"Symphony of Souls" is a so/so first person platformer from LaSalle College, Vancouver. This low poly platformer has you swinging around like a Greek mythological figure (not known for swinging around) though a short narrative experience. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 9 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This is a "maybe" experience... if you have a lot of free time on your hands and nothing else to do, why not? But for the purposes of a review, this isn't something I can say everyone must try. It's not quite there. Valve doesn't give us a "maybe" option in reviews, but if they did, that's what I'd choose for this.

"Curti bastante o que foi mostrado nessa demo, um jogo bem frenético com bastante parkour e um rock foda de fundo, acho que é rock Desculpe se errei. as músicas com o parkour junto com as mecânicas, são interessantes. Espero ansiosamente pelo jogo completo e seria legal se os devs adicionassem legendas em português BR."
For a student project as stated in the credits, this was a really good attempt. Normally I'm not a fan of first person platformers let alone rhythm based ones mainly due to the camera controls not being the best and the landing presenting an issue. This is also the case here although after a few attempts and avoiding obstacles where due to the hit detection your character can get stuck, the gameplay pulls through. The mythical setting and the tracks greatly contributed to my positive experience and there's not much to say about the story since there is one but it acts as a way of connecting the levels. Hopefully in the future we'll get a more fleshed out version of this game with the third level being added or a completely new experience with what was learned here. Good job.
Short and sweet
Didn't expect this to be a speed run type game.. thought there would be more story besides... adam and eve type beat? not even sure. Its fun just not what I expected or was looking for at the moment. Not a bad game but I think the game should be advertised differently
