About
You are not the hero. You are in charge.
In Acceptable Losses, you are the officer behind the line. You make the calls. You assign the missions. You sign the forms while your men bleed for inches of mud.
Each day brings new orders. Send squads on patrols, trench repairs, wiring parties, or assaults.
At night, face the paperwork. Read incident reports. Review medical updates. Scan intelligence briefings. Hope reinforcements arrive on time.
Balance your duty to HQ with the lives of the men under your command. Survive twenty days. That is all they ask. Perform well and gain influence to tilt conditions to your favor. Perform poorly and they take them back.
Deliver acceptable results and you may be ordered Over the Top. Survive the assault and you will be tasked with holding the captured trenches until replacements arrive. Fail, and you will be held responsible.
Over 60 missions ranging from routine trench duty to full assaults
Every Mission has at least 6 Outcomes
Over 120 mid mission events that shift outcomes in real time
Over 30 night events affecting squads, supplies, and trench conditions
Over 15 modifiers including morale, fatigue, weather, and enemy readiness
Randomly generated soldiers with unique names and birthplaces
Permanent death within your squads
Join missions personally for a leadership boost, but risk injury
HQ evaluations that determine your standing and whether you earn the chance to go Over the Top

This game makes no sense. You can't control anything. The whole situation is bad the entire time. Your men are getting demoralized, and HQ wants you to send soldiers on what's basically a suicide mission. But somehow it's still your fault when it goes wrong.
Fun coffee break trench management game. Not a ton of gameplay here (a longer campaign/endless mode would be appreciated), but it's a fair value given the price (especially on sale). Zero reservations recommending it.

I enjoyed the game, once you get used to the mechanics and keeping your teams morale high and trying to keep them out of the sickbay it becomes a bit easier to manage. My biggest complaint is game length, start to finish including tutorial was around 2hrs. I hope the add more and develop the game. Promoted to captain then the game ended.
is cute, worth the price
A cool idea, bad execution. Yeah, i understand that things might go south regardless of what you do in real life, but that doesnt translate into a good game.
War is hell, and WWI was a hellish war. To drive this point home, you will get a mandatory mission that wrecks two of your four squads unless you get really lucky. It is downhill from there, because you can't keep up with the missions with half your platoon gone. But maybe you get lucky, and you restore the losses and salvage your squads, only to lose it all when they go over the top at the end. If the crater mission didn't wreck your platoon, that one probably will. If luck is skill and you get through it all without getting demoted or shot, then call yourself skilled. Otherwise, luck is not your friend. It is like surviving 100 times having a bat swung at your head. No... You might survive that when skilled enough. I cut my losses by refunding this game. Acceptable?

I like these kinds of games and the setting and presentation, but there just isn't enough to do. The campaign is awfully short, there are basically only 5 decisions you can make, and very little else to it
I found it pretty fun for the most part and a cool concept. They really did nail the WW1 atmosphere! Although there is one glaring part that really does drag it down a notch for me. The RNG, a sentiment that some other reviewers seem to have in common. It is way too heavy. You can do everything you can to lower the difficulty of a 3 or 4 star mission to a one star(difficulty is scaled from 1-4) and you can still get shafted because RNG decided you had a catastrophic failure on a whim resulting in you having 2 or 3 soldiers KIA and more wounded, which 9 times out of 10 ends up killing the run. Now I get it, the casualties of war is real, the game even states you can make all the right choices and your men can still get killed regardless. This make senses, is realistic and can definitely give you the "Oh ♥♥♥♥" moments, but the RNG is so over tuned and consistent that you often find yourself awaiting a ever coming brick wall of frustration that will immediately sour the mood rather then create tension that keeps it engaging or each run fresh. Don't get me wrong. I do find this game fun. It is a pretty nice, well polished and aptly priced. It is a good, niche, indie game in my books, but the over tuned RNG is just enough for me to say it is good game rather than a great game.
captures the feeling of WWI management; people who complain about the lack of agency and randomness are missing the point this is supposed to evoke the feeling of a lack of control, as that is what most management positions are in warfare I do admit the RNG can be a bit harsh sometimes and it being this strong can reduce the impact you have, while it makes for good atmosphere and vibes it does mean it can feel like your gameplay decisions are meaningless overall very good game that knows what its going for, and is worth the price it is listed at
