I LOVE Ultimate Chicken Horse. This game just misses the mark and doesn't feel like a sequel. Instead it feels like a hollow copy. I'll list a few major issues. First, there is an arbitrary timer placed on each round. There's no reason for a timer. Players build the course and sometimes the obstacles can take a long time to navigate. The timer has no relation to what's in the level or the number of objects. So, often, you'll find that the timer will expire before it's even possible to finish the race. The movement is just not enjoyable. They should just bring back the physics from Ultimate Chicken Horse and use the updated character models. There's no reason to have momentum and the jump height needs to be increased. Also, the stage select is SUPER BORING and UNFUN. You select stages by using an old computer user interface. In the first game, you jumped around a big treehouse with lots of secrets to select your stage. Which one sounds more enjoyable? I would love to see this game succeed.
I hesitate to give this a thumbs up, but i will give a very slight leaning positive, Tenative thumbs up. With this new update the game has become miles better. the physics work better and there is a lot of bugs fixed. (though we still encountered some. We've played this game 3 times. this 3rd time was definitely more a charm than a curse, but there is still room for improvements. What I like so far: - The characters have a lot of charm. i dont know why people are saying they dont. - the new balloon mines and the chain trap add a lot more waiting rather than just holding forward and winning - The addition of "TOO Easy! No Points!" was vastly appreciated. - Making hardcore mode a lot clearer - Making the tricks a LOT clearer (this was a big issue before) - Dam and scrapyard maps are a blast to play - the new physics work fairly well. (with the exception i will get into in the negatives) - a lot of the previous bugs have been fixed - Rails work correctly now What I dont like so far: - The maps are still pretty short in length on several stages. which causes a problem with the next point - Several power ups are either underwhelming (honey and bounce mine) or too good and can clear half the map when used right (Boost) you also get too many powerups. which can trivialize the smaller maps. - Having one interact button means a player can place a bunch of stuff together and the game wont be able to decide which is which, sending you to your doom. trolls can very easily make this not fun. - manually summersaulting/leaning should be much faster. trick flipping vastly outweighs it its still so cumbersome and i rarely touch it because i cant complete one without crashing often. really think it should just be like trials speed. - Players start in different spots. the person in first on the start has a distinct advantage due to this. they have mitigated it somewhat with speeding you up from the start. but the issue is still present. - The Double jump power up fails to work half the time. sometimes it will register two jumps when you interact with an object even if you havent jumped. its currently the worst power in the game due to this. - The game gives you waaaaaay too many platforms. frequently they were pointless and i just had to place them away from the track. im hoping adding more items over time will fix this. All in all, the game is getting better. but there is still much room for improvement. wait a few more updates and i'd definitely say pick this up after that. Its a step in the right direction, which is why im giving it a thumbs up. just a very loose one.

Needs to be early access and significantly cheaper. You can tell it is unfinished and whilst I don't think it's a lost cause or anything it probably needs 6 more months of updates to become worth the price. if its on sale for 70+% then i would recommend it. When you are making a sequel the first game shouldn't be 4x better.
I loved Ultimate Chicken Horse, but this game feels… uninspired, I guess? The controls feel clunky and the objects feel like an afterthought. Then there are tons of breaking and just annoying bugs. Things that should not have been in a 1.0 release, let alone 1.3. Refunded.
Good bones for the game but unpolished and unfinished. No updates from the developers since release.
I really wanted to like this game, but it is way too buggy to recommend. The very first match I played, I experienced 3 different bugs that were significantly impacting my experience. - The control scheme used during the tutorial was different from the default control scheme in-game, forcing me to relearn how to play. - I would constantly 'fall off' my bike, and never recover, but after going to the menu and back, was finally able to continue playing, but on an empty bike with no player? - Rules around post-mortem finishes and timers for getting back on the bike are unclear and seemed inconsistent. - The UI would randomly disappear and the camera was never consistent. Impossible to keep track of what was going on in multiplayer matches. I really want to like this game, and there IS a good game underneath all of the bugs and inconsistencies. I really hope they are able to polish the game over the next few updates, but in its current state, you are more likely to be frustrated than be having fun, and I just can't recommend a party game that requires such an unfortunate caveat.
Truthfully, this game is not complete, there are changes that should be made and pieces that are missing. However, this is still a good game, my friends and I will keep playing. I wasn't fully pleased with the other reviews and hope to cover as much info as possible here. A lot of these might seem to be negative, and these are mostly based on comparison to the first iteration in the series "Ultimate Chicken Horse" (UCH), not in overall game play. I think the game is really fun, our friend group will continue to play the game and I would actually recommend it. In its current state, I would recommend that you try and buy on a discount, but if they fix some of the main issues, I would absolutely pay the retail price for this game. Things that are just weird but do not negatively affect the overall gameplay:

You cannot fully stop your bike.

This isn't as big of a problem as most people think. You can absolutely rock the stick back and forth quickly to fully stop. Yes, it takes a little bit of getting used to. Yes, it is a mild inconvenience. But NO, it absolutely does not make the game difficult or unplayable. You don't actually really need to "stop" for anything. It mostly is preferential, but doesn't change the overall gameplay.

The default timer is kinda low.

While playing with 3 players, we only encountered this two or three times, but sometimes the timer will run out before you are able to finish a level, which of course is annoying, but this happened less than 5% of the total time played. Not really game breaking, just annoying sometimes.

You can't change the items, rounds or round timer.

In my cons I touch on the customization a bit more, but this is mostly just annoying not really bad. I feel you still get a full level out of the defaults, but it would be nice to have the ability to change these settings as you could in Ultimate Chicken Horse.

Pros:

The bikes are a fun new spin.

I think that vehicles of any kind are a great way to enhance the previous game. Bikes are a great choice, specifically used in the case of the tricks they added, but I am looking forward to the different ways to customize the bikes.

The tricks are a fun way to get more points.
The power ups are fun.

The power up system is a nice enhancement and you can stack power ups which also adds to their usefulness.

The controls are easy to learn.

I don't know how other bike-rider games play, but I think the controls here are easy to learn and the tutorials are pretty good. If you have played other bike-riders, you might have a different experience, I can't say, but it is a pretty easy control system to learn.

Cons

There is no way to complete some levels on the first round with less than 4 people.

Most of the levels in this game require you to entirely build the middle 50% of the level. This in and of itself is not a problem, but there were three of us and even selecting the longest parts in the box each we were unable to stretch the entirety of some levels with the parts we were given. It took two if not three rounds to make enough platforms to span the gap. I don't necessarily think this is done on purpose, but I don't think they tested fully with each possible number of players.

There is no end turn button.

In Ultimate Chicken Horse, you were able to end your turn if there was no possible way for you to get to the flag or if there was also no way to die. However, this option is entirely removed in this game. In parallel to the next con, remote players breaking, this extends the level time unnecessarily because players cannot end their turn.
As a side note, other dead players should have the option to force end the remaining players turn if they are holding the game up. (This wasn't in UCH either, I just think this feature should be added.)

Sometimes remote players break altogether.

Sometimes when we were playing, while the option for "deadly items" was off, players would fail to respawn after hitting an item. The bike would stay on the screen, but the player wouldn't respawn so they couldn't control anything. This would cause the game to either:

If only one player was in this state, it would enter the countdown phase and eventually end the game.
If more than one player was in this state, it would soft lock the game until one of the bikes fell off the level, then the remaining player would enter the countdown phase.

The amount of customization is less than 10% what it was in the first game.

In UCH, you could not only customize which items were available in games, you could fundamentally change their probability of them spawning for selection. This feature is completely removed.
In UCH, you could set the number of rounds. This feature is completely removed.
In UCH, you could set the length of the rounds. This feature is completely removed.

#NotMyChickenHorse Editing in a more concise review because this game absolutely disappointed me in ways I never thought possible. It really sucks to say all this because I was so excited about this game upon reveal, but like this is the most disappointed I have ever been in a product since I first saw Indiana Jones Dial of Destiny in theaters after having watched the original quadrilogy. This game isn't nearly AS awful as Dial of Destiny, not by a longshot, but it's certainly down there in terms of entertainment. The controls are hella wonky, the objects don't feel inspired and they don't even go *poof* when you select them, in the 40something minutes I played this with my friends we encountered glitches like characters clipping into the ground that you'd think would be patched out by now since this game is in its like 1.3(?) version, the characters themselves look off as hell, the levels feel sauceless, the Post-Mortem bonus deducts points from your score for whatever reason, I don't know man, I just did not have fun with this game. I really hesitate to call this game soulless, but that's honestly how I feel about this game the more I think about it. It's just soulless, especially compared to Ultimate Chicken Horse, and I'm tired of pretending it's not. I cannot stress enough that I'm not mad. I'm just severely disappointed. Editing this again because I literally JUST remembered that there were power ups. That should probably tell you how memorable that mechanic is. Just play Ultimate Chicken Horse instead.
I wasn't sure what to expect based on the reviews, but I am glad I gave it a shot because I had so much fun! The characters and overall design are cute :) It's clear that the devs are responding to the feedback because many of the things mentioned in earlier reviews appeared to have been fixed: movements felt smooth and I didn't experience game breaking bugs!! I am stoked to see what updates come next!!
It's, sadly, incomplete and boring. I REALLY wanted to like it and support it, after Ultimate Chicken Horse, you wouldn't expect the same team to miss the mark of their own previous game so hard. While comparison is the thief of joy, you need no comparisons to understand how this game should be in the design phase for at least an extra year. It has cool mechanics and good gameplay, but there is no focus on what the game wants it to be. As a sequel, you expect it to have the same level of chaos and stupid fun, but this one has a laid-back gameplay, it only focuses on who reaches the line first. At the same time, if you build a complex track, the timer leaves you no time for completing it. The perk system felt just like borrowing a mechanic from the current popular genre (roguelites / pick 1 of 3 deckbuilders), but it's very unbalanced, and you feel like upgrading in the same way every time. There are very few levels, and those feel even less unique. The level building is the biggest letdown, it seems like 9/10 items are made to make the track easier, never to make it harder. One of the key and underrated aspects of the first game is how each round gave you opportunities to build, destroy, and modify paths. So, depending on the current ranking, you have a bit of strategy involved in your next pick. This never happens here, it's very hard to flesh out a challenging level before someone wins or the round limit kicks in. It's so tuned down, you can even come back after dying. At the end, it feels uninspired, which is such a disappointing feeling to have, because everything is more well animated and well presented.
