Classic 2D jump'n'run sidescroller featuring Tux the penguin. Run and jump through multiple worlds, fighting off enemies by jumping on them, bumping them from below or tossing objects at them, grabbing power-ups and other stuff on the way.

this game summoned tux at my front door before i got jumped by a penguin for using windows, and thats how i became a arch linux femboy
SuperTux is a game that has always been very close to me ever since I first played it in the mid-2000s, I was always a huge fan of its simple gameplay and endless possibilities with the level editor, the real meat and potatoes of the game. However, with the release of Milestone 2 and further versions, my interest lessened until I eventually stopped caring. The release of v0.7.0 caught my interest however. The newest release of SuperTux offers an amazing and consistent new art direction, beautiful animations and gameplay elements that add a lot of layers that I never thought would be possible in a game like this. Great music too, even though I miss the original soundtrack, I understand that it must've felt too archaic for the fresh new look. However, v0.7.0 is not a faithful remake of the original, it certainly caters more towards people who are discovering SuperTux for the first time, purists like me will only be impressed by the audiovisual department while finding the "remade" classic levels unrecognizable and jarring. Some of these levels that were short and pleasant in the original became tedious Metroidvania dungeons. The levels are also actively annoying to 100% (coins, secrets, target time), with all collectibles resetting after dying, things are just not fun. Luckily, it's not mandatory, but still. The game is also pretty unpolished. Some softlocks here and there (A Maze in the Sky), plenty of weird out of place tiles in the level's architecture, and the game froze on me once while skipping a cutscene (Nolok's Party Pit). Anyway, I think this game might be alright for newcomers but old-time fans like me, a v0.1.3 stan, will find it unnecessarily convoluted and just not fun to breeze through. I still think v0.7.0 is the best thing to happen to this game since Milestone 2 but it just doesn't come close.
this is the "remake" version that's essentially inferior to the much more nostalgic and overall better 0.6.3 version that's not available on steam. the biggest issue i have with this version is the soundtrack since they turned the really banger 8 bit soundfont into some generic platformer music. it's still a really good game but i'd much recommend you play the 0.6.3 version if you can.
This was my favorite game as a child and its so nostalgic and great to know they keep updating it on steam
