About

You wake up as a ghost, with no memory of who you were or how you died. The only clue to your past is the empty suit of armour you now possess.
As you explore an abandoned castle and piece together your memories, you’ll uncover your tale: A tale of broken promises, regret, and bonds that last beyond death.
But your story doesn’t have to die with you.

The Last Winter Knight is an atmospheric Gothic visual novel that features:
A melancholy story where you play as a ghostly knight haunting a suit of armour, featuring over 100k words.
Point and click segments that let you explore a lonely castle.*
Hand-drawn artwork that captures a dark fairy tale feel.
A pensive piano soundtrack that subtly shifts depending on where and what you examine.
Multiple endings to uncover: Will you remained trapped in your armour, or finally find peace?

The Last Winter Knight is 100% human made – mostly by one human, a solo developer who painted each frame, recorded and edited every track, typed every line of code and constantly agonised over word choices. Thank you so much for checking out this game and huge labour of love!
A special thank you to the people who helped make this project possible:
Wanpans Armoury for providing armour foley, playtesting and acting as a consultant for medieval arms, armour and general knowledge. There are many, many breaks from reality in this fantasy game, none of which are their fault.
Cobaye and Sammy L. for playtesting and moral support.
ArcanaXIX for the haunting cello performances.
n3ur0515 (Neur) for editing the trailer.
Jason Cura for additional last-minute audio assistance.
And friends and family and for their support.

MASTERPIECE. Think of the most beautiful, haunting, tragic story ever, amazing soundtrack and stunning art. The story has left me crying, tears of joy and sadness alike, its raw, its overwhelming, its emotionally torturous. Only the best stories can do what this one also achieves. It seriously left me gasping for breath. I loved it from the very first minute I played, best money Ive ever spent. I love the devs, love those behind the art and music. The game was made with true passion, I adore it and wish I could play for the first time again.
What a beautiful and heart-wrenching experience this game was, still can't fully believe that this was made by a solo developer. Bravo!
I absolutely love the games this creator makes! There's just something about the art style and the stories that are so immersive! First off, the soundtrack is beautiful and the sound is very fitting for the type of melancholy storytelling this game has. I really love the interactivity of the point and click. It would have been simple enough for them to have just told a story but they didn't. Their selection of things to click ranged from room exploration to scenes where a single object was the focus point of the scene, I liked that variety as well as the frost on the screen being removed when all has been explored. They mystery aspect of the story was done well too, It wasn't so obvious that you figured out the whole mystery within 10 minutes of the game but they gave you enough each time to make you keep speculating and growing theories and I absolutely loved that! Maybe it's the combination of the music, words, and imagery but the way this game is put together just makes the story feel very deep and meaningful. At this time I have already played the demo and have no doubt the full game will further improve my impression of this game.
"But the past does not care for what you'd like to be true."
A bittersweet, tragic, painful, and at times gruesome tale of regrets, suffering, vengeance, and deceits. Fragments of shattered lives.
"You are alone. Whispers wrap around you like silk, trapping you in their threads. You are alone. You are not alone. Voices linger. Memory coalesces. Theirs. Yours. They flicker and burn. They wither and choke."
The story follows a spirit with no memories awakening after possessing a suit of armor which feels familiar. Navigating dark halls of a castle, remembrances will return to shed light over a forgotten life. But the light might be only metaphorical, as it seems that the only things awaiting to be unveiled are shades of sorrow: sadness, fear, grief, loneliness, jealousy, and more.
"I ask the spirits now: whom have I offended, what great being have I challenged, that my life's course is charted only through misery?"
A visual novel with some small graphic adventure mechanics, which excels in atmosphere thanks to its poetic language, its visual arts, and its outstandingly synergetic soundtracks. Whereas the choices are not too consequential story-wise, they are capable of adding supplementary layers to the atmosphere, also due to seeing certain desirable option being fatally locked.
"Death has dipped his brush and soaken his palette to present the scene before you."
The whole experience is well-paced, and it flows magnificently delivering all the needed information without breaking its mood nor losing itself in endless dialogues or descriptions. Additionally, it has a well-made glossary for both elements that have been discovered during the story and contextual terminology (such as the name of armor parts).
"As I get older, I often think about you both, Mother and Father. I think about my life, and where I want to go, and how bleak my chances are."
One thing that it might need though is some trigger warnings for those who may need them, as it touches upon some pretty dark topics, and some scenes and drawings are quite eerie and unsettling.
"I hope that I can end my confession here. I hope I will not live long enough to lengthen the list of my mistakes."
Gorgeous art, beautiful music, and an intriguing story full of melancholy and grief. The way the story unfolds is captivating and had me in a vice grip for its entirety. Great game, I highly recommend! (I played this on another platform so ignore my game time)
Absolutely beautiful story. The writing is magnificent, and it constantly surprised me. The art is stunning, and the gameplay is straightforward but rewarding. I can't believe this isn't more popular!!
Idk how to write a review, but if you like being sad and maybe crying too then this is the game for you.
Beautifully drawn and written
Started the game in the evening and ended accidentally at around 4 in the morning because I wanted to see where my decisions would lead. This game is a great callback to classic textadventures and at the same time tells an incredibly moving story that even moves an old rock like me. This story and adventure will stay with me. From its first mystery to its ultimate conclusion this was a truly unique experience.
What a gorgeously illustrated and written visual novel on perspective. I almost feel entirely redundant in repeating its steam store page words of "atmospheric", "gothic", and "pensive", but that's precisely what it was. The setting and characters are few, but through repetition in interaction with scenes, items, environments (which usually bothers me, but not here, because the pull to find truth in the mystery is so strong), an intimacy to plot and character development can unfold in a such way which strengthens the VN's themes. I kept clicking on objects to make sure I exhausted all relevant information! I'll be looking out for anything else made by ENDYSIS. It's a gem!
