Veneficium is a short but okay atmospheric horror game done by the people who have made helpless and odyssey of the mammoth, okay story time. A young witch named Abigail is alone in a forest having been separated from her grandmother after getting revenge for the death of her coven sisters, but she's determined to save the only family she has left now, but something dark creeps in the forest. Okay now likes, the atmosphere is very good nice and spooky and keeps you on edge, especially when you see the monster for the first time. The graphics are really good nice use of color, shadows and scenery. The levels are good very detailed and very creepy, definitely makes you feel like you're in a messed up olden times. The monster design is very good, nice and creepy with a good uncanny valley sort of look to it. The story is okay despite being very simple and short; it sets up the plot well and introduces a pretty interesting twist. The gameplay is okay it's just a simple get to A to B without being grabbed by the monster, it also introduces a little magic system where you have two spells you need to get ingredients for which was an interesting idea, one spell to turn invisible another spell to make your pursuer forget that they're pursuing you. The music was okay and the voice acting was fine. Now is this game scary it can be, it has a good spooky atmosphere and a great monster design that helps you keep you on edge. Also like the others this game is free. Okay now dislikes, like the other games created by this team this one's particularly short, but the problem is those games had achievements you could get which extended the play time of the games, but there are no achievements to get here. There are some bugs in the game but nothing that a quick restart won't fix. Also I didn't really like that the monster could teleport, it was just kind of frustrating. Okay with that done Veneficium is a short but okay atmospheric horror game done by the people who have made helpless and odyssey of the mammoth, with a good atmosphere, very good monster design and an okay story. Now do I recommend this game I do if you're looking just for a simple time waster but I do have to say like Shadow burglar I do hope the people behind this game does a remake because there's actually a lot of potential here.
Moin Hemmel! VG
The game has potential but as of now there's a few bugs where if the monster is far away from you, it will spawn all of a sudden on your position. Had it happen many times where I was sprinting out of my shadow steps ability and then I got jumped by it spawning on my position which didn't give me time to counter it with fake steps. I'm not sure if this is a bug but the monster killed me when I didn't make any sounds, just crouched for a few mins because it was near me and then all of a sudden he just killed me.
Veneficium is a pretty boilerplate "cat and mouse" horror game. You are a witch. You are being chased by a gangly-headed demon. Hide. Collect some organs. Rinse and repeat. For a free game it's absolutely fine. Besides a few pathing and spawning issues with the monster, it ran mostly bug-free, and it had some nice hand drawn cut scenes, which I appreciated.
A walking sim version of Blair Witch if you're into that. I'm not
