Visually above average. Gameplay is very shallow to the point its plain boring. Not for me, but im sure many people will have their fair share of fun with it. Buy it on sale if you like easy, chill atmosphere platformers, you wont be disappointed. BUT definitly not worth 30€ imho.
There where some bugs (running on Linux), but still a fun game. Clock in 7 and a half hours.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

It's a fine enough game, surfing is fun and the plot is decent too. But the game feels lackluster. The platforming only has a few elements and mechanics that repeat through the entire game without adding anything new at all, and the combat despite clearly not being the main focus of the game is also pretty lacking and almost unneccessary because the enemies are way too easy and there is literally only 4 different enemies throught the entire game, the combat just feels like filler. Also I find the 30 bucks price kinda overprice for what the game has to offer, so I would only recommend picking the game during sales. Personally I give it a 6/10, it's okay enough.
The game soundtrack is very good. the camera movement sometimes are frustrating at worse and meh.. at its best.
My Experience
Wavetale is a simply and pretty straightforward platformer and adventure game about saving your people from sea monsters, gloom and discovering secrets of the ocean. I absolutely love the art style and presentation. I never get tired of those funny drawn 2D expressions on the cartoonish and varied 3D models. The ocean looks beautiful as well, but my eyes kind of glossed over other elements of the environment like the little islets and various buildings. I will say though that the Serpent is absolutely gigantic to the point of actually making me feel a little terrified. I don't remember the last time a game made me look up at how big something is and think like that. Some of the voicework and cutscene animations though felt pretty hit or miss, and I'm not sure how to put it into words. In one scene it was pretty smooth and detailed, in another it felt awkward. I was dropped into the gameplay a bit suddenly but I quickly figured out the controls. They're a little weird for MKB but I got used to it. Platforming felt okay, land combat was meh but the real juice is on the water. The movement there feels so smooth and fluid without being snappy. You have momentum and it's comparable to, say, riding a horse in other games. You can't turn on a whim, you have to slow down and depending on your speed you might have to go for a wide arc. Sea combat was a little better with how you have to weave around attacks and your own attacks snap towards the enemy. But it also feels sad as it shows potential for being better but isn't quite there yet. You can collect sparklings to buy clothes and hats. Yes, you can make Sigrid wear silly hats. GOTY contender. I don't have much to say on the world and story. It's there. It felt pretty standard with our teen hero having to push back all the evil fog and restore the land. Though Grandma isn't likeable one bit lol.
Conclusion
You're probably curious about how I'm regarding the game as mainly being average but still entertaining, and aspects like the art and sea movement are pretty great, but leaving a negative review. Why? It's mainly because of the price point. I bought this on a very strong sale but I'll still judge it by that price. The length of the game plus the quality on display don't really match up to the asking price. I get the effort that went into the game, and I did overall enjoy the experience. I don't need it to be anything profound or amazing, just something chill and easy fun but the price really kills the idea of leaving a positive review. I would only recommend this game on a very strong sale. I ultimately didn't finish the game and ended up dropping it due to getting softlocked at a point in the main story, and not being able to find a solution or anyone else who might have had the same issue. But given that I already saw the game's core I feel comfortable leaving this review as it is. Great art, smooth feel-good movement and platforming, bland combat. As a project it overall shows that the devs have a solid grasp of what they're doing but this could've spend more time in the oven. It's a solid base to build upon, it shows promise, so I'm curious what the devs went on to make after this. Please remember to check other reviews to make a properly informed decision about purchasing this game. I am but one man speaking from my own experience and with my own preferences.
is good
