Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 4.29/day in the week to Aug 16 → 5.86/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 19: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Crashed before the start of every battle
Rome 2 has 33 GB (or at least it's what Steam says) and this has 42 GB. The game is nostalgic, the music is great and reminds me of better days when I was young and couldn't even afford a game or a PC. The new changes to the game don't really help, the notifications were better on the old version. The graphics isn't there, just a facelift, it makes no sense when you have Rome 2 out there, this isn't like Gothic 1 and 2 for example. The only good thing about the older Rome 1 is the population and how you recruit units, but that's attainable in other games with mods if it isn't there already. The gameplay isn't changed, you steamroll enemies with "heavy cavalry" that is only heavy if the bones of the horses are heavy, even the units on top of them seem like light infantry, my roman general with 34 horses has destroyed 3-4 enemy attacks. After playing much better titles from Total War it's hard to even enjoy this at all, people saying that in the old game it took longer to fight clearly don't know how to fight I guess, while low tier peltasts or archers hold my cavalry charge like they are heavy infantry in a blob, when they start to break slowly they just vanish without even "running them down", my hoplite mercenary broke ranks and lost to their general (cavalry) in a frontal attack just because their infantry slightly engaged me beforehand so their pikes being down was irrelevant. While the enemy hoplite unit at the back managed to reform instantly and put their pikes down while flanked and charged by my own general making 2-3 of my horses to die before I pulled out. Which provides another issue I have with this game, every pathetic low level hoplite unit has phalanx form, which was fixed in Rome 2 where you could tighten ranks and fight in formation but you didn't magically just have long spears (I forgot the name) appear on every unit that kinda has anything to do with Alexander. If you really want this game, don't have the original non-remastered, if you have a higher tolerance and patience, if you don't really care for improved graphics and more realistic battles, the game is still worth it. If you disagree idk what game you played or what Rome 2 you played, the game just doesn't hold up today, maybe I'm spoiled but I prefer when my heavy cavalry that looks heavy charges into unarmored archers of the lowest tier, they all get destroyed and they fall to their deaths. Not having heavy elephants trample them and they just "get back up", which is an exaggeration but it happens with stronger units with "2 health" which is another feature I detest but I won't go into a bigger rant than I already have.
I've been playing this game since 2008 and to this day it's one of the best games i have ever played
Hate the UI
fix the bloody camera damn it, the *classic* camera is better than the remastered camera. seriously, an FPS-style camera in an RTS game? literally unusable
How is it possible this takes up almost twice the space that Rome 2 does and still has its original graphics with a few visual upgrades... I thoroughly enjoyed the original, had hundreds of hours of gameplay in it and I don't even mind the older graphics. But for it to be this process-power consuming and it hasn't even got it's pathing problems fixed, I really can't say I recommend this game. I tried a few siege battles in the early game and I can't fathom what it is like in massive battles. It's glitchy, units get stuck all the time, infantry won't use their ranged weapons... All in all I had a short and disappointing journey on this remake. I thought the remake would improve the units cards and overall GUI visibility... but as many here stated, the GUI is just... terrible. Visibility is bad, I don't know what I have selected, it is hard to see whether units are fighting, running, using missiles... Everything is just downgraded from the original. Same with the map GUI, where everything was neat and easily accessible, it is now hidden inside sub-menus and such. I don't think a lot of thought process was put into the GUI since the most used actions on the map need to be searched for inside sub-menus... It really drops the overall experience... A shame really... I would probably recommend going for Rome 2 instead, since it is a much smoother running game...
