It's not a terrible game, but it's aged poorly compared to the sequels. The lack of analogue control for steering, accelerating and braking makes the game feel cumbersome, and the menu is less clear than it is in the 2nd game (especially in how it only shows one car at a time instead of showing a full list of the manufacturer's cars). If you're interested in this game, buy Super Woden GP 2 and Super Woden: Rally Edge instead because they're both far superior games. The only reason why you'd get this one is if you're getting it as part of a bundle and/or want to support the dev by giving them a few extra dollars (which is not a bad idea btw).
Potentially Good Game Marred With Glaring Deal-Breakers. Not Recommended 5/10

I really wanted to like this game. Unfortunately, it all comes down to the game just not being fun. The game certainly looks good, the Eurobeat soundtrack is excellent and the tracks themselves are good enough. However, a racing game lives or dies by it's ability to evoke the sense of speed and good driving feel; both of which Super Woden GP is lacking. You don't feel like you're racing, and the driving physics is not great (not terrible but not good). You can compare Super Woden GP with BrownMonster's Rush Rally Origin and the latter is nails it. Both are top-down isometric racing game but Rush Rally Origin feels like you're racing and it feels great to drive. Rush Rally Origin implement a top-down chase camera view which GREATLY improves the driving feel. As much as isometric view is great nostalgia, driving this way is awkward and not pleasant in 2026. Super Woden GP (at least this iteration) falls short of these critical things so it unfortunately fails as a racing game to me. You can still play this game but you'd have to put up with quite a bit to have fun. Not recommended 5/10

Positives
- Good graphics - Great Eurobeat Soundtrack
Negatives
- Lacking sense of speed - Not good enough driving feel - Isometric view is outdated with no behind-the-car chase camera - AI opponents suck. - Some Quality of Life features missing (you can't repeat the race after you finish it rather, you have to start from the map selection which is awfully tedious and time-wasting).

after 40 hours and a full 100% of the game, skip this one and play GP2 and Rally Edge instead. the positive is that the driving and game feel is awesome, i hadn't played an indie racer before this one and the driving feel was good enough that i was willing to buy the other two games on the spot, its predictable, fun, and flowy. unfortunately, this amazing foundation is held back by several things. first and foremost, the AI in this game is garbage, like occasionally unplayable levels of bad. they have odd breakpoints, don't know where you are in corners or on straights, and will sometimes just run into you while you are both going down a straight for the fun of it. it can take some courses that are fun to time trial and make it a miserable slog to play through. Second, the achievements for the game are pretty bad, especially the ones added in the patch. Mandating that people obtain a specific W/L ratio if they want the achievement means that you have to basically win every race you can, causing reset spam if you get a bad start and messing with the economy as the money that is gotten while losing and learning the tracks is reset away. beating the final championship on hard would be fine except for the fact that as stated before the AI can make a fun track an abhorrent experience to try and get ahead of them on, looking at you mattra hill long. lastly, it is a 20-25 hour SLOG to grind the 5000km achievement, and that is if you are running the same track over and over again in the fastest car. im not sure why it was ever added other than to pad play time for hunters. Finally, I have been having weird performance issues the whole time while playing this game. Heavy stuttering on startup that went away after a second turned into heavy stuttering that only went away when forcing windowed mode, to finally small stutters that wont go away no matter what i do as i grind out the last 250km. it sucks to leave a negative review on a game that has as good gameplay as this one, but the flaws drag it down far too much for me.
Excellent pastiche of 90s game design, using the still-brilliant career mode of Gran Turismo. Car physics feel good, tracks are fun once learned, and it captures the magic of starting in hatchbacks and ending in GT cars.
