Quite an enjoyable puzzle game, well worth it to try (although maybe when on sale). It's a Sokoban-like! Except you, the player character, have unique special powers. You go through 4 different characters with their own special powers. For example, the first one you see allows you to extend a hand horizontally, and another hand vertically, changing your shape and thus allowing you to e.g. span across water, push blocks somewhat remotely, and more. The other characters have other powers. The level design is pretty solid. Barely any filler, each one looking fresh and new from the previous. Levels tutorialize the mechanics well. The overworld is... eh. Levels are grouped into packets of around 3 levels; completing a group covers it with a bell and may unlock the path forward. (You can replay levels from the main menu.) After several packets, you seem to have two paths forward with branching levels, but ultimately you must finish all the packets in order to open the path forward leading to the ending. I think the overworld is not very inspired, and lacks choice and agency. (I also wish there was some meta-game content.) But it's just a minor issue. Ultimately, I finished the game in around 4 hours. (I played this game a long time ago and dropped it, then I reset my save and started over.) I think the price tag is a bit steep for that, but given that the levels are solid, it's still worth to play.
Fun little puzzle game with calming scenery/sounds and multiple routes to progress. There are 3 main modalities so you get better at these different types and move on when you're stuck on one for a bit, finish those 3 then there's a final 4th type and then you beat the game after some of those. I'm pretty sure I left the game running last night so it might have jumped up my hours, but I remember this game was very cheap so it's a fun little mini obsession to get into for like 3 days.
Altered is a fantastic and extremely polished puzzle game with simple mechanics and elegantly designed puzzles. It has a nice atmosphere and a great feel to it. The only criticism that I have is that it felt too short: not necessarily in how long it takes to beat (I really like games that respect your time), but I felt that there was more that could have been done with the awesome mechanics. It left me itching for more!
Wonderful game, quite challenging at times but always fair.
Tough but fair game. New "characters" (i.e., movement rules) are introduced quickly but fairly, and unique interactions are also typically introduced in a simpler way before diving into a more difficult level using them. I was a little surprised how easy the last few levels were, but maybe I found the final character more intuitive to use than some of the others.
better than i expected
Quick Description: -Altered is a sokoban style puzzle game where you play 4 different unique characters as you take on roughly 50 challenging puzzle rooms. I really enjoyed my time w/ this game and have almost nothing negative to say about it. You can pick up this gem for $5 or wait for a sale and snag it for about $2. Either way, it's such an easy recommendation for fans of tough puzzlers. It took me about 5 hrs to 100% the game. It has a very charming, almost tranquil visual style going for it. It's well balanced and has a good mix of easy puzzles, moderate puzzles, and a decent amount of challenging puzzles. Consensus: -Solid Game (Tier 3 and makes up 35% of my reviews). This is a great bite sized sokoban game that offers some unique and fresh ideas to the formula. Less experienced players may struggle, but this game will never hit the out of this world difficulty that Baba is You or Stephen's Sausage Roll hits. I think it did a great job of hitting that sweet spot right in the middle of too easy and too difficult, that most puzzle fans are searching for. Add this gem to your collection and don't look back!
That's a really tough nut to crack. Love this complex and mindbending puzzle game.
