Game itself is fine with a decent story however, The later chapters seem to fall off hard and seems so rushed compared to the earlier chapters These issues range from: A major story side character
Bani
is just completely dropped from the story with no real conclusion to their arc nor logical sense as to what they would even do on their own.
It's already established early on that they straight up have no where else to go and stick with 4 and Noma due to that
One of the later story chapters is so weak with the amount of exposition
I believe it's in Chapter 8 when Oldritch talks about the original timeline. I genuinely don't think we needed 45+ minutes going on about how in this alternate timeline everyone gets blown up. It's already clear whatever happened in the future is bad, I don't really need a buildup explaining how the United Nations was established and how state borders in this version were made because it just isn't related to the objective or goal of our protagonists.
which just seemed to contribute little to nothing for the story. The tag choose your own adventure seems misleading to me because there isn't really a lot of "choices", or at the very least major ones with the exception of the final one. I've only played the game once so I'm not exactly sure if there's more than 3 possible endings out of the 1 I got, but from what I played it didn't really leave a impression that my choices would affect how the story would develop. As I said however for this point this is from my impression after obtaining only one ending so I may be wrong. Finally, the ending that I got left me wanting more but not in a good way. It's in a way where a lot of the stuff felt incomplete down to the main objective of our characters.
The entire premise of the story is the 4 and Noma are off to kill the big bad vampire Victor, but from the Farewell, Old World! ending this just straight up never happens. I don't know if this is the best ending but it does feel like it's supposed to be a good ending as it displays a text that there'll eventually be a epilogue for the two. It's just that in that ending, Noma and 4's goal of killing Victory is never accomplished. It's just a fade to black explaining his plans are exposed and it's left at that. I was expecting there to be at least another chapter or two after, but I was pretty bummed out at the fact that they left it there.
While the ending does complete the character arc for one of the main protagonists, it never resolved the whole point of the adventure. For a personal thing the 3D assets do more harm than good and break my immersion. When it comes to the background and character art which are drawn, they're extremely well done. However, it's super noticeable when they aren't hand drawn and look extremely out of place.
Early on you meet a character called Old Moe (or something along those line) and you can clearly tell it wasn't hand drawn. The more immersion shattering examples would be in a later chapters where VOIZ bombs the capital and they're just flying out F4U corsairs, not even any of the sigils or anything that would denote them as "magic", just bare bone stock F4U corsairs like it's the Pacific War.
I do understand that this is only a $10 game made by a small developer/team which is why I don't necessarily believe the 3D asset and negative aspects of the story would result in a negative review. It's just something that stuck in my head while I was playing. For all the bad stuff I did enjoy the story for what it was and I think it's still worth a try.
So far, great game. There are certainly moments with typos or other mistakes but nothing that you wont figure out what its supposed to mean after reading the entire sentence once. Excited to see where this goes.
