About
“A surreal journey into the afterlife. Can you survive the Thousand Hells?”
Four heroes risk their body and mind as they descend into the underworlds. Thousand Hells is a tactical narrative game where your choices determine your fate and change your party forever. Assemble a team that can handle the physical and mental trials of hell, or at least the demons, guardians, and gods in the one you’re visiting today.
In the underworlds, you and your team must fulfill your contract with the mysterious Ambassador, which changes with every mission. Planning helps, but no job ever goes according to plan...

Customize your character and build a party with unique skills and traits.
Dynamic Narrative Encounters: Choose the best option and use your party’s skills to advance with your body and mind intact.
Life or Death Choices: Multiple paths for every encounter. Take a risk for big payoffs or play it safe to keep your party healthy?
Highly Replayable: Create a new unique quest or retry failed missions. Your cast of helpers changes each time.
Experience Every Underworld: Whether you’re following in Orpheus’s footsteps to rescue a loved one or save the Eternal City from an insect plague, the underworld you visit and how you tackle its challenges will change the way the story plays out.
An anthology of mythic journeys imagined by 8 different writers, with hundreds of hand-painted illustrations.

Every heist needs a team but not all heroes get along! Before setting out you need to gather a party of skilled adventurers. Each hero has a profession and a unique set of skills. Make sure to choose a variety of skills and personalities so you’ll be ready no matter what comes crawling out...

The evil below has many weaknesses, your choices will affect your chances at surviving. Use the strengths of your party in over 280 unique dynamic narrative encounters. Skills will change depending on your team’s successes and failures. Avoid combat by sending your bard to calm the nerves of bandits. Hire a demonologist to communicate with a possessed book. Take the risk and reap the rewards, otherwise you’ll end up with a broken arm, or worse.

Thousand Hells is highly replayable, creating a new unique quest or letting you retry a failed mission. Your cast of helpers is different each time. One run takes about an hour, but automatic saving and a synopsis of the story so far lets you play when you only have a few minutes.

You reside in the Eternal City, a Byzantine-flavored fantasy world where untold demons lurk below your feet, with riches ready for the taking, if you dare. A client hires you for one last job, but you’ll need the right team to pull it off.
Thousand Hells takes place in a stand-alone fantasy world from the designers of King of Dragon Pass and the Six Ages series. This anthology narrative was pulled from the minds of 8 different writers such as Robin D. Laws and Aaron A. Reed and is supplemented by gorgeous hand-painted illustrations. Each hell is distinct, with its own palette and idiosyncratic threats to survive. No generative AI was used in the making of this game.

so far, its been fun! really compelling story hooks, beautiful art, interesting characters. bc the heists are so short, it makes me play trying to make a good story versus play to win at all costs. honestly the brevity of the stories is so nice. its good that the heists are short bc if they werent, i'd be tearing my hair out about the RNG in this game. your rolls' outcomes are heavily determined by random chance, and sometimes its slightly annoying, but also it forces you to not get too attached. these ppl are hell-farers after all, they've made their choices.

if you like adventure games this is as close to an automated RPG quest module you could get to.
Nice plot twists. Very compelling crisis system. I like it
love david games i got 126 hours from six ages and 86 from light going out, also love this game the devilery quest is really fun and creative i got emotional at the end, i wish we could play as the same character again.
This game is amazing. If you know the other games of A Sharp studio ( King of the Dragon Pass, Six Ages ) you'll feel like home. But compared to most/all other games it's refreshingly unique. The only thing that I don't really like is that there's no meta progression "career mode" - each session is a new character so whatever choices you make matter only for this session alone.
Very nice, choose your own adventure kind of game with a suprisingly original and fun system for the resolution of events. The simili-rogue like architecture with missions / sessions of 2-3 hours is also a refreshing change for a narrative game.
could be your favourite systems designer's systems design of 2026
After my first run, I gotta say, this game is gonna be great fun to play with some friends to help narrate events. I like the uncertainty of outcomes, the dialog and plot seem well-written and put together, and I liked the characters, despite their randomness (or maybe due to it). I do love a good choose-your-own-adventure roguelike!
Sort of a 'heroquest simulator', if you've played some of A-Sharp's other games. A roguelike about journeying into random hells for random quests and storylines, with a lot of events and challenges that remind me particularly of some of the stuff that can happen in the most recent Six Ages game. Technically qualifies as a Roguelike Deckbuilder even, since you assemble a 'deck' of cards to play by selecting your crew. And like those sorts of games, it pays to be very careful about what exactly you're letting into the deck. Have played two runs so far: the first almost succeeded but failed at the final hurdle while the second was an almost-total victory. My biggest tip to people so far would be to use the hell out of the Insight mechanic. Not just to see what card is good for the *current* challenge but then to observe and remember the values it shows you. But there's another reason I called this a Heroquest Simulator: it's hard, it's rough and sometimes you just gotta do the thing that sucks rather than risk taking another chance. Sleep under the flowers! What's the worst that could happen? I hope they continue to support this with additional storyline/quests and possibly even additional Hells in the future. I have not yet come even close to seeing everything already included in it but I worry that the content might become repetitive in the future.
