Zolg is one of those tiny indie games that keeps things extremely simple, but still manages to be surprisingly fun for a few hours. It’s a minimalist top-down shooter focused on exploration, fighting enemies, collecting upgrades, and defeating bosses. There’s no complicated story or massive amount of content - just straightforward arcade-style gameplay that feels inspired by old-school shooters and retro action games. What makes the game enjoyable is how clean and focused it is. You move through interconnected areas, collect powerups, improve your abilities, and slowly become strong enough to handle tougher enemies and bosses. The controls are responsive, the pacing is quick, and the minimalist style gives the game a nice retro charm. For such a cheap game, there’s honestly more content and replayability than expected, especially if you enjoy achievement hunting or trying challenge runs. The good: - Simple and addictive gameplay - Clean minimalist presentation - Fun exploration and progression - Boss fights are enjoyable - Controls feel responsive - Retro arcade-style charm - Good value for the low price - Nice variety of powerups - Easy game to pick up and play - Short and focused experience without filler The bad: - Very limited overall content - Gameplay can become repetitive quickly - Minimalist visuals may feel too basic for some players - Not much depth mechanically - Enemy variety is somewhat limited - Music and sound design are pretty simple - Some bosses are much better than others - Little replay value unless you enjoy achievement hunting Overall, Zolg is a simple but enjoyable little indie shooter that knows exactly what it wants to be. It’s cheap, straightforward, and fun for players who enjoy minimalist arcade-style games without a lot of unnecessary complexity.

It's very bare bones but it's a fun little shooter. This is another one of the ones where if you just play the game and don't worry about achievements it would be a fun little game. The achievements aren't too bad and they reward your mastery of the game which is fun. I'm glad to be done with it and I don't think i'll ever play it again but i mostly had a good time with it, there's something really satisfying about seeing yourself get better at the game. I do feel like the art is maybe a little too minimalistic but at the same time it's not like the game hides that fact, it's very clear from the steam page what the art is like but still while playing it I can't help but wonder if it would've benefited from adding some kind of theming.
