It's really good for showing people the scale of cosmic objects e.g. Betelgeuse next to our Sun.
really good, I would say that there is some quirky bugs sometimes and sometimes they're funny, and sometimes they ruin everything, but the handy debug tool is here, so yeah, good but a bit unpredictable
I bought universe sandbox in 2015 near when it released and was still called "Universe Sandbox 2." I remember the original universe sandbox being a cool way to look at planets and when they'd collide they'd either go "pop" or "shlorp" and that was it. Since then Universe Sandbox became Universe Sandbox Legacy and Universe Sandbox 2 became the Universe Sandbox you see today. Since I bought this game way back in 2015 the game has constantly gotten updates, adding planets, features and has since became utterly stunning to just look at. and when planet collide it creates possibly the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in a video game. From comets to planets colliding to supernovae to galaxies "colliding" this game looks beautiful and manages to run great on my mediocre computer and somehow over a decade later the game is STILL BEING UPDATED! best 20 something quid I have ever spent.
Absolutely fabulous and intoxicating for people who enjoy science, astronomy, and just like asking "What if?" I overwhelmingly recommend it!
11 years later and its still in "early access"
# The Weight of Creation: Universe Sandbox Most games ask you to survive in a world. Universe Sandbox asks something far more unsettling: What happens when the world survives because of you? At first, curiosity takes over. You move planets. Change orbits. Create stars where none existed before. You experiment with gravity as if it were a toy. Then Earth disappears. A collision you didn't expect. A moon placed too close. A star made slightly too large. An entire world erased in seconds. And suddenly, the scale of what you're looking at becomes impossible to ignore. Every planet is a delicate balance. Every orbit is a silent agreement between gravity and time. Every stable system is the result of countless forces working together across millions of years. The universe feels eternal until you are given the power to break it. That's what makes Universe Sandbox so fascinating. It transforms physics from a collection of equations into something you can feel. You don't just learn how worlds are created. You learn how easily they can disappear. There is something strangely humbling about watching a civilization's home vanish because of a decision you made with a single click. Not because it is destructive. But because it reminds you how fragile existence truly is. Universe Sandbox is often described as a physics simulator. For me, it felt more like a lesson in perspective. A reminder that every world is a miracle. And miracles are far easier to destroy than they are to create.
