About
Dive into the zombie apocalypse with Zombie Panic! Source (ZPS): a cooperative, survival-horror first-person-shooter. A fast-paced standalone modification. Choose your team as the Undead or a Survivor. Enjoy their unique abilities, weapons, and challenges in this action-packed mod!
As a Survivor, unlock large arsenals of firearms, explosives and improvised melee weapons. Can you stop the waves of undead? Will you engage the horde head-on, or barricade and fortify while your friends play sniper? If all else fails, PANIC! Then run as if your lives depend on it… for they surely do.
As a Zombie, you’re free to hunt the living like the rabid beast you are. Feast upon their flesh and unlock your inner berserker. Heightened zombie night-vision gives you the upper hand in dark environments. Infect survivors as the carrier zombie (patient zero), to weaken their defenses, then sadistically watch them turn on each other. Use it all to your advantage to strategics, ambush, conquer and destroy your oblivious living counterparts.
Zombie Panic! Source hosts a variety of game modes for excellent replayability. Explore the zombie apocalypse with:
Survival Mode: Put your ability to scavenge and survive to the test. Easily the top player choice.
Objective Mode: You’re on a mission. Whether it’s to escape or defeat the horde, you’d better use your brainz to find those keys, get the power back on, hack that computer, and get to the chopper! Otherwise… I think you know what happens.
Hardcore Mode: For experienced zombie connoisseurs, you and your teammates get to enjoy pitting yourselves against extra tough foes, and even rougher odds under a timer.
Custom Made: Enjoy all kinds of unofficial gamemodes by community modders that push the game to its limits using AngelScript or SourceMod plugins.
Zombie Panic! Source wouldn't be half the game it is without nearly two decades of community content and support. Over the years this has included countless custom maps, Workshop add-ons, and community servers running all sorts of modified gameplay that might fit your style! Official, custom-made, or both - pick your favorite!

I feel like this game and No More Room In Hell would be alot better if merged together as one game as i feel this game utilizes that game's ideas better (& without having horrible controls) while also lacking some basic features (like bots) that NMRIH offered. Haven't ran into any players yet so i cant speak for balancing, but the premise is interesting. I like that the patient zero zombie can speak. Like he has resisted or not fully succumbed to the brain rot yet wish the game had the option to play with bots when players arent available/users have high ping. I also like that it isnt obvious when and if you got infected and have a chance to cure it early at the cost of wasting rare medicine that you may not have or might not have needed if rng didnt infect you and that infected survivors are essentially on both teams at once. (Instead of NMRIH where getting killed & reainmated as a zombie just turned your character to a NPC) They have the choice to kill themselves (would work great with NMRIH's suicide mechanic), help the survivors (at a safe distance) or help the zombies by attacking/weakening the unsuspecting survivors like a traitor in TTT. Thats the one thing i didnt like about Left 4 dead: the survivors having plot armor of immunity (despite the virus supposedly mutating daily) that removed the more subtle and indirect threat of infection while focusing soley on the direct & obvious threat of physical attacks. I do also like that instead of using menus you pick team by spawning in a physical lobby part of the map and walking into the door corresponding to each team (kind of like picking difficulty & episode in Quake). From a design standpoint, thats a excellent method of teaching new players the controls in a safe environment (if they somehow arent familiar with source fps controls in 2026) even if its just a side effect of their main reason to not let AFK's ruin the game which im not sure i understand how this would solve as I dont see how that disrupts any less than having them in a menu or spectating as afk's dont contribute to the game regardless of where you store them. The only game i feel solved that are Left 4 Dead (with its take a break feature turning players to bots) As for the maps, they look pretty good for the time with lots of references to zombie media, though it can be hard to navigate in darkness & sometimes be frustrating on the human team when objectives take you back and forth to opposite sides of the map or have you wait in place for minutes (like barricading doors).

I prefer Counter-Strike over Counter-Strike: Source. I prefer Half-Life over Half-Life: Source. I prefer Day of Defeat over Day of Defeat: Source. I prefer Deathmatch over Deathmatch: Source. I prefer ... well actually I hate both versions of zombie panic source or not.
