A bit hard sometimes, but very cute! I enjoyed it :)
The two things you'll be doing most in this game are battling, and reading dialogue. One the developer nailed and the other... not so much. Unfortunately, it's the narrative that falls short. The plot in the game gets so pointless and convoluted by the end that it ends up ruining everything else, like the cool battle system, which was a blast besides the few hiccups here and there. The Outbound Ghost Pros & Cons Pros : - Artstyle ( looks so good, think paper Mario plus modern-day postprocessing) - Soundtrack - The battle system - The battles are super fun and addictive It's easy like Pokemon but gets harder over time forcing you to swap out movesets and party members. It's not perfect ( we will get to that), but it works. - The cool mimic ability where you can turn into any figment even unique Boss figments! (Figments are your party members equivalent to the pokemon in poke...) The stun mechanic is really satisfying. The more you attack a certain enemy, their stun meter fills. Once it's maxed out, the enemy becomes stunned and cannot attack. Cons : - Confusing Menu UI - No Block mechanic. Weird decision to me as the combat is based on paper Mario timed attacks but there is no way to block. -The main character is boring and him being a silent protagonist doesn't help. - Figments are randomly given to you with no connection to the story or explanation, you'll just be walking around and a popup will come outta nowhere. - Leveling is not balanced. Some of the enemies will randomly have insanely high HP. There were a few battles I had to play several times, as they were nearly impossible to beat until you equip certain figments with certain moves and get lucky with a critical hit or something. - The story just keeps getting more confusing as the game goes on. - 20 hours into the game and you still won't have any developments on the main mystery of the plot. It makes you feel like you're not making any progress. As soon as a revelation is about to be said something happens in the game that cuts it off as if things need to be dragged out any longer. Enemies will attack dead battlers in battle. I think the programmer left that in by mistake, but it feels unfair when playing. - The ending was pretty bad. It jumps around in between different character's points of views in a confusing way and then ends on a cliffhanger (ish) that wasn't surprising or good. - There is no resolution to all the questions surrounding the mystery of the serial killer that the game has been building up. One of the worst endings in video games ever! So yeah, good game with a lot of potential destroyed by its story elements. Can only recommend if you don't mind the bad writing and unpolished side of the battles. Buy on sale.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Don't buy this game. There is a lot of charm, but there are so many issues weighing it down, and they are likely to never be addressed. There was an issue between the dev and publisher, and that has left the game in a permanent state of limbo. If the game were perfect out the gate, it wouldn't matter, but sadly that isn't the case. Combat is wonky, and I cannot find a better descriptor than that. From my own (minimal) play, as well as watching some vids, it just has so many issues and oddities. Game is buggy, and will probably never get a patch. Art direction gets an A-. Music/Audio is straight up A++ S-tier. Story is a C, although it is harder to judge this as I did not beat the game myself. Gameplay gets a B. It's fine, perfectly average. Combat gets a D. I mentioned above, but the combat is just wonky with so many issues you could write an essay on the strange design choices and how they impact overall balance and feel. I want to recommend this game as another banger paper-verse release, but it is not. I suggest Bug Fables and Born of Bread instead, as they are both excellent, with Bug Fables just barely taking the top spot for me.
My review plus some info about the sequel / "Reborn Edition." Oh yeah! Thank goodness they fixed all their legal problems and fixed this this game! I just played for almost 20 hours straight and LOVED it. I wish they could have gotten rid of all the old reviews about the older version tarnishing this little fun pearl that kept me from trying it. Yes, it isn't quite Paper Mario, but it is Paper-Mario-like and a fun story. I had a great time with every second of exploration and trying to 100% the achievements (and succeeding). The game lets you make it as difficult or easy for yourself as you'd like with very user-friendly settings that won't affect your ability to gain the achievements. I ran into one glitch where I got stuck in some boxes while exploring a map thoroughly for secrets and had to back to a saved position. Thankfully, save spots (campfires) are EVERYWHERE, and I'm a save freak. Your POV does jump to a couple of different characters, which fills in the gaps of the mystery of the storyline. For such a cute game, this game is super-dark. Spoiler:
(A big part of the game is that you're trying to solve how a whole town got murdered.)
THE FUTURE: I am looking forward to playing the "sequel" which has been announced (originally for 2025). I put "sequel" in quotes because it looks like it is almost the same map and graphics with a different storyline / "timeline" and some new characters. It is called "Outbound Ghost: Reborn" or some places it's called "Outbound Ghost: Reborn EDITION" in some of the artwork. Because of so much of it being similar, the developer announced "The Outbound Ghost: Reborn will be entirely free to you if you own the original The Outbound Ghost game on Steam before the new game comes out in 2025. Purchase The Outbound Ghost now and get two full adventures for the price of one!" Looking at the gameplay videos, it looks VERY similar, but some of the characters and enemies look different. It is also mentioned that you'll get to know your Figments, use the train, and there will be new areas. Oh, and it ties in with the game "Soul Stalker."
There are a lot of things wrong with this game. I feel that a solid summary of this game would be that it's half-baked and needs more time to cook. The mechanics aren't fully thought out, the pacing of the story (especially after chapter 2) sucks, and every puzzle is brain-dead easy. Mechanics: After obtaining the abilities like digging, lighting torches, or breaking walls, you sparingly get to use them. instead of spreading out the usage of the abilities throughout the game, you only get to meaningfully use the abilities in the same chapter that you obtained them. Using the map is just as difficult as using an actual map. Plus, there's no indication of where you are, besides the name of the general zone you are in. I also felt that the party members had too many abilities, with multiple members having the same abilities. making them feel completely replaceable and oftentimes unbalanced. Story: The story sucks. The entire goal of the game is to catch up to a dude running away from you because you give him headaches and look scary. You start the game by naming your character. This becomes completely irrelevant later. Because the character you name already has a name. You also only spend one chapter as that character, swapping to another character after every chapter. And every single one of them is annoying and 2 dimensional. In the last chapter, you have to rewatch countless cutscenes of the same ♥♥♥♥ you’ve already watched. It was absurd and could’ve been completely cut out. Puzzles: So there’s a lockpicking mechanic in this game used to unlock gates, it consists of block-sliding puzzles, and it could’ve been fun. I actually like those kinds of puzzles. HOWEVER! There are fewer than 5 gates that can be picked, the rest use keys with no puzzle to solve, and you are forced to use a key. The gates that have puzzles are not difficult. The hardest puzzle only requires three blockers to be moved. It’s so stupid that I ended the game with 43 lockpicks. This game at its best is a 4/10 (all four of those points are for the combat, which was actually my favorite part of this game)
I love this game. I know that it had its problems with the lawsuit, but those are over. This game is original. The story on great so far. I actually love the writing, the battles (on the hardest difficulty) require thought and inginuity. Dev, thank you for sticking with this game through the lawsuit and updating it to get through the issues from before. I really look forward to the sequel even though I'm not done with this one yet. Great work.
Entretenido aunque le falto pulir un poco más
Game is pretty great and visually appealing. I'm so happy for Conradical Games to get the game back under their wings entirely after their dev screwed them over. I cannot wait for the sequel.
excited for the new version, glad the dev is back.
The game is great and the developer is a total chad - glad to see them moving forward positively. Wishing them the best!
