A Hand With Many Fingers

This game has the player piece together documents around the real life Nugan Hand Bank scandal of 1980. Moving around the game was clunky/frustrating. Not being able to discard certain pieces of evidence, being forced to pin them all up to create my crazy conspiracy board, was also irritating. There is no satisfying ending beyond having found all the documents related to this scandal. Did not appreciate the devs' personal political leanings being inserted into the game via scribbled notes. The scandal is strong enough to stand on its own. Game takes a few hours to complete. This is a neutral recommendation more than a no. It has some merit, like maybe you learn something about a real event (I did), or maybe you enjoy the process of hunting down bits of evidence through deduction. It's not bad for what it does (aside from clunky controls), but I'm not sure what it does really constitutes a game.

I had a hard time deciding whether or not to recommend this. The concept is great. The gameplay its self is pretty standard in these types of games, and the real world conspiracy aspect is definitely intriguing. My main issue is the same with everyone else: the ending. Once you uncover the necessary info, it just ends. No conclusion really. You don't even have to connect any of the info together. Once it exists you're done. Fade to black. Into the credits. As far as I can tell, all of the information that is findable is relevant. So there is no real investigation to be done. It ends up being more of file retrieving game than an investigation. At 5 dollars its hard to be upset at it, but it definitely left me wanting more. I love real world CIA conspiracies, so I still recommend.

In two minds about this one: I'd learnt about this game through a youtube video on the historical events so couldn't go in blind as with a fictional mystery; however it does a good job of building up the unease as you find more and more evidence. Searching through physical card catalogues caused a different mental space to other games in the genre where all is digital or on your desk etc, and I got quite concerned coming back up the stairs that something would have happened in my absence. As other people have said, however, at the point where you've found a decent chunk of info & an 'escalating incident' occurs, the game just ends. Bit of a letdown to an otherwise nice little historical mystery.

Neat game that captures the act of researching better than most. And it's a little spooky, just a little bit of spice thrown in there.

Finished it in under an hour, was very confused when I got the ending (I apparently skipped some boxes by piecing together PH & Paul & Helliwel). Cool concept, way too short of a game. You don't actually have to figure anything out. Just go get the box that the card tells you to. Thats the entire game
