Vermintide 2 might be the very best "AI Director" co-op game of all time. In hindsight, it released in that goldilocks era just before the over-monetization kicked in. And it cut it *really* close. All maps and mission-like content is free, but a cash shop for cosmetics was patched in later. Even got DLC player classes, but I personally was happy to support the game and did pay for that bundle. Only other $$ I spent on the game. The idea that I can relaunch the game in 2026, after more than a 5 year gap, and not just be presented with new content to conquer, but for the game to still feel as incredibly polished as it does, is astounding. Even the player population seems to be fine somehow. (I have not dove into the new-ish PvP mode, so idk how active that scene is. But the fact that I even need to make that caveat is incredible) Seriously, if you want to play a co-op horde clearing game where every ding of HP feels as fair as it gets in the genre, this is it. Keep your ears peeled for those audio cues, because there's no modern babymode cheaty systems like foes only attacking when they are in your FoV.
