Zup! is one of the most beautifully choreographed puzzle set pieces I have encountered. It feels like a trigger that you pull at the right time after having seen how the pieces fall together, and then... you just enjoy the show, often a sight to behold. The developer knows you're probably familiar with the mechanics by Zup! 9, so they turn them on their head -- in this entry, quite literally. The result is an experience where sometimes, you know exactly what will happen; sometimes, you can feel your way through; and sometimes, you have no idea what you're doing, but you see that something is happening, you sit back, and as you watch it unfold, you nod your head, and in a whisper, you utter: "Damn... Nice.", and it feels good. During the day, I feel like finishing several Zup games because of how addicting this kind of spectacle is. In the evening, it is an amazingly pleasant experience to put on some electronic ambient music, start Zup, and simply wind down. (these days, I like listening to music like that of Kangding Ray, Lapalux, Schiller) I'd be curious to learn more about the development process behind this franchise, as no doubt, it must've taken a while to perfect each puzzle so that the balance is maintained between the freshness of ideas, the ever-escalating mild challenge, and the wave of fun in almost every level when executed properly, going strong multiple entries. Big thanks to Quiet River for making Zup! such an exciting game!
