Just don't. I would love to recommend this game to people, I've put a decent amount of hours into it, there's so much potential but I really can't. It's so unfun now for people who don't want to play the most up to date meta / spend a lot of money to get the meta decks. The benefit of a game like this could be to bring new life to old cards/ help boost up cards that are difficult to field due to design flaws. To invent new ways to play that normally wouldn't be allowed or conventional. Recently they've gotten really out of hand with skills (player abilities that let them interact with their cards in what would otherwise be rule breaking ways; Some are small and humble, others are gigantic and egregious) but seemingly refuse to nerf/balance things like said skills (which now play the game for you in some cases, bringing multiple cards from outside of the deck to the players deck/field/graveyard/hand) and instead ban and limit cards that outside of a really annoying and game breaking skill, generally, aren't that bad (Yugioh has well over 9000 cards, so there are of course exceptions and some that need limits/bans. Luster Dragon #2 does not need limit 1 in the grand scheme of things). In fact it feels like they are actively banning/limiting cards that help you defeat the current meta. If they start making some really fun decisions and do cool stuff I would love to remove this review, but history says they won't. They are really coming off as pro-whale (as in spends a lot of money, not that there's a sweet whale deck in the game that they want more people to use) at the cost of everyone else's even casual enjoyment. Duel Links added a very fun format called rush and almost immediately introduced the same unfun skill meta despite a fresh format with fun cards and new possibilities. There's something to be said about a format called "Speed" and introducing a bunch of cards that slow down the pace with walls of text, and sometimes aren't even in the game until someone activates a skill, but that's another rant for another time. Imagine a miasmatic Midas touch, that is what Konami has.

A faster and more casual take on Yu-Gi-Oh! that’s perfect for quick duels. Plenty of nostalgia, iconic characters and enough deck building to keep you hooked. Just one more duel...
This game is like life; every time you think you're doing the right thing, you're shocked to find out you're wrong, and every time you change course, it's still the same mistake. Unless you're rich and constantly spending money, you'll succeed at everything. Look at the hours I spend playing this game; it's pointless.
Come back to Duel Links after a long time because you miss YGO, while ignoring the existence of that piece of ♥♥♥♥ called Master Duel. Discover Dragoon, face that unfair card in every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ match, and realize that the only YGO game that allowed you to build off-meta decks has turned into Master Duel. Proceed to uninstall the game and wait for Konami to release a classic YGO game. Nice Work Konami 👍👍👍
Yu-Gi-Oh!
I wanna complain, i wanna ramble. So im gonna. I had a lot of time in Duel Links then quit a while ago because it was just grinding and I wanted to play other games. I just played it again a bit today and I remembered why I quit but I hate it more now from hearing my friends talk about it. Duel Links as a concept is pretty neat. I like it at least. Seeing these characters again is awesome. Especially if they get their VA's back. Hearing them do voice lines for new support and manga cards is a dream come true (e.g. Terra Firma and Number S39: Utopia the Lightning) It's awesome seeing these characters again, trust me. But they waste a lot of potential. They're still missing my boy Fubuki/Atticus and I really want them to add manga exclusive characters with awesome decks like Midori Hibiki (Darklords) or Ren (White Aura ♡) No instead they started adding ALT Styles. Which like fine, but that's all they've been adding for a while. We have these characters already and they get some usage out of them but it's annoying if you want someone. They could also add monsters as duelists. Like the old DS games, that was cool. Hell you got OCG Stories and Chronicles you could add too. Suffice to say I wish they did more with the characters. I mean, every world but Arc-V and Vrains is stuck repeating plot points from the show. Its awesome as a fan of Arc-V and Vrains but I wanna see more of the others, I like them too. I also wanna see just random events where these characters interact. I also wanna see Mieru do Carly's fortune telling event. Anyway back to the main portion of the game. It's very grindy, it's not a very fun grind too. NPC's don't provide any challenge if you want it. They're auto fodder. Which is fine but if you want a challenge then there's... PVP. God I hate PVP. And it comes down to 1 main issue. Skills. Skills can be great. If a skill could functionally be a legal card irl then it's usually fair. Then there's ones that just give the opponent straight up everything. I left just before they added draconic contact and I heard horror stories and how it's only really gotten worse in terms of balancing. My favourite deck, Raidraptors has - None of the modern support from Phantom Nightmare - no arsenal falcon (my fave) ultimate or final fortress. Hell not even Raider's Wing - a skill that sets a trap and gives 1 free low level body (if opponent has a monster) if you shuffle the best Rank Up Magic into the deck. You can then search it back via the skill by sending a monster to the grave. A pretty alright skill, consistent but not 'win the game' strong. But when you're up against decks that get skills that DO win the game it feels defeating. I love a good back and forth duel. Outsmarting your opponent to win, having them push you to your wits to earn that victory. DL SOUNDS like that but really it's more you trying to get up the hill while your opponent aims their machine gun at you. If they miss awesome, but good luck with that. Then there's them releasing annoying cards for free for everyone. Which just means you're seeing the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Strategies Over And over I wouldn't be surprised if there's just a legion of bots dueling the same ways. In the end it's a frustrating mess of a game. If you like the characters, you can play Tag Force or something or have someone show you any cool dialogue. The mangas are pretty good too, highly recommend those. Just... don't do it. Play on a simulator with friends if you must. Just don't play this game. I'd at least play here and there more if they archived the duel quizzes they do. As a fan of puzzle games those are consistently, the funnest parts of this game.
Even though the Yu-Gi-Oh! brand carries a lot of nostalgia, it's impossible to ignore how the combination of intense grinding and drip-fed rewards doesn't respect the player's time at all.
Buen juego.
