Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0/day in the week to Aug 29 → 0/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

The Imperial Capital Burns is the prequel to a spin-off of a sequel, and yet it could be the most easily digestible introduction to Muv-Luv as a franchise. It introduces the basic premise of the alien invasion and recaps the alternate course human history took as a result, then moves on to a story showing the training of mech pilots with all the slice-of-life stuff needed to form bonds with the characters and finally concludes with the kind of sci-fi horror action that the series is famous for. There's a scene here when the protagonist has to move through an active combat zone without her mech, armed with just ordinary firearms, a master-class in horror and almost impossible to imagine happening based off of the tone in the earlier parts of the story. This dual nature is one of Muv-Luv's many strengths: it can be just as compelling when depicting a group of friends hunting a specific brand of ice cream at a convenience store as with high-stakes warfare. The Imperial Capital Burns also features some of the highest production values you'll ever see in a visual novel, with seemingly unimportant details, like visual effects made for falling cherry blossoms, that serve to give everything a more cinematic feel. The action is beautiful.
The Imperial Capital Burns - Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse is a tightly focused, emotionally charged visual novel that serves as both a narrative prologue and a character study within the broader Muv-Luv universe. Developed by aNCHOR Inc. in collaboration with fuzz Inc. and published by aNCHOR Inc., the game is less concerned with branching gameplay systems or mechanical complexity and far more invested in depicting a pivotal moment in the franchise’s timeline. It aims to contextualize later events by showing how ideals, rivalries, and trauma are forged under the pressure of impending catastrophe. The story is set in late-1990s Japan, before the full collapse of stability caused by the alien BETA invasion, and follows Takamura Yui during her early days as a Tactical Surface Fighter cadet. At first, the narrative leans into relatively grounded themes: ambition, competition, pride, and the social friction of elite military training. Yui is portrayed as earnest and driven, yet emotionally rigid, and much of the early portion of the story revolves around her clashing with more naturally gifted peers, particularly Yamashiro Kazusa. These interpersonal dynamics are not filler; they establish emotional fault lines that later events will violently exploit. As the story progresses, the tone gradually darkens, transitioning from academy life into a grim portrayal of war’s sudden intrusion into the everyday. The BETA invasion of the Japanese mainland is not treated as a distant or abstract threat but as an abrupt, overwhelming force that shatters assumptions about preparedness and honor. When the Imperial Capital itself becomes a battlefield, the narrative pivots sharply, replacing youthful confidence with fear, chaos, and irreversible loss. This escalation is one of the game’s strongest elements, as it mirrors the emotional whiplash experienced by the characters themselves. Character writing is the clear centerpiece. Rather than spreading attention across a large cast, the story focuses intently on a small group, allowing relationships to develop with nuance and emotional weight. Yui’s internal struggles—her pride, guilt, and eventual disillusionment—are explored in detail, making her transformation feel earned rather than symbolic. Supporting characters are not simply casualties or archetypes; they are given moments of humanity that make their fates resonate. For long-time fans, this depth adds retroactive significance to events and attitudes seen later in Total Eclipse. World-building is woven directly into the narrative rather than delivered through detached exposition. Political tensions, military doctrine, and TSF deployment are introduced organically through dialogue and situational context. While the game does assume some familiarity with the Muv-Luv setting, it remains readable for newcomers willing to accept unanswered questions in favor of emotional immersion. Technical jargon and lore details enhance authenticity without overwhelming the core story, striking a balance between accessibility and franchise depth. Structurally, the visual novel is relatively linear, with limited branching compared to other entries in the genre. This is a deliberate choice that reinforces its role as a canonical prequel rather than a choice-driven narrative experiment. The experience is concise by visual novel standards, but the pacing is purposeful, ensuring that no major emotional beat feels rushed or underdeveloped. Its shorter length works in its favor, keeping the narrative tightly focused on its central tragedy. Presentation adheres to traditional visual novel conventions, relying on character sprites, background art, and text rather than animation-heavy spectacle. While the visuals are not flashy, they are expressive, and the artwork effectively conveys shifts in tone—from routine training scenes to desperate urban warfare. Music and sound design play a subtle but important role, reinforcing emotional beats without overpowering the writing. The overall production prioritizes atmosphere and clarity over novelty. Community reception reflects strong appreciation, particularly among fans of the franchise and narrative-driven games. Players frequently praise the emotional impact, character development, and its effectiveness as a companion piece to Total Eclipse. Criticism tends to focus on its relatively short runtime and limited interactivity, especially for players expecting a standalone epic rather than a story supplement. These concerns are valid but largely depend on expectations rather than execution. Ultimately, The Imperial Capital Burns - Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse succeeds as a focused narrative experience that deepens the emotional and thematic foundation of the Muv-Luv universe. It does not attempt to reinvent the visual novel format, nor does it dilute its impact with unnecessary mechanics. Instead, it delivers a somber, character-driven account of how ideals are tested—and often destroyed—by the reality of war. For fans of the series and readers who value emotionally grounded science fiction, it stands as a powerful and memorable chapter that gives lasting context to the conflicts that follow. Rating: 8/10
the only thing that burned was my patience
Took me about 9 hours finishing this game. And it was amazing! If you love Muv-Luv you have to go through this! And it´t ten times better with with a more extensive story than the anime.
