About
The Message from Deep Space is an odyssey of puzzles. Take the role of the mission's Translator, working alongside a scrappy band of scientists, and venture headfirst into the world of deciphering an alien language --- completely from the ground up.
Set in 1973, Earth is the recipient of a meteorite that broadcasts radio waves. In the role of the mission's Translator, the player is responsible for designing responses to the meteorite's transmissions, which, if correct, will elicit new messages from the meteorite. Only through this radio wave dialogue will patterns, words, syntax, and meaning all take form, leaving but one question:
What is it the aliens want to say?
Translate an alien language
Learn about an alien civilization

Inspired by The Golden Record aboard the Voyager I space probe, The Message from Deep Space takes a realistic approach to deciphering an interstellar message. Beginning with the limited universal constants available to technologically advanced civilizations, the message spans a range of real-world fields of math & science. Decoding the message is tough, but with the support of the game's meticulous linguist, the single-minded computer programmer, and the affable astronomer, it is a challenge fit for anyone with Curiosity and Perseverance.

Alan needs shbau in act 4, I'm sick of this dialogue in this section only
Incredible work of art and writing, one of the most immersive and engaging games I've played in a while. I saw people recommend it for fans of Outer Wilds and Project Hail Mary and I'd agree with that. Probably requires some interest in math/physics/chemistry/linguistics to enjoy. You translate some alien communication, starting from counting numbers to
learning about their life philosophies, morals, society, biology
. The last quarter gets pretty tough as you translate concepts that don't really map to human concepts (which helps with the immersion actually), so I wasn't as confident in my translations, but the ending made it all worth it. It's pretty cool that you end up being fluent in a language whose vocabulary you defined yourself from scratch.

very good. It can get a bit dry at times but it's quite rewarding!
Lots of geometry. I hate geometry. I power through because the game keeps giving me cool crumbles of discovery here and there. Like a desiccated raccoon scrounging for morsels of leftovers in a sanitized suburb, I feel like I'm not welcome. But I find sustenance occasionally.
math
I am a graduate student in theoretical chemistry. The game does have some genuinely creative concepts, but it doesn’t adhere all that closely to the mathematics and science it draws on. As someone in the field, there were quite a few moments that honestly got on my nerves. For example, if Bautista had arbitrarily performed the recalibration for us in advance, that would imply that he had been communicating with them much earlier than we had. Hiding that fact from us would essentially amount to a research ethics violation—he would have been withholding relevant data. Or there’s the fact that, at some point, all fractional values somehow start being represented in a way that conveniently assumes our base-10 number system, simply because that’s what our UI uses... I understand that maintaining perfect scientific and mathematical accuracy throughout the game may have been difficult. Still, given how heavily the game sells itself on this particular concept, I found the execution rather disappointing compared with what I had expected.
It makes doing maths fun! Also I live with and am a scientist so bonus points for making me feel smart.
I'm enjoying the game a lot, and so I can't leave a "No" review.... but MY GOODNESS your coworkers' dialogue in this game is annoying!! I've never wished that game characters would just SHUT UP so much before in my life. I've never fantasized about killing game characters before. I've never minimized a game while I'm playing it so that I could come and write a review about how much I hate the characters' dialogue before in my life.
