How it ran was the scariest part of the incoherent asset flip of a story.

The Trench is a short World War I horror game that I found surprisingly atmospheric for such a small experience. I play as a soldier who returns to the trench where he was stationed after the war, only to find himself facing the memories and events that happened there. The basic idea is less about fighting a war and more about exploring the remains of one and trying to understand what happened. I liked that approach because it gives the setting a much more personal and unsettling feeling. Most of the gameplay revolves around exploration. I move through the trench, look around for things that seem out of place, move boxes and read notes that gradually reveal more of the story. There is no complicated combat system or huge collection of weapons to worry about, so I can concentrate on the environment and the mystery. I actually think that works well here because the quiet moments give me time to take in the surroundings before something disturbing happens. The notes are particularly important because they give me pieces of information about the events that took place in the trench. I enjoyed searching around rather than simply following a straightforward path, since finding another note can make me look at an area differently. The story is deliberately mysterious, and I liked having to slowly work out what the soldier is remembering and what the trench represents to him. It has more of a psychological horror feeling than a traditional monster focused game. The atmosphere is probably the strongest part of The Trench. The narrow passageways, ruined surroundings and general emptiness create a very uncomfortable feeling, especially when I am walking through an area that looks like it should have been abandoned long ago. The World War I setting also makes the horror feel different from the usual haunted house or laboratory setting. There is already something disturbing about being surrounded by the remains of a battlefield, and the game builds on that with its darker events and unsettling discoveries. My biggest issue is that the game is very short and quite linear. I reached the end before I felt like I had really explored everything the setting could offer. I think there was potential for more areas, more environmental storytelling and a longer mystery surrounding the soldier's past. Some of the story ideas are interesting enough that I wanted the game to spend more time developing them instead of moving toward the conclusion so quickly. The presentation also has some rough edges that are noticeable. The gameplay is extremely simple, and there are moments where it feels more like a walking simulator than a traditional horror game. That will not be a problem for me when the atmosphere is working, but it does mean there is not much variety once I understand the basic structure. Still, I appreciate that the game keeps its focus on exploration and story instead of adding unnecessary mechanics just to make it longer. Overall, I think The Trench is a decent little psychological horror experience with a strong atmosphere and an interesting World War I setting. I liked exploring the abandoned trench, reading the notes and gradually uncovering what happened there. It is definitely too short and could have used more depth, but the combination of historical surroundings and psychological horror gives it a distinctive identity. For a free game, I think it is worth trying if I want something short, atmospheric and focused more on mystery than action. Rating: 6.6/10
Solo quiero irme a casa. 5/10 PD: Demasiadas faltas de ortografia. Kisses
just walked around. the only scary thing about the game was the lightning sounds.
Пойдёт на разок, очень не оптимизирована и не понятна.
A pointless walking sim with no scares and at one point my character started walking very slowly and would not speed up again, this just killed the game for me.
