I have loved this game since the beta version was released, and I have been playing it ever since. It boasts stellar gameplay, art direction, world-building, music, and sound design. These aspects continually improve over time, which is why I don't mind the monetization. However, I can't recommend this game without reservation because one thing is missing: balance. In an earlier developer talk this year, my understanding is that the team described deliberately avoiding a data-driven approach in favor of "vibe balancing" and feedback from a small group of playtesters. Whatever the reasoning, the result is that the current balance is poor, and the team takes a long time to react to problems, sometimes not at all. This shows most clearly in how the game has evolved over the past year. It's become increasingly fast-paced and intense, to the point that even in the early stages, the focus is on how quickly one player can one-shot another in a very limited time frame. This eliminates any real opportunity for build variety. I wish the pace could be slowed down and stabilized. Recommended if you can tolerate ongoing balance chaos in exchange for excellent production values, hold off if that's a dealbreaker for you.
