About
Step into an adrenaline-fueled, retro first-person shooter paying homage to the beloved console shooters of the ‘90s.
Engage in pulse-pounding shootouts against cutting-edge enemy AI straight out of the futuristic realm of 1997.
Embark on 14 daring missions as Secret Agent John Walter, an elite operative tasked with saving the world from his arch-nemesis, Dominic Pulp. Protect the future against the phantoms of the past.
Traverse skyscrapers, nightclubs, museums, catacombs, and snow bases in a heart-pumping journey of espionage.
Play the entire campaign as a one-man army or alongside friends via split-screen and online cooperative play!
Each story mission is a self-contained environment where you have to accomplish varied objectives, such as hacking terminals, stealing secret plans, freeing civilian hostages, and much more… all while fighting armed guards in epic shootouts, of course.
3 Difficulty Levels
Every mission can be completed in 3 distinct difficulty modes (Agent, Special Agent, and 64 Agent). With higher difficulty comes more objectives, and more open areas to discover.
(Tip: Start with Agent to familiarize yourself with the missions, then ramp up the difficulty to discover what comes next.)
By beating par times and other trials, you can unlock Paradox Modes, which contain 70+ modifiers and cheats that enable various effects on regular gameplay, including:
Big Heads
Melee Disarms
Slow Bullet Speeds
No Reload
…and many more!
Ready for an unorthodox challenge? Complete Contracts: remixed missions with different objectives and Paradox mode pre-sets for additional Paradox unlocks.
Fight against friends in local split-screen multiplayer combat, or take the gunfight online with up to 8 players and 8 additional bots.
Enjoy full lobby customization including teams, weapon set, rule sets and paradox modifiers, with up to 10 saved pre-sets to your liking.
Deathmatch: Classic deathmatch, score the more frags to win!
Briefcase: Capture the briefcase and hold it for long enough to score a point. But don't get too comfortable, after each point won, the briefcase position is reset to a random point on the map.
Zone: You have to capture the zone on the map to score points. Don't let any enemy contest it as it will stall the countdown!
Challenges: special matches against pre-set bots where players must reach a precise score under a certain amount of time. The faster you win, the better the prizes. Unlock maps, characters, music tracks, and more!

GoldenEye more like GOAT-edEye
I just finished the campaign a moment ago! Absolutely loved my experience with it overall. I do wish the game was a bit more punishing on the hardest difficulty though, it was rare that I struggled. I do agree with a lot of the other reviews. The gameplay feel is fantastic, but mostly everything else falls a bit short. I would say the mission design is the biggest flaw with this game, it's...pretty basic, repetitive, and lacks flavor. Another thing is that the par times are WAY too forgiving past Act 1 (thankfully this is something that can easily be addressed with game updates). Castle probably has the most difficult par time in the game, the time is really tight and I felt like I was rewarded for coming up with creative ways to complete objectives faster. Unfortunately no other level challenged me quite as much. Complex's par time might be the easiest off the top of my head, it's not hard to finish the level with 90+ seconds to spare.

it sucks
As someone who never played Goldeneye as a kid, and has zero, nostalgic attachment to it, I still overall enjoy this game. I've only touched the single-player content, as the multiplayer does not interest me. Probably my biggest complaint is the lack of voice acting, it's pretty jarring and makes the game feel cheap and unfinished. I know hiring professional VAs is expensive, especially for a solo-dev project, but the dev finding some guys on Fiverr to record a couple lines, or even just asking their friends/family, would have been much better than nothing. If you don't care about multiplayer, the main campaign is on the short side, and the base asking price of $20 might be a little much for what's on offer. I'd suggest wait on a sale to get it, and you will absolutely get way more mileage out of this game if you're a Goldeneye-diehard.
