My feelings for this game were mixed because while there were great things to like, negative aspects outweighed the positives and ultimately tarnished my experience. As a free game that takes about an hour to beat, I think it’s still worth playing and seeing what the RPG maker MZ engine has to offer. The Good – I loved the theme and immersive setting the most. In many RPGs I found it jarring that certain monsters would drop gold or potions. The setting of this game is steampunk with airships and robots. The currency is called “Scrap” which can be gathered when defeating robot enemies or when exploring a ruined town, very fitting indeed! You also have access to crafting benches where you could purchase items and upgrades with the Scrap you find, i.e. essentially serving the function of a shop. Enemies also drop “research” which can be used to teach the party new skills. I loved these thematic and immersive design choices. The Ugly – What I disliked the most was the near impossibility to avoid battles in the second half of the game, which may have been fine if battles were more fun but they weren’t. Enemies roam around on the map and battles start when you run into them. However, the second half of game occurs indoors with narrow corridors and piles of wood/stones blocking your way. My path forward was often only one tile wide, combined with the high density of enemies, this resulted in a string of essentially unavoidable battles. Plus, the space was so tight that often I got cornered in by enemies and the only way out was to fight them. This started out annoying but became boring and infuriating near the end.

A well-crafted little RPGMaker game which inside its small scope shows a lot of potential. Unique art assets are always nice to see, though not required, in an RPGMaker game, which is no exception in this case! From the characters and enemies to the buildings and tiles everything looks cohesive within the simple Steampunk aesthetic of the setting. The effects stand out as well, look good and are just the right level of flashy. The music is decent as well and fits nicely with the setting and particularly the machines that comprise the majority of the enemies. Given that this is a sample game it makes sense that the story is more of a prologue and offers only a small glimpse into the world and the characters of Joyanne and Sonie. That being said it would be nice to see a sequel to this as there is a good amount of potential to the setting and the open-ended nature of this game leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Also the environmental storytelling is quite well done in such as the house of an author being littered in scripts and wine bottles. Combat happens in real-time which is a bit of a double-edged sword. On the one hand it keeps you on your toes. But on the other hand it doesn’t allow for much strategic variety, rather it encourages finding one strategy, often just piling on damage on the enemies, and sticking with it with little incentive to experiment. Equally the concept of obtaining new skills by getting a certain amount of specific items, in this case Research, from enemies is very interesting and has a lot of potential. However that too doesn’t shine as much as it could given the lacking incentive to gather more utility skills and not just whichever skill deals the most damage. The world is still ripe with mystery and allusions to a broader cast of characters that could be interesting to meet. Additionally the combat too has a lot of potential to be developed into something greater than it is here. All of the parts assemble into a fun little game for an afternoon that leaves you wanting for more.
verry short but nice
流程过于短了。这是主要问题。整个流程的长度和内容充实度可以说完全是个demo水平。这也导致没法完全展现玩法的深度。高强度玩的话,甚至1个多小时就能通关,还能赶上退款。 This game is too short. The length and richness are completely at a demo level.
I liked this a lot. crafting, the leveling i look forward to more (hopefully still free so i can play it)
Honestly, it should be expanded to a full game! Good 1 to 1 1/2 hour demo of what you can make yourself. Asset library looks custom as well as some for the intro graphics but almost everything else looks drop and play.
Really enjoyed.
