This game sets itself up like a train-themed puzzler. Make some tracks, control the switches to make trains take one rail or the other, get them to their destination safely. Use the money you earn to expand your train network. I like it, even though I'm not a train guy. (* If you came in from Train Valley 2, see some notes at the end.) But folks, what this game actually is is Dark Souls, Train Edition. If you have ADD, that is. Ah, I am one of those people, as if you couldn't tell by reading the weird rambles of reviews I write. This isn't a hard game per se (much like I think Dark Souls is not a hard game, per se) it's just if your attention wanders at an inopportune moment, trains smack into each other and a massive chain explosion sets off. My trains explode a lot. Now, this isn't the end of a run, necessarily. Nobody rides these trains since they're apparently all made of frozen nitroglycerine, so nobody gets hurt when the inevitable explosions happen. The game makes that clear in the first 20 seconds. Buuuuut there's a reward for a perfect run. It's a game that rewards XP per level only the first time you've attained a goal, so if you're trying for perfect runs, you're gonna do it again anyway, may as well restart if your layout was decent. So I restart a lot. In a given round, trains set out from stations on a regular basis. You can send them out early, and you can even request extras. If you're looking for perfect scores, sometimes the game does things like, "Send all trains out early," or, "Request a bunch of extra trains," or "Don't stop your trains." So it's one thing to keep an eye on one train. I'm really good at that. It's another when there's four trains in the complete spaghetti-tangle of tracks you laid down, and one switch set wrong means the train is veering off elsewhere, or... oh look, explosion. Again. I think I suck at the game. And if there were a few minor changes to it, I wouldn't even mind! I'd be cheerful about it all. I'm certainly not angry about it, more... composed, really. I have accepted it is my dharma to unwittingly cause miniature trains to explode. All the same, a few things hamper my enjoyment enough that I need to write them down. Suppose I should have way up there, oh well. You're not the engineer of my train of thought, I tell you what. So there's a few bugs. The serious ones show up after extended playing; trains launching unannounced, sometimes switches stop working. Relaunching the game sorts that out. Wish I could relaunch my brain sometimes. Sometimes the rail-laying algorithm has a stroke and grinds the game to a halt for a second, when you're trying something complicated like a curve just before a tunnel. And, most of all, the UI is enormously unresponsive. It helpfully points out where you can build from, you must select one of those points alone, then drag to draw rails and release when satisfied. It doesn't always react, it doesn't always make it adequately clear when you request something impossible. I'd really, really love a blueprint where I could lay down a bunch of rails with intersections, and then commit the whole thing. I don't always have a sense as to whether those rails will merge or cross, and undoing laid rail is lossy in terms of cash. You want to avoid that. The last issue, though it's a me thing, is that there's no in-game save facility. You do the whole run in one go. Runs are under ten minutes for a gold time medal, excluding all the frequent pausing you... I do. I do. To try and keep these trains from exploding each other. If an untimely explosion ends your perfect run, there's no rolling back, just starting over. Which means you... sorry, which means I wind up laying down my ideal rail starting layout. Over. And over. If I was less dead-set on getting perfect runs this would hardly be an issue, so to a degree, this is a hell of my own devising. But, my friends, if I had a save feature, I'd've been done with this game already, perfect across all 40 missions, instead of... I think I'm on 17 or 18 right now? I shudder to think what nightmares of rail await me. Don't cry for me. I chose this life. Anyway! If trains are your jam, there's surely even more for you to like here. The train models are all cute-and-stumpy, like train-chibi. They may be modelled after real life trains, with text boxes explaining their origins and capabilities and such. XP (and those perfect runs) unlock more trains. I'm not even beating myself up for anything I can fully appreciate! So, ah, this was a journey. A train journey. On a train made of frozen nitroglycerine. I hope you enjoyed your journey, we're approaching the concluding paragraph, where I try to convince you to watch my streams and check my profile, since my stream and curator are listed there. But then I also write how I'm too punk to actually provide an URL since I hate advertising, so, you know, I think my own career is undermining myself. But at least I'm having a good time, and this game is part of it. Hopefully see you some stream soon, eh?\ * For those of you from TV 2, this is not TV 2. This is basically TV 1 with a smoother gameplay experience and a slightly different camera angle in exchange for some bugs.

A great rage train game. The core gameplay is placing tracks full of track switches that you must manually switch to get the trains to the correct destinations. Space is severly limited and normally ends in crazy spaghetti to make all destinations reachable. The fun kicks in as you buy bonus deliveries creating a juggling act of too many trains going in too many different locations. Forgetting to trigger a switch causes absolute chaos and solving your own mess under time pressure makes you feel like a train conducting wizard. However, unfortunately I can't recommend the game in its current state. I ran into gameplay breaking bugs in almost every level in the second half of the game. This included switches getting stuck in position (as if a train were still on top of them), trains getting stuck in destination stations (causing the next train to enter the station to blow up), and even a train on a bridge running into another train travelling under the bridge. These bugs often mean you'll fail mission objectives. The camera is also a big frustration. The camera angle often makes it difficult to understand the terrain, and I resorted to trial and error many times to find valid tracks through hills. More than once my track switches were also partially obsured from the camera making it challenging to both see which way the switch was going as well as difficult to change it. Overall I suggest buying Train Valley 1 instead. Same great gameplay without the bugs.
Train Valley Origins is like Train Valley 2 but without all the fun of the ressources management. It is just meaningless!
I bought it because comments said it is a chill and laidback game. Well... Turns out, it is absolutely false. You can't just build and manage things in your own pace, because you have to complete every level in a given time. The clock is ticking, literally. This is everything, but chill.
Caveat: I am a huge fan of Train Valley 2. If you were looking for more gameplay like Train Valley 2, this game does not provide it. It is a good game, BUT I don't like how it plays compared to Train Valley 2. Its gameplay is a downgrade. I bought it because I was a huge fan of TV2 so I felt let down by the gameplay. They leaned into forcing pressure onto the player (auto sheduled trains) which creates a very unfun situation where you have a train going INTO a station just as a train automatically decides to leave. Not cozy or chill, very hectic.
I like Train Valley games, both the original Train Valley formula of just directing trains from A to B, and the Train Valley 2 formula with resource management. Train Valley Origins goes back to the original Train Valley formula. It definitely had a lot of potential. Unfortunately this is a much worse experience than TV1 and TV1-like DLC of TV2. The game is full of bugs. About a quarter of levels I played, I had to restart due to a game-breaking bug. Some examples: - Deleted a track under a bridge. Track got deleted, bridge remained (visually) as expected. Except, the bridge actually got deleted, and train exploded going over it - Quite a few times the switch at intersection got stuck, so couldn't change the direction the train is going in - Train got split up with the locomotive going one way, the rest going the other. Exploded a while later. - Some tiles on some levels don't let you place tracks on them when coming from certain tiles. You can come from the other direction and lay the tracks exactly the way you intended. This is annoying for sure, but also game breaking because this might cost too much. - While not game breaking, a really annoying one is when the level starts paused, it doesn't let you start a train. You have to unpause, wait a sec, pause again, and now you can do it. - Sometimes the cost of laying tracks bugs, and wants more money than it should. If you cancel and redo the exact same layout, it takes the correct amount. Usually it's the bridges causing this bug. The UI is also very annoying. There are many needles animations, like the level up one, which take ages. Who cares? I just want to play the game, I don't need a mobile game-esque UI with needless unlocks or animations, this is a PC game. I just want puzzles. Lastly, this game was VERY easy. I got 6 stars (5 stars and no-explosion badge) on all 40 levels. I was expecting the usual TV challenge.
Train Valley 2 горазд интереснее
Train Valley Origins is a game about crashing trains and manic hustle. Got through all 40 levels and made an attempt at getting all stars unsuccessfully in 15.4 hours using a keyboard and mouse. Train Valley 1 is a work of art where you have to plan where to place tracks depending on when trains are set to leave their stations. There's a level of appreciative grind and planning involved, and the tracks come together like clockwork. Train Valley 2 is more of a resource management game where you plot out where to send trains, pick up cargo, and then where to send that cargo. Also a good game, just in a completely different way using the same assets as its predecessor. I remember there were some faults in TV2 (like where to insert tracks into stations because the stations were blocked by pixels), but overall there were fun experiences to be had. Train Valley Origins tries to combine the first two. The art vibe of 1 with the item gathering and planning around the terrain of 2. Except this time the stations and where trains need to go is randomized each playthrough. And instead of stops to gather items, you are encouraged to drive through a variant checkpoint to get the level awards. Sometimes the checkpoint will give you a bonus to your train, sometimes it'll impair your train. This provides a new level of difficulty, but at the same time sometimes makes more hectic levels pretty agonizing to get through (looking at the freeze impairment, which turns everything into a slog). Now Train Valley has details and history of the various trains you're using, and a mode where you can build your own levels! Now there are unlockables through the main game that give you stuff to do in sandbox mode! I deeply enjoyed playing Train Valley Origins. At the same time, I got really aggravated trying to get all the stars and all the achievements - mostly because of trains going slowly and the unpredictability, so gave up on that part. And I never got into sandbox mode. * - I don't know if this is general translation inconsistences, but 'deliver 8 bonus trains' for some of the star achievements confused the crap out of me.
Turns out that means hitting the + icon at the top center of the screen. I thought it meant 'go through checkpoint with bonus'.
And I couldn't figure it out without looking things up on the discussion board.
