Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, takes a bold turn away from base building and focused on small-scale, squad based tactics. At first it feels strange compared to the orginal, but once it clics, it´s incredibly fun and intense. Pros: (+) Strong tactical gameplay with focus on squads and abilities (+) No base building = faster, more action focused matches (+) RPG style progression and gear system in the campaign (+) Great co-op campaign experiance (+) Excellent voice acting and atmosphere Cons: (-) No classic base building may not appeal to these who like it in the orginal (-) Smaller scale battles may not appeal to everyone (-) Some missions can feel repititive (-) Multiplayer can feel less varied then the orginal Overall, Dawn of War II is a bold and refreshing take on the serie. It trades scale for depth, and if you enjoy tactical gameplay, it´s an absolute gem.
This Review is for anyone looking for the Retribution DLC in the anniversary edition or having issues playing on a modern PC. This is what I have found that works for both DoW 1&2.( Check my DoW review for help with that one as it has way more issues to actually run) To play the DLC you have to install it as a total separate game (Specifically Retribution as Chaos Rising is somehow in the anniversary edition). I have no idea why it doesn't show up when you run the anniversary edition. You have to search your library as it comes with the anniversary bundle according to my research. Unlike DoW 1, this works fine at higher resolutions so far up to 4k no issues yet. But due to the lack of them explaining or help for people to play all of the included product I will not recommend it on my review but that's the only reason. I still love the game and if you are looking to play online it seems last I checked Ret in game said there was over 300 players this very morning. Seriously how can they be bringing back all these games and not fully explain things like this? I feel sometimes GW really is that Greedy little SOB. As for DoW2 in its entirety. Retribution DLC has more playability with the inclusion of the Imperial Guard but Chaos Rising is still my fav campaign of the DoW2 choices. Really leaned into the loot and RPG mechanics of the campaign which I love. I will change to recommended once they either fix the issue or help players play the product they own. In my opinion it is very distasteful to say it includes all DLC but make it difficult to fully enjoy it. To someone buying this product for the first time, it would come off as a scam most likely. I don't normally weigh in, but seeing the mixed reviews on this game is prompting me to jump in. DoW II is such a breath of fresh air, if you're expecting a standard 4x type rts you're going to be disappointed. If you come in expecting an rpg flavored squad based (like company of heroes) type game, you're going to really enjoy it. I love the leveling up, gear upgrades, squad selection before missions, the whole game just scratches an itch I never knew I had. One of my top 5 games, for sure. Then you add in the co-op, and you got yourself a great way to spend a few bucks and familiarize yourself with the thieving magpies, er, blood ravens.
Quite a great choice if you’ve always wanted to try RTS games but found most of them too overwhelming. The pace here is leagues slower than something like Starcraft. Since you only control a few squads with their abilities, it feels much more manageable - closer to Real Time Tactics than a pure RTS. The retreat mechanic is genuinely unique, haven’t really seen anything like it in other rts. The campaign also includes a system with loot accuisition reminiscent of Diablo, which adds a surprisingly enjoyable layer. Overall, there’s plenty of content for both singleplayer and multiplayer, with MP matches still managable to find. Would be great to see it get a definitive edition like the first game, but even now it’s fully playable and worth a try
Love Dawn of War 1 Hate this one It's so insanely slow There's some good ideas, yes, but the lack of races, unit diversity and the insane slow pace of the game make it unplayable for me edit : I learned you can accelerate a game using cheat engine. After just a tiny bit of testing, the game is so so much better now. I will give a final review after more testing.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME ANYMORE I bought the game a while back and while it was enjoyable for a couple matches i had also bought the other dawn of war games and ended up uninstalling this one for a time, however u[on reinstallation to get some more playtime the game freezes on startup. I have tried every fix under the moon and inevitably wasted 2 hours trying to play this game. From running compatibility changes in the properties and running as administrator to waiting 10 minutes to let the game run, to the small things like making sure everything was up to date, verifying game files, restarting, uninstalling restarting and reinstalling, the game will not run on newer systems anymore, even attempting to disable steam input and overlay the game no longer runs in any way, its not even giving a crash report it just freezes up and never actually launches.
It took me three separate attempts to get into this game. I bought it back in 2018 because people kept comparing it to Company of Heroes. Let me be very clear: This game is not Company of Heroes. If you go in expecting base-building, traditional RTS pacing, or wide battlefields, you will walk away frustrated like I did. Twice. I also came in with zero knowledge of Warhammer 40K, and I can confidently say: This is not a gateway into 40K lore. The game assumes you already understand why everyone is shouting oaths and punching aliens in the name of a golden corpse. As a newcomer, the universe was confusing, not intriguing. Only on my third attempt did I accept the game on its own terms: - No bases - No economy - No reinforcements Just four squads, tactical pressure, and permanent consequences Once I stopped wishing it was something else and embraced what it actually is (a brutal, small-squad tactical RPG with real battlefield stakes) it finally clicked. And I enjoyed it. I didn't play the multiplayer. That's not my thing, so maybe that is like COH.
Крутая игра для кооперативного прохождения сюжета.
