spear. The majority of the bosses are also really well designed, especially later into the game. Top all of this with an excellent soundtrack from Andrew Hulshult and a cryptic, ancient magical world to explore, you've got an excellent game on your hands. Excellent experience, would highly recommend for anyone getting into the "boomer shooter" genre.
Beautiful level design and aesthetic touch, combat is fun, do recommend.
Fun little game, really like the weapon design in this. A fresh take for the Boomer shooter genre! A love letter to Hexten of sorts. Solid 7/10!
Amazing game overall. The level design and atmosphere are nuts!
