Super fun old school RPG. Still have snap, mystery, and the joy of discovery. Most of the difficulty curve is at the start, but great fun for the money. (And you're supporting a developer that does right by it's customers and fans!)
i know is a classic but damn is boring and the grind is real.

I come from the 70s and 80s. I played this game on C64. This remake gives you the greatness of the game with updated graphics that still feel old-school. I never actually finished the 80s version. I will finish this version. I like the easy-click map of the town and the convenient HUD. . So far, I have only one complaint: I wish I could control the combat speed better. You can make it go from too slow to a touch too fast, no in-between, or you can make it go really fast. I find the scrolling sentences that describe the attacks, misses, and HP loss go by too fast. They should have color coding at least! I want to see "red" and know that one of my warriors got hurt, and I want to see, for example, a red "10/25" to show that a character is hurting. Unharmed characters will remain in black font. Also, I want different color coding to help me differentiate between monster attacks. For instance, if I see a green line of text, I know I'm attacking. If I see red, I know the monster is attacking. Otherwise, I'm happy with this game. I give it 4/5 stars.
Major throw-back. It's a lot of fun, but mother of all that's holy some of the riddles are SOOoooo obscure! Like virtually impossible. Instead of just looking up spoilers (which I did have to do for a few of the most obtuse and obscure riddles), I mostly just talked to an AI bot as I played. First, tell it you don't want spoilers, then tell it to avoid being too verbose. Then as you play, give it any flavour text you encounter so that you can use it like a logbook that talks back to you. Also, in this Remaster, note that there is an automap AND a really good interactive journal that may not be obvious (hit the button to the upper-right of the graphics window and near the bottom is the Journal map that keeps track of what you've seen). Anyway, by telling your AI friend everything you encounter (words, clues, activities, and so on), it can help steer you to the next thing you need to do, or summarize a series of clues for you so that you can make a little more sense of the unreal riddles. Anyway, I enjoyed it immensely and I am currently playing through BT3 with the characters I built starting way back in BT1. I am playing it on PopOS and I didn't even notice whether or not I am using Proton for it. It's super stable and allows me to jump in and out of the game perfectly smoothly.
I enjoy exploring world but interface is a bit tricky for me.
The best Dnd style RPG original game from 1985. Of note it has a complicated and fun magic user system ahead of its time allowing your character to master spells in four classes: conjurer, magician, sorcerer and wizard. Further adventures continue in Bard's Tale 2&3.
Played for a while on game pass before buying it here. I have no nostalgia for this as I first played it this year but I think its a great game and I prefer this old style of gaming. Its not interactive content like some modern rpgs its strictly speaking a game and you need to learn its mechanics.( which is not that hard tbh).
A fun flashback to one of the first RPGs. It has gotten easier than it was originally when saving could only happen at the guild and if your team died it died. But still a fun journey back in time. Not sure how younger people will feel.
This is a game i've 100% on xbox one and currently comming back to. So with that i highly recommend the game! The only issue is that you'll notice that while getting the Nemesis trophy it'll pop up multiple times before you actually get it. Oddly you have to win a few battles in a dungeon to get it; but only those last 5.
