1. Performance and technical issues Frame rate drops and stuttering during large battles. Long load times for campaigns and battles on some systems. Occasional crashes and bugs, especially around major updates. 2. AI problems Underwhelming tactical AI in some battle scenarios (poor unit micro, odd pathing). I am screaming at my screen as I stare in awe as they are moving in the most unaccepted directions. Artillery attacking a tower, by walking toward it and getting in range of said tower. Campaign AI quirks: enemies sometimes make strange strategic choices or fail to use faction strengths effectively. Siege and pathfinding issues where units get stuck or behave unintuitively. 3. Balance and design of factions Power creep and balance swings between patches; some races or legendary lords feel overpowered or underpowered at different times. Asymmetric faction design can lead to steep learning curves and perceived unfairness in multiplayer or campaign matchups. With new updates, older factions get left behind more and are not really playable unless you cheese or use of doom stacks. Neither option I find fun personally. Unit redundancy: some rosters include units that feel unnecessary or too similar to others. 4. DLC and monetization model Fragmented experience due to paid DLC, many players feel the base game is incomplete without multiple paid expansions and race packs. Perception of content gating: key features or fan-favorite factions arriving as paid add-ons rather than in the base release. Frequent paid cosmetic/content drops that some see as nickel-and-diming. 5. Campaign pacing and UI Main "story" campaigns are largely abandoned and are not any good in the first place after Immortal Empires release. Campaign pacing issues: late-game can become a slog for some factions; diplomacy and campaign systems sometimes feel repetitive. Clunky or opaque UI elements for managing certain mechanics (e.g., agent actions, diplomacy details, or late-game management). Overly complex mechanics that aren’t always well explained to new players. Loss of camera control often in campaign overview, with the camera wildly scrolling in between turns, and sometimes not returning to where it was. 6. Mod support and community expectations Reliance on mods to fix or improve certain features; while the mod scene is strong, some players resent needing mods to get a polished experience. Inconsistent official support for mod compatibility after updates. 7. Visual and audio complaints (minor but recurring) Reused assets and animations across units/factions leading to less visual variety than expected. Audio repetition: some voice lines and music loops can feel repetitive over long campaigns. None of these complaints are new. They have been around sometimes for years. I used to love the Total War series. Now I hate it.
very disappointed about how much content is locked behind DLC. this has not made me hopeful for wh40k total war. the fact this game was even £55 for about 20% of the game is insulting at least make it 80% of the game
Overpriced Garbage
Don't buy this game unless you wanna spend a ridiculous amount on dlcs. Very few factions are actually playable as humans, and the ones that are, are usually just regular humans in a fantasy world. I played the prologue first so my refund was denied whenever I realized EVERYTHING is locked behind a paywall. If you really wanna play total war, stick to the older titles.
Expecting you to "own"/buy the previous titles to to access base game content, is a whole different level of corporate greed.
Got this for $8. Still feels like I'm getting ripped off. Like they wanted me to get my foot in the door so I spend money on their overpriced DLC's. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy that some people paid $60 on release for half a game. Reminder to self: You aren't having fun. You never buy DLC's, so no point in buying games from this company. Most of your hours are you trying to justify your purchase. Go spend that money on an indie game.
Hail Karl Franz, the Elector Count of Altdorf and the rightful Emperor of the Old World! He stands as a towering beacon of hope against the gathering darkness. Armed with the legendary warhammer Ghal Maraz and riding atop his majestic griffon Deathclaw, he leads his armies with unmatched courage. He is not merely a ruler by blood, but a true protector of his people. His wisdom guides the Empire through its darkest hours, and his fierce determination unites divided provinces. Under his glorious reign, the forces of order find their ultimate champion I don't fancy fantasy a lot, but this game rocks!
I am not super familiar with Warhammer, but I started a campaign on normal/normal, played as the dwarves, took the first province, upgraded its keep or whatever they're called and prepared to defend from a fresh war declaration. Seems good so far. The attacking army is absurdly strong. It's single stack vs my full stack + keep defenders says the best I can expect is a total defeat. Okay. Definitely not an auto-resolve battle. I decide to try it on the battlefield. The game gives me a mountainous field WITH THE ENEMY ARMY IN A FENCED CAMP ON A MASSIVE MOUNTAIN and me, "the defenders of the upgraded keep", STANDING IN A RAVINE. I managed a valiant defeat, lost everything, and decided that TURN 11 was not worth continuing the "normal difficulty" campaign. Souls-like Total War lol. Thread the needle while the tutorial windows keep irritating you or start over. I was hoping for some fun, but being stomped by a massive military on turn 11, while defending my upgraded snowfield from hordes running down an advantageous mountain spawn... That's going to be a no. I would give the game another try, but I googled it and CA made this change intentionally. Castles giving you zero advantage is the design decision. I have literally over a thousand other games to play that at least make sense in their own lore/world design. Also, I guess I am just not familiar with modern Total War either since I have thousands of hours in Rome II and earlier games, but relatively little since they started their garbage corpo practices. Are all their newer games $200+?
I bought the game and some DLCs. But to use the lord from the DLC, I need to buy WH2. FU CA SEGA!
being a fat green man is way too fun
