The Night Gym

Reviewing this game is going to make me look and sound like a complete and utter psychopath. Let me be clear, this game is beyond terrible in nearly every single way. Very poor English, practically nonexistent story, horrible gameplay, borderline unplayably buggy with controls that would make even the most skilled player weep. There is almost nothing good present in this game whatsoever. Abandon hope all ye who enter here, etc. But in spite of that [i]Night Gym[/i] is one of the few games I have played that is genuinely "so bad it's good" in a way that is hard for video games to accomplish compared to movies - and for that, it's honestly worth a dollar; particularly if you have friends willing to watch and laugh with you. When you hear the title, what exactly do you think you're going to get? Whatever you're thinking, you're wrong. You get a game with godawful button prompt minigames that barely work, you get laughably repetitive and loud grunting sound effects, you get a gigajacked skeleton man pumping iron in the dark, peeping on you in the shower, and chilling in the hot tub like a spurned homoerotic lover, and you get to perform the revolutionary new exercise known as "Drink-Ups"- which is where your protein shake drink button glitches out and merges with your pull-up button prompt so that you drink and pull in tandem like the thirstiest and least safety-conscious bodybuilder of all time. There is a brief moment where the game almost gets interesting and I thought it was leading to an interesting plot twist about your main character, but that was not the case at all and instead you find that the buff skeleton has placed his skull head over the head of a guy on the signage like a low-effort chad meme and you get chased by him as he screams specifically into your left ear before you leave the titular Night Gym and drive away, never to return to a gym at night again - and never to return to this ridiculous game. ...And I loved it. I laughed harder than I've laughed all year. For the love of god, if you love playing trash games, you will love Night Gym. It's pretty short, but so are most guys at the gym so it's fine.

game is very broken. I could press ; to access some kind of debug mode at any time. game stop progressing past a certain point. I seemed to have skipped past needing a key by just clicking e on a door a 2nd time.

game is a short but intense horror game that turns an ordinary gym into a nightmare. The VHS style visuals, dark atmosphere, and creepy sounds create constant tension. Exploring the empty gym at night feels unsettling, and the unexpected moments really keep you on edge. A great choice if you enjoy atmospheric indie horror experiences.

Definitely fun to playthrough! The atmosphere of the game was creepy kept you on your toes, especially the second half! I hope there's an update soon on the action text. Overall, a must have for your Fireplay Studio collection!
