About

Open the notebook and explore seemingly ordinary yet mysterious incidents together with two girls!

Watsonia, a student in Grade 5, Class B at Seashell Elementary School, buys a notebook at a stationery store. At the time, she has no idea what she wants to write in it—she simply finds the cover cute and decides to buy it. This notebook becomes the starting point that brings Watsonia and her classmate Holmlyn together as a team of two, investigating and deducing unusual incidents hidden within daily school life.

To others, these incidents may seem like something trivial caused by children. But for Holmlyn and Watsonia, each one of them is a difficult “case” .
As the mysteries unfold one by one, a larger picture of life in school gradually emerges.With Holmlyn, who is a detailed-oriented and action-driven person, and Watsonia acting as her “assistant” who carefully records every clue, the two work together to uncover the truth behind each case. Along the way, classmates, teachers, and students from other grades all make their appearances, forming a fair-play mystery story set within the school.
As the player, you will collect clues, conduct investigations, think things through, and make correct deductions alongside them. Watsonia records all clues in her notebook—if you ever feel lost, try opening it and taking another look.

The Grade 5B Case Files, developed by 狸老师工作室 (Teacher Li Studio) and published by Eternal Dream, is a refreshing take on the detective adventure genre that exchanges high-stakes crimes for the everyday mysteries of elementary school life. Rather than building suspense around dangerous villains or supernatural occurrences, the game invites players into a charming world where missing items, unusual classroom incidents, and curious misunderstandings become engaging cases to unravel. This unique premise gives the adventure an inviting atmosphere, proving that compelling mysteries can emerge from ordinary situations when viewed through the eyes of imaginative children. The story centers on Watsen, an energetic fifth-grade student who purchases a notebook on a whim, only to discover that it becomes the perfect tool for documenting investigations. Alongside her quiet but exceptionally observant classmate Homu, she begins solving the strange events that unfold around Grade 5-B. Their partnership forms the emotional heart of the experience, with Watsen's enthusiasm balancing Homu's careful reasoning. As they work through each investigation, players gradually become familiar with the personalities of classmates, teachers, and other students, allowing the school to feel like a living community instead of a simple backdrop. The individual mysteries are enjoyable on their own, but together they slowly reveal a broader narrative that encourages players to keep exploring. Gameplay focuses on exploration, observation, and logical deduction instead of action or reflex-based challenges. Players inspect classrooms and school grounds, collect clues, speak with different characters, and organize information inside Watsen's notebook before drawing conclusions. The investigations are designed to reward attention to detail rather than brute-force puzzle solving, making the experience approachable while still requiring thoughtful analysis. The notebook mechanic also serves as an effective way to review evidence and revisit previous discoveries, ensuring that every clue has a meaningful place in the investigative process. The presentation complements the game's lighthearted tone exceptionally well. Its colorful pixel art captures the warmth and nostalgia of childhood, bringing classrooms, hallways, and playgrounds to life with expressive character designs and inviting environments. The visual style favors charm over technical complexity, creating a memorable aesthetic that perfectly matches the game's slice-of-life setting. Combined with a pleasant soundtrack and subtle sound design, the overall atmosphere feels comforting and immersive, encouraging players to slow down and enjoy the simple moments between each mystery. One of the game's strongest qualities is its dedication to portraying everyday life with sincerity. Instead of relying on dramatic twists to maintain interest, it succeeds through believable relationships, relatable situations, and carefully paced storytelling. The mysteries themselves may seem modest compared to traditional detective adventures, but they effectively encourage curiosity, empathy, and critical thinking. Players who appreciate narrative-driven experiences will likely enjoy uncovering not only the solutions to each case but also the personalities and friendships that develop throughout the journey. The planned chapter-based structure also leaves room for the story to grow over time, giving the impression that this is only the beginning of a much larger series. While those expecting intense suspense or highly complex detective mechanics may find the relaxed pacing too gentle, the game never attempts to be something it is not. Its appeal lies in its wholesome storytelling, memorable protagonists, and heartfelt portrayal of childhood curiosity. By embracing a smaller scale and focusing on meaningful character interactions, The Grade 5B Case Files offers a detective adventure that feels both distinctive and genuinely charming. It stands as a promising introduction to what could become an enjoyable episodic franchise for fans of narrative mysteries and slice-of-life adventures. Rating: 8/10

This is more of a mixed review. I was expecting this game to be more focused on investigation and exploring the classroom itself but its almost literally just a wholesome but basic visual novel. The art is nice, the story is sweet and the translation is okay, but unless you want a slow slice of life story about mysteries that you don't really solve but just pay attention to and follow along, its not particularly 'fun' or engaging. Again the premise of small time 'mysteries' is a fantastic concept. This just feels very rudimentary. Basic basic stuff. Pass from me, but take with a grain of salt
