Winds of Valen is one of those games where I can tell pretty quickly what it is trying to do. It is a free fantasy MMORPG built around old school progression, with a big open world and a lot of the focus placed on actually working for your upgrades. I like that approach because the game does not feel like it is trying to throw everything at me right away. I can spend time fighting, mining, fishing, smithing or working on other skills and slowly build my character up. It has a simple idea behind it, but there is something satisfying about watching all those little improvements add up. The progression is probably the part I enjoyed most. There are several combat skills to work on, along with professions like mining, smithing, fishing and potion making. I like that these are not completely separate activities either, since gathering and crafting can feed back into the rest of my progression. The loot system is also a nice touch because enemies can have their own unique drops, which gives me another reason to keep fighting things instead of just rushing through the world. It gives the game that old school feeling where getting something useful actually feels like an achievement. Combat is decent, although it is not the strongest part of the game for me. The boss fights have more going on than just standing there and hitting something, and some of them can actually punish mistakes. At the same time, the overall movement and combat controls take some getting used to. The click based movement can feel awkward, especially when I am trying to deal with enemies and manage everything around me at once. I would have liked the controls to feel more natural because the rest of the game has enough going for it that this does not need to hold it back. I also think the presentation is a mixed bag. The world is nice enough to explore and there are some areas that give me that classic fantasy MMO feeling, but it is clearly not trying to compete with much bigger games on visuals. That is not really a problem for me because I would rather have a game with good progression than something that looks amazing and has nothing interesting underneath it. There are also still some rough edges and technical issues that make it feel like a game that is being actively built rather than a completely finished MMO. The free to play side is handled in a way I can appreciate. There is a decent amount of content available without paying, while the membership adds access to extra content, more bank storage and some other benefits. I do think the game needs more depth over time if it wants to keep me playing for the long term. The foundation is there, but I can see myself eventually wanting more areas, more bosses, more skills and more things to work towards. That is not a deal breaker for me though, especially considering I can get into the game without paying anything. Overall, I think Winds of Valen is a surprisingly enjoyable little MMORPG. It is rough around the edges and there are parts of the controls and combat that I think could be better, but I like the direction it is taking. The progression feels meaningful, the open world gives me room to choose what I want to work on and the crafting and loot systems give the game a reason to keep going. I would not call it a perfect MMO, but there is enough here for me to enjoy and I think the foundation could become something much better as the game continues to grow. Rating: 7.8/10

This game is in alpha and is sorely lacking in content and there have been too few releases since November 2025 Regarding the member release: They’ve added just one quest, which is a quest to gain access to a town added the caves to bash mobs with loot that has a 0.1% drop rate, and there’s mining – wow insane who cares They’ve added extra fishing zones that are buggy and introduced the option to buy character slots for €5 each – meh, they won’t be any use They’ve added a monthly subscription system to access future content and blocked non-members from voting on future updates Logic would dictate that the game should be finished before asking for money, wouldn’t it? SO DON’T SAY IT’S A DAMN F2P GAME WHEN YOU’RE IMPOSING A F****** MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION – EVEN OSRS HAS MORE CONTENT IN F2P THAN THIS JOKE OF A GAME Go and have a look at OSRS – there’s more content (dungeons, quests, rare loot, pets, skills, professions, various zones, each more hostile than the last) and you’ll get better value for money in every aspect, even if it means paying a subscription fee
nice game
just another ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game
First MMO ive really put time into since playing OSRS. With the membership update came great new content and new end game boss to farm thats miles more difficult then any previous boss. Theres still a lot to do in F2P before thinking of buying membership. With roadmap adding new skills and them not abandoning the F2P players since membership arrived I have high hope for the games future. Worth playing if you like grindy sandbox MMOs
game is addictive . the makers of game are doing lots of updates and it improves alot everytime and adding new stuff every time as well .
I always wanted a Runescape copy made in Unreal Engine but why would you make it click-to-run only? Add WASD movement and a small intro tutorial and the players would actually stay in the game. There should be more content like quests and more areas, more skills, more items... There is a lot of room for improvement. PvE Death should be penalized in some way, and I've seen comments from people thinking they have to use the arrow buttons on their keyboard to rotate the camera, you definitely need to explain that it's click+hold on the mouse scrollwheel button, or change it lo RMB by default, like I did, the default sensitivity is way too high etc. PLEASE KEEP WORKING ON IT BUT IF I CAN ONLY CHOSE 1 THING, LET IT BE WASD-movement!
Winds of Valen is a massive disappointment. The entire game relies entirely on generic Synty Studios polygon asset packs (like the Polygon Fantasy Rivals pack) copied and pasted straight into the world. It provides no original art effort, no impressive gameplay mechanics, and zero unique experiences to set it apart. The core gameplay is essentially a cheap RuneScape rip-off built entirely around an endless, mindless grind. There are barely any unique features or actual content available—it just copies the mechanics without any of the charm. To make matters worse, more than half of the game is now locked behind a paid monthly subscription. It’s hard to justify playing—let alone paying for—a game that feels like a low-effort asset flip with predatory paywalls. Save your time and money for something crafted with actual effort.
