Very gay and made me cry
Super cute and fun to play, specially when doing combos! The plot is simple and kinda funny sometimes and the gameplay is well managed even though I've got some crashes. Perfect for a lazy afternoon with a Galician shopaholic man in Discord!
Cute game. Purely arcade. No rpg or roguelike elements. Has a unique movement and gameplay mechanic. And if you enjoy the gameplay, it has speed running capabilities. The story is cute too. LBGTQ+ characters.

The Gardner and the Wild Vines is a fairy tale for the 21st century. It’s a refreshingly subversive take on the typical Rapunzel plot, where you play as a gay gardener climbing towers to rescue a prince. Throw in an evil Magician who spirits the prince away, a cynical knight, and a pirate, and you have a story which twists and turns more than the vines that wrap themselves around the towers of the game. The game has a wonderful art-style, a sort of 2.5D perspective shifting chunky pixel-aesthetic reminiscent of mid-to-late 90s PS1 and N64 games. There are 21 towers to climb, across three worlds. Equipped with a pair of shears, your lovestruck gardener is tasked with deadheading flowers growing on each tower. With each cut you are propelled upwards, at the same time new vines sprout, along with leaves and more flowers. Leaves act as platforms but can also be bounced on to jump high in the air and climb further up the tower. As you progress through the game new mechanics are introduced, and towers become bigger, and more intricately designed. The Gardner and the Wild Vines is a relatively short game, clocking in at about 3-4 hrs, but there are extra challenges and collectables to add replay value. With a great story, really likeable characters, and satisfying platform mechanics, this is an indie gem definitely worth checking out.

It's an okay game but I wouldn't recommend it. The vine growth feels very arbitrary; the position of a leaf after cutting a flower is difficult to predict, often only happening after falling below it, and the direction the character moves seems arbitrary. The combo mechanic feels out of place and encourages you to spend time cutting flowers rather than progressing the level even though there is no point in doing more than the bare minimum. I was ready to be done with it after 2.5 hours but it just kept going. Half way through the second area I started wishing there were fewer towers, or some were shorter than others, but they remained consistently longer and longer even when starting a new area. The only reason I pushed forward to completing the game was for the tiny snippets of dialog at the beginning of the next tower and at the end of the last tower of an area. I'm not inclined to replay for the achievements or challenges.
Blown away by such a refreshing gameplay and story combo! From a game jam idea, Gardener has been skillfully executed to hold it's own as a top tier 2.5-D platformer. I can't get enough of the pixel art! I was forced to give a chef's kiss whenever new mechanics and levels were introduced. This game is truly a peaceful love story that I can spend hours in... And I will once I unlock all of the challenges!
Hmm. Yes, its worth ten dollars. I personally got bored of the gimmick as a lot of the levels look the same, but it doesn't detract from the game a supporting queer stuff is good. I would say that all the "levels" in a game like binding of Issac look the same too, but that games really popular. This just isn't for me, ill play some more of it still.
A pretty short but sweet game, it's mechanically pretty unique, nothing complex but still interesting enough to never get tiring, and the game doesn't overstay it's welcome. The main thing that interested me with this game was it featuring a gay male protagonist, which is shockingly rare, there's hardly any that I've found, and I've been looking. So that was refreshing, and the story is pretty cute and wholesome, a bit predictable but I was still invested in the characters. I only wish we got more time with the Gardener and the Prince, but what we got was nice, and they kiss at the end so I can't complain.
So mechanically rich and interesting, but really simple to understand and master. Also has a great, lovely story that just makes a great platformer even stronger. Heavily recommned.
