This game provided no instructions at all from the start. I looked in every cabinet and note and I could not continue on to whatever was next. I think it might have potential IF they provide some instructions or help. How the game is now, I do not recommend it
Played it! Stuck in the beginning of the game for over 45 minutes. Explored the whole house. Opened every drawer in the house. Inspected picture and all letters but nothing happened. Couldn't progress. Uninstalled!
dont ever develop a game in yore life ever again please
~ok devs I for real need an explanation!!!!!~ I REALLY Wanted to Like This Game… But I Spent 70+ Minutes Trapped in the FIRST TASK I was genuinely excited to play The Unfamiliars. I had this game picked out specifically for a spooky stream because I thought it would be perfect. New horror game, creepy atmosphere, probably a bunch of jump scares, and hopefully a few moments of me absolutely losing my mind live on stream. So I booted up the stream excited, ready for a great night, launched the game, and started playing. Then I got to the FIRST TASK OF THE GAME. Find the documents/clues hidden throughout the drawers and rooms of the house so you can collect the lore and figure out what is going on. Okay. Easy enough. WRONG. I spent 61 MINUTES walking around this approximately 2,200–2,400 square-foot house, clicking on EVERY. SINGLE. POSSIBLE. THING. Every drawer. Every cabinet. Every table. Every desk. Every room. Every corner. Every suspicious object. Every piece of furniture that looked remotely interactable. And I didn't just search the house once. I SEARCHED THE ENTIRE FREAKING HOUSE THREE FREEEEEEAAAAKKKING TIMES. At this point, I was having a full-blown mental breakdown trying to figure out what in the world I was supposed to be missing. Was there another drawer? Was there a hidden interaction? Was I supposed to click something in a specific order? Was there some microscopic piece of paper tucked behind a lamp? Did I somehow miss the most obvious object in gaming history? After almost an hour of walking through the same house like an unpaid home inspector, I finally gave up and pulled up KingWoolz's YouTube playthrough because I needed to know what I was doing wrong. And that's when things got even more frustrating. I watched his playthrough and realized: I HAD ALREADY FOUND EVERYTHING HE FOUND. Actually, somehow, I FOUND EVEN MORE THAN HE DID. I found the poopy rag under the bed. I found the note in the kitchen drawer. I found the papers on the desk. I found the Pills on the night stand. i found the picture in the drawer. i found the note in the diary. I found the lore. I clicked everything I could possibly find. But somehow, when HE picked up the paper on the desk, it triggered an announcement on the TV, which then allowed him to continue progressing through the game. Meanwhile, I had already picked up that SAME paper, along with everything else, and my TV apparently decided: "Nah, Goober lives here now." No announcement. No trigger. No progression. Nothing. ?????????????????? So after discovering this—and after a classic Goober freak-out live on stream—I decided maybe the game had just bugged out. Fine. Games have bugs. It happens. I figured I'd give it another chance. I uninstalled/redownloaded the game and decided I would try again the next day. THE NEXT DAY: I launch the game again. I go through the house again. I find the clues again. I collect the lore again. I find the items that are apparently supposed to trigger the TV announcement again. And... NOTHING. AGAIN. I spent ANOTHER 20+ MINUTES clicking on absolutely EVERYTHING. And when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING. At this point, if the game would've allowed me to click individual pieces of dust on the floor, I WOULD HAVE CLICKED THE DUST. Still no TV announcement. Still no progression. Still stuck on what is basically the introductory objective of the game. So after two separate attempts, a reinstall/redownload, multiple complete searches of the house, watching another person's playthrough to confirm what was supposed to happen, AND confirming that I had collected the same required items—and even additional ones—the game still refused to trigger whatever event is supposed to allow me to continue. The game officially dookied on my chest and told me I was not allowed to progress. I haven't even gotten far enough into the game to give the horror, story, jump scares, atmosphere, or actual gameplay a fair review because I CAN'T GET PAST THE FIRST FREAKING TASK. That's what makes this so frustrating. I WANTED TO PLAY YOUR GAME. I specifically chose it for a stream. I was excited about it. I gave it another chance the following day instead of immediately refunding it. I even watched somebody else's playthrough to make absolutely sure this wasn't just me being an idiot and missing something obvious. At this point, I would genuinely love for one of the developers to explain what exactly is supposed to trigger that TV announcement and why it apparently refused to trigger during TWO separate attempts. Because before I hit the refund button, I need to know: WHY DID I JUST SPEND 70+ MINUTES OF MY LIFE WALKING AROUND THE SAME SMALL HOUSE CLICKING DRAWERS IN YOUR SILLY LITTLE GAME?! If I'm somehow missing something, PLEASE tell me. If this is a bug, PLEASE fix it. Because I genuinely wanted to enjoy The Unfamiliars, but right now my scariest experience with the game wasn't a ghost, monster, or jump scare. It was realizing I had to search the same freaking house for the fourth time.
Very interesting story about loss and regret. 8/10 on the pear scale.
I said it once and i'll say it again love the jumpscares! Mixo does such a great job of mixing it up and its so refreshing! the story was very good i love a good story! There were a few bugs but i played it on launch and the dev fixed them very fast and if you played day of released i recommend trying it again! if you do manage to encounter another Bug please post in the discussion section I'm sure the dev will fix it! i say give it a try if you are a fan of horror and Short story! i will edit this review with a highlighted video when i posted it to my YouTube! -MrFrumps!
Just what I wanted. I nice creepy game with interesting puzzles and some good jumpscares.
its cool, thats all ill say 😉 (edit: CaseOh sorry youre bad at the game 😂)
This game was GAS!! There was a bug when first playing where it wouldnt play the emergency broadcast to progress but i restarted and had no other issues. The keys are a little hard to notice. The atmosphere, graphics, storyline, the reveal. the jumpscares were all 10/10.
