Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0/day in the week to Sep 15 → 0/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About

WHISPERS IN THE MOSS is a full-scale retro JRPG inspired by the charm and structure of 8-bit and 16-bit console classics, built entirely in a distinctive text-based (ANSI/ASCII-style) visual format.
Developed solo over more than a decade and coded in QB64 (a modern evolution of QuickBASIC), the game embraces old-school aesthetics while delivering a complete 30-hour RPG experience for modern players. Since its release, Whispers in the Moss has been warmly received by players and currently holds a 100% positive rating on Steam.
An Epic Journey: Follow three young heroes from a quiet fishing village as they are drawn into a conflict between an expansionist empire and a banished prince seeking to restore balance. As their journey unfolds, darker forces begin to stir beneath the surface… Expect emotional turns, lighthearted moments, and a cast of vibrant characters shaped by classic JRPG traditions.
Classic Turn-Based Combat: Inspired by early Final Fantasy titles, battles revolve around strategic turn-based encounters. Exploit enemy weaknesses using physical attacks, black and white magic, items, and special skills. As you progress, customize abilities and develop your own approach to combat.
A Highly Distinctive Visual Style: Whispers in the Moss presents one of the most ambitious uses of large-scale text-mode graphics in a modern RPG. Every environment, enemy, and visual effect is crafted in a carefully designed tile-based ASCII format, creating a retro atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and unconventional.
Original Soundtrack: The game features a full original soundtrack of over 50 tracks, composed by the developer. Drawing inspiration from classic JRPG composers such as Nobuo Uematsu, Yoko Shimomura, Yasunori Mitsuda, and Michiru Oshima, the music supports the world with melodic themes, battle energy, and emotional depth.
Optional Content & Exploration: Beyond the main story, discover a wide range of optional content including side quests, monster hunts, fishing mini-games, hidden secrets, and over 170 unique enemies to encounter and catalogue.
A Decade in the Making: Whispers in the Moss is the sole creation of Tapio of Uncultured Games, who handled the design, engine, art, writing, music, and production. Developed over more than 12 years alongside full-time work and family life, the project represents a long-term passion for classic RPG design and retro computing culture.

*Game time is not accurate. It took right at 20 hours to finish, the Steam Deck didn't count my offline hours for some reason.* First off this game runs great on the Steam Deck. I played the entirety of it there and had no issues with text being too small or performance. You'll just have to configure the controls in the Steam menu. This game is a charming reminder of old school RPGs. The soundtrack was phenomenal and the dialogue was well written (with the exception of one character I just thought was annoying, but no big deal). The game play is like your standard turn-based RPG, with the addition of the *capture* element of one of your party members that allows you to gain essential items for new spells and weapons, and a *steal* move that actually has uses other than nabbing items. At first I found the capture mechanic to be a frustrating feature because of the poor success rate. This gets easier the longer you play the game and get a better feel for how low and enemy's health needs to be, but a little bit higher success rate would definitely help improve the game. The story was entertaining and fun to go through. The biggest flaw I found was the scaling of the combat. I didn't feel the need to grind until the final stretch. I never ran from an encounter and honestly felt overpowered up until the end. The last section almost broke me with the massive difficulty spike, but after going back and grinding up quite a few levels, and a few secret bosses under my belt I was able to finish it. Overall this game was a blast to play and deserves the positive feedback that it's getting. I really hope to see more games from this developer in the future. Get out there and listen to the Whispers in the Moss you fwonkles!

From the bit I've played, it's a high quality JRPG that has a very fascinating presentation. I don't think I've ever seen a game look quite like this before. It's quite interesting! And judging by how hard it is to execute well on this style, I really don't think I will see a game look like this again. Don't let the game's appearance intimidate you, though. The mechanics and gameplay should be very familiar to JRPG fans, and the story is very traditional high-fantasy. I wanted to get this review out early to help bolster the game in its early days, but I have a feeling I'll enjoy the rest of it. Great job, developers! Try it out if you're a JRPG fan or are interested in the game's presentation.
If you like JRPGS and have the patience required to deal with finding your way through one then this is a great pick up! The unique graphics on top of a solid JRPG base make this game both fun and relaxing while fixing a lot of the clunkier issues found in older games and staying engaging with side content/world.
i have only played 20 mins but the art style alone is worth 5 bucks
Yes. Buy it, play it. It's cheap as REDACTED and different from everything else right now. Yes.
This is a truly special game. Creative both visually and conceptually, quirky and whimsical, and mechanically and narratively interesting. If you're a fan of turn-based RPGs, ANSI/ASCII art (and even if you're not and are willing to try something new, like me), definitely pick this up. It's a steal for the price it is.
A good console RPG style game with a unique visual style. Worth checking out.
