About
The soft-ware initially presents information about SYMPTOMS OF INFECTION.
This presentation is crucial to approach the initial phase of DIAGNOSIS, TESTING and DISPOSITION:
During DIAGNOSIS,
Examine the patient visually
Interview them
Run tests
During TESTING,
Allow the LAM-ORB Mainframe to process tests
Initially users of the soft-ware will be of low-priority to the Mainframe
You may request to EXPEDITE processing to the Mainframe, every click counts
During DISPOSITION,
Make sure you identify all SYMPTOMS OF INFECTION
Make sure you indicate the finding of infectious patterns or pathogens in the tests
ATTENTION: Some patients may present comorbidities or symptoms that not necessesarily represent an underlying disease.
Every and all infected patients, no matter the nature of their infection, must be held in the ISOLATION WARD for further evaluation and treatment.
While common infections like bacterial ones are widely understood and well-know across both the medical field and the world population, some infectious pathogens and diseases remain unknown.
And while the discovery of new pathogens and diseases is by itself of major relevance to public healthcare; a small fraction of unknown, sometimes horrifying, infectious pathogens and diseases are studied in the background by both public and private institutions like LAM-ORB.
When the ISOLATION WARD reaches full capacity, a DISINFECTION PROCEDURE is scheduled. Full information of the disease and treatment indications are given, and the procedure is performed on the patient.
The soft-ware tries to emulate as close as possible the experience, technology, and findings of the LAM-ORB organization's research during the 1970s. Rumors about the reason of the sudden disappearance of the organization include human experimentation, chimeric pathogen development, and secret medical research.

This game has the potential to be an absolute masterpiece. I have always been a fan of medical simulations and psychological horror, SoI truly does not disappoint. The procedures and gameplay are accurate, and the retro style combined with the chippy audio truly sells the nostalgic yet eerie feeling. The mystery behind the facility, its history, and its motives make me incredibly excited for the devs to push new updates! Even though the game is in early access with a new update right around the corner, there are 2 grievances I noticed; * The game is very scripted. Any wrong choices you make won’t let you progress. Many of the things you interact with like the tests, diagnostics, and other aspects just gave you the information you needed. The game felt almost episodic rather than simulated, and left out most senses of choice. * The story is incredibly vague. I understand that LAM-ORB and the ORB franchise revolves around mystery and most of ORB’s other content connects, but some elements left me very confused (primarily the facility, some of the characters, and the diseases). I really do feel like letting the devs take some time and take good feedback will allow this game to become a hit. It’s definitely good now, but it’s on track to be great!
casually stumbling across this one night was such an experience

It's an interesting concept for sure. Definitely appreciate its ability to inspire an unnerving tone. Only thing I would ask developers to change is adding clarification on the cellular treatment minigame. Everything up until then is pretty direct, yet the cellular treatment is incredibly vague and I have failed it multiple times resulting in what I take is either an ending, demo hard-stop, or game over. Having to repeat the game time after time to retry it since there's no save checkpoints, and now it feels like more of a chore than a good experience.
Thrilling game. Its amazing what one can create with 3MB The pixelart is satisfying tested for a few minutes then quit to not spoil the game DEV please add new features asap so we can fully enjoy it .
I Iove the presentation and atmosphere. Creepy as hell. Looks like diagnostic tools and training programs Blair would have used in The Thing. I'm a physician and this has an eerie level of realism to it as well. You don't really make decisions or deviate from what's being presented until later in the game, but presentation is everything here. It will bug you, and you will be thinking about it at night. If you go on the developer's website this appears to be part of some kind of ARG or multimedia art project. The team is working on another game called "The Infirmary" which looks equally bugged out. I'm looking forward to trying that.
when i discovered this, it was through a youtube playthrough and it was so intriguing i had to get it for myself. as i find myself infatuated with Tom Toe and why he wanted to help Lucy, i also went down an ORB rabbit hole. Boy was my research thorough AND obscure at the same time. i LOVE the mystery in the story, the ability to make choice and “wrongfully diagnose” patients may take away the “♥♥♥♥ around and find out” mentality, but maybe that will be implemented later as endings? and THEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT INFIRMARY ON ITCHIO!!!! have yet to play it but still intrigued by the universe alone! im curious as how one goes about to beta test just for fun? even with a demo out and expecting the update, i still find myself replaying the game just to see if i can find more HIDDEN scenarios that weren’t in my first few runs! i was even curious about what the notes in the backround were and found there ARE pathways to more patients but not knowing ALL information about it makes the mystery MORE FUN to uncover! i cant stop yapping about it to my friends, and one is considering buying it too! coming from someone who loves playing plague inc and watches the pitt on the side, this itches that scratch, maybe even more than that. it may be a short play through right now but i have high hopes for upcoming researches and cant wait to get my hands on the new softwares! happy diagnosing!
cool game and graphics, but way too short. beat the whole game in 17 minutes. Devs need to add way more infections ans symtoms and make it infinate random generated patinces so you never run out becuase diognosing them is fun
looks great!
Currently this game is in Early Access, so I will update it later once the full game is finished. Symptoms of Infection may look like a twisted take on Life & Death from Software Toolworks (the same people behind those Mario edutainment games), but it's a much more darker, horrific experience. You interview patients, take samples and slowly learn that there is something horribly wrong here. I don't mean just the infections, but what is going on in this hospital. This game creates more questions than answers, and this is my kind of horror! The moment you open the game you're just dropped in a series of slides showing you the symptoms and you're blasted with creepy, broken synths. It really set up the tone perfectly for a vibe that this is training software that is lost to time over 40 years ago, and now that it was found, it's a regrettable discovery. There's one complaint I have aside from the price being a bit high for the length. For whatever reason, the game does not create a save file when it's supposed to, but it seems I'm the only person who reported the problem. It's not a big deal as the game is currently short, but I hope it gets fixed before it's finished. If you enjoy this game or the atmosphere, check out THE INFIRMARY. It's currently not on Steam, but it's also in Early Access and takes place in the same universe as SoI. Funding these games would help a lot. By the way, the fact that these games are made in a custom engine that's only a few megabytes really shows the dedication and effort. They nailed on making these feel like old software back in the early PC days when you play titles on your IBM (or MS-DOS), TI-99/4A or the Spectrum, but this gives more of a TI-99/4A vibe with the same amount of sound channels and synths. Please fund these games. They're cooking up something special here.
This game builds great atmosphere. Definitely something I did not expect from such a short and cheap game. Can recommend. Peak game.
